1974 Chevy K5 Blazer Partially Restored on 2040-cars

This truck has spent most of it's life as a garage queen/Sunday driver as it gets slowly restored. It is almost 100% restored mechanically, exterior and interior...not so much. Engine + transmission: replaced with a hi-performance 350 small block, has 12,000 miles on it. The engine is built with a 4 bolt main, steel crank, shot peened rods, 9:1 compression pistons, 194 closed chamber 64cc Corvette heads, stage 3 RV cam, stainless steel valves/seats/retainers, high volume oil pump, heads are ported and polished, 8" harmonic degreed balancer, aluminum header gaskets, new engine mounts, with a rebuilt 4-barrel Edelbrock 1406 carburetor sitting on top of it all. 14,000 miles on a rebuilt 4 speed Muncie 465 manual transmission with a 205 transfer case. The following has been recently replaced with new parts: clutch, flywheel, exhaust gaskets, starter, front axle u-joints, front and rear carrier bearings in the transfer case, front inner axle seals, upper and lower ball joints, steering gear box + frame reinforcement, power steering pump and hoses, master brake cylinder, brake booster, clutch bell crank assembly, new 31 gallon gas tank with anti-squeak kit, new sending unit in gas tank, new fuel lines, heater core, HEI ignition, blower motor, brake lines replaced with stainless steel lines, rubber brake lines, calipers, brake cylinders, brake proportioning valve, brake system flushed, transfer case output shaft seal, Auburn posi-trac limited slip carrier assembly + ring/pinion gear + differential bearings installed in rear differential. new rear axles + axle bearings and seals, exhaust replace with dual exhaust system + new mufflers, drive shaft balanced + new u-joints, new tachometer, back glass window regulator, new back glass, door window regulators and glass channels, water pump, new heater control assembly, turn signal switch, Other goodies that are unnecessary but nice to have: Dual front shocks, dual steering stabilizer, electric choke, new body mounts all the way around, new radiator mounts, trailer-to-wing plug to haul u-haul trailers, fuel pressure regulator, electric radiator fan w/fan clutch, 16" black rims, "E" load rated tires, spare tire (not a doughnut), heavy duty leaf springs + overload suspension, secret starter security switch, full set of heavy duty v-bar chains with repair kit and tools, high lift bumper jack w/repair kit. |

Conquest and controversy conclude the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona [spoilers]

For those of you still with us, the first race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) is done, but the discussions about it certainly won't end for a while. Daytona Prototypes claimed the first four overall places, the top spot taken by the No. 5 Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdain and Burt Friselle. The 16th and final caution of the race bunched the field up for an eight-minute sprint to the flag, so the first place getter finished just 1.4 seconds ahead of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Max Angelelli. Third place went to Brian Friselle in the No. 9 Action Express Chevrolet Corvette DP, 20 seconds down. Chevrolet power hasn't taken the overall win since 2003, eleven years later it scores a one-two-three-four. The No. 6 Muscle Milk/Pickett Racing ORECA-Nissan 03 scored fifth place, the top LMP2 finisher.
The Prototype Challenge class win went to the No. 54 CORE Autosport team of Colin Braun, Jon Bennett, Mark Wilkins and James Gue.
Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states
Fri, 26 Sep 2014The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels
Thu, 24 Jan 2013The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.
