1965 GMC C1000 Shortbed Small Window Pickup w/original paint and 98000 original miles.

Original paint with great patina. No rust straight and dry California truck.

This truck was manufactured and sold in California and was owned by the same owner in Sonora, CA from 1965 to 2012 when he was simply too old to drive it. The truck never left Sonora until I bought it. As a matter of fact it was sold by the Sonora GMC dealership and we will include the original license plate frame, protecto plate, and service manual. Truck was a plain jane no option 230ci/3 speed.

Powertrain (now):

383CI Small Block Chevy built w/1995 5.7 4bolt 1 piece rear main truck engine block and 400ci crankshaft. Engine runs the 1995 swirl port heads, Edelbrock Aluminum Air Gap intake, Edelbrock Peformer Carb, HEI Ignition, aluminum water pump, and is dressed up with Newstalgia Fauxmobile Rocket valve covers and air cleaner and Speeway Rams Horn headers.

Cooling is handled by an aluminum radiator w/electric fan.

Dual exhaust with quiet turbo mufflers.

This engine was not built for this truck but I had to put it in there. It will smoke the tires right off the truck if you floor it.

700r4 Automatic OD transmission built by Bowtie Overdrives with their kickdown linkage, TV Cable, and valving. All transmission tuning was done by Bowtie and the trans shifts great. This trans was meant for another project but ended up going in this truck. Truck cruises at 70 or 80 but is capable of much more.

Rear Axle and Differential are out of a 1972 C10 and have 3.73 axle ratio and 5 on 5 lug pattern.

Brakes and Chassis:

Truck was professionally lowered by Jimenez Brothers Customs (JBC) of Chop Cut Rebuild and Rod & Custom fame. Drop spindles and springs were used in front and the truck was converted to power disk brakes. Front lug pattern is 5 on 5 to match the rear. Truck was converted to power steering and a GM power brake booster and master cylinder w/proportioning valve were installed.

The rear end was treated to an axle flip kit, shackles, and a mild C-notch (bed is not cut). Lowered high performance shocks were installed front and rear. The E-Brake is not hooked up yet but the parts are included in a box.

Sway bars were added front and rear as well. Basically this truck steers, corners, and stops(and shifts) like a late model truck.

Dropped cross members were powder coated and installed during the chassis modifications.

Paint and Body:

As you can see we kept the exterior plain and just buffed the original paint to get the tree sap off. There is no rust through anywhere on the truck except 2 erasure head sized holes in the right front floor board. The rust was sanded and treated. Truck is completely dry.

All glass is good and comes with all new rubber for glass, doors, windows, body, tailgate bumpers, door handles and mirrors (all new rubber is still in boxes). The old stuff works but we wanted new.

New bed wood and rails were installed. The wood is stained and sealed and the rails were powder coated.

Original hood was louvered and fits the look of the truck.

Interior and Electrical:

Seat is original and covered in black velour. We put a couple of “Mexican” blankets over it because they fit the look of the truck.

A new carpet kit (black) is included as are new stainless door sills.

Pinstripes were added to the interior and can be seen on the glove box and ash tray.

All lights and electrical work except the original GMC radio. Heater and defroster work too (with no leaks) but the heater hoses were not reconnected after the engine swap.

Wheels and Tires:

Stock Chevy Steelies in 5 on 5 were stripped and powder coated satin black. Chevelle caps with GMC logos were installed. Tires are 205/75r15 white walls and have about 1000 miles on them now.

A set of aluminum drag lite wheels with radials are included if that’s your thing. They’re free.

Phil is selling the truck locally. Feel free to call him with any questions 951-905-2923

I built this truck for me with plans on keeping it for ever. No short cuts were taken but wife and kid got in the way and as you know things change. I passed it on to Phil who put the bed wood in etc. Phil has a bunch of other high end projects and is looking to send the GMC down the road.

The only things left to do is install the carpet and new rubber kits (included) and I would install A/C (everything else is new or replaced).

The truck was built with a SPAL electric fan. It has a thermo switch but Phil has it running direct. I personally think it sounds like a shop vac running at high speed and takes away from the rumble of the truck. I'm throwing in a brand new flex fan (still in the box). You can swap out the fan if the electric one annoys you as well.

Truck runs drives and stops great. Suspension is low but has been modified to allow pretty good travel and new low profile bump stops were installed. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it on long trips (except for that no A/C thing).

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

Sunday Drive: Taking a gaze into the automotive crystal ball

Sun, Oct 22 2017

Mankind has long been fascinated by the future. So it makes sense that this past week's top stories were all about cars, trucks, and SUVs that won't be hitting the market until the 2019 model year. And right at the top of the list is the Ram 1500. We've come to know Ram as the truck maker that styles its pickups with cues cribbed from big rigs, but that look has slowly evolved over time into something uniquely its own. The next Ram 1500 continues this trend, with a newly refined look that we can't wait to see in person. Up next is the 2019 Chevy Silverado. Pickup trucks have been, continue to be, and will remain the best-selling vehicles in America. And General Motors is a leader in the field, with two distinct offerings with which to entice buyers, one from the bread-and-butter Chevrolet brand and one wearing the slightly more upscale GMC badge. The Chevy looks to get LED lighting elements for 2019, which ought to keep the truck from looking dated when compared to the Ford F-150 and the previously mentioned Ram 1500. From there we move past pickup trucks and into SUVs and sedans. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee looks to get toned down a bit with its next refresh, and the '19 BMW 3 Series continues its slow evolutionary journey at the top of its aspirational sales pedestal. Finally, spy shots give way to official production reveals for the 2019 Audi A7 and Polestar 1. This pair of European luxury cars won't compete with one another – one is a rakish hatchback and the other a sports coupe – any further than for the eyeballs of our readers, but both proved popular enough to merit inclusion in our weekly roundup. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2019 Ram 1500 spotted without the classic crosshairs 2019 Chevy Silverado spied with new LED accents 2019 Jeep Cherokee reveals a much more normal face 2019 BMW 3 Series spy shots reveal production lights, new interior details 2019 Audi A7 revealed: More torque, refined styling Polestar 1 First Look | The 600 horsepower hybrid Scandinavian Green Audi BMW Chevrolet Jeep RAM Volvo Truck Hatchback SUV Future Vehicles Hybrid Luxury Performance Sedan sunday drive polestar 1

Want a V8 on the cheap? Buy a work truck

Thu, Aug 3 2017

In case you didn't notice, V8 cars have gotten pretty expensive. If you want a modern muscle car like the Dodge Challenger R/T, Ford Mustang GT, or Chevy Camaro SS, you'll need between $34,000 and $38,000 for a stripped out example of one. The cheapest of those is the Challenger, and the priciest is the Camaro. These are also the cheapest V8 cars the companies offer. But if you absolutely have to have a V8 for less, there is an option, work trucks. As it turns out, all of the Big Three offer their most basic work trucks with V8s. And because they're so basic, they're pretty affordable, especially when sticking with the standard two-wheel drive. A Ram 1500 Tradesman with a V8 can be had for as little as $29,840, which is a little more than $4,000 less than a Challenger R/T. For a bit more at $30,275, you can have a Chevy Silverado W/T, almost $8,000 less than a Camaro SS. The most expensive is the V8 Ford F-150 starts at a starting price of $30,670, which is a bit over $5,000 less than the Mustang. Of course you'll be in an ultra bare bones vehicle with few comforts, and the price will go up if you add stuff, but we're bargain hunting here, and sacrifices are sometimes necessary. Besides, what you lose in comfort, you gain in loads of cargo space and towing (try to look at the bright side). Also, as a side note, all three trucks are available with optional electronic locking rear differentials. At the discounted price of these trucks, you still get a heaping helping of power. The most potent of the trio is the Ram 1500 Tradesman with 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque generated by a 5.7-liter V8. Compared with the Challenger R/T, the Ram is up by 20 horsepower and they're tied for torque. The value proposition is even more stark between the two vehicles when looking at the price per horsepower. Each pony in the Ram costs $75.54, while the Challenger charges you $90.91. The Challenger is also more expensive per horsepower than its close competitors. The F-150's 5.0-liter V8 is just barely behind the Ram with 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. That's still more power than the Challenger, and it matches the torque of the 2017 Mustang GT. On the down side, it still would be down 20 horsepower on that same 2017 Mustang, and it's behind by 60 horsepower and 20 pound-feet on the new 2018 Mustang GT. The F-150 also just edges out the Mustang in the dollar per horsepower measure.
