This auction is for a 1965 Chevrolet Bel Air.  The car came originally as a 6 cylinder with 3 speed manual transmission.  It is factory Willow Green with Fawn interior.

Included in this auction are parts I have been collecting for years to build this into an extremely accurate, numbers and date correct L78 4-Speed Clone Car.  The parts I have collected for this are the "real deal".  They are not reproduction nor are they re-dated unless they are marked as "New".  The parts that are included with this auction are authentic 1965 L78 parts.  My intention was to be a clone car that was absolutely correct in every way and with all original parts.

Body:
  • This car was built in the 4th week of July 1965
  • The rear quarters both are rusty including the inner wheel housings.  The trunk floor is also rusted through.  That being said the interior floor pans appear to be solid as are the rocker panels.  The roof, doors and hood are all pretty good.  The front bumper, grille and right front fender are damaged.  This car comes with another bumper, grille, and header panel that are better than the ones that are on the car now.  The doors open and shut good and fit good as does the trunk and hood.

Drive Train:
  • This car currently has the original 250 six cylinder and 3 speed column shift transmission.  This car runs and drives like it is.  It is also currently licensed and insured.  The brakes need bled and this is definitely not a daily driver.  It has been sitting for a couple of years.  It will fire right up and you can drive it, but a transport should be arranged rather than to try to drive it home.  It has been sitting.

L78  425HP/396:
  • Block is a standard bore IE code real 425HP 4-speed Impala block (different than Corvette).  It has little ridge and is in extremely good original condition.  Never repaired, no cracks, no sleeves, never machined other than by GM when new.
  • Block was cast in June 1965 and the built stamp is July 16th 1965, TO716IE (about 2 weeks before the car was built!)
  • Cylinder Heads #3856208.  This is a matched set both dated E225 (May 22nd, 1965).  These heads have never been cut, machined, or repaired.  They are the nicest original, matched castings I have ever seen and are exactly the right date and number for this car.
  • Original steel crank.
  • Intake #3866963.  This intake has been professionally restored and is absolutely beautiful.  Correct shine and texture.  Dated 5.20.65.  The plenum has been modified to a double bathtub.  I chose to use this manifold because of the correct date and the fact that the engine will run better with this plenum modification.  The modification looks factory and can't be seen when the carb is on.
  • Aluminum water neck.
  • Water Pump dated G-15-5.  This is a rebuilt original GM.  Nice
  • The distributor is out of a 1967 425HP/427 Impala.  It is the correct cast iron housing for a 1965 L78 car like this one.  There is no date on these, just a tag.  These particular distributors are very rare and hard to find.  Like Corvette but with no Tach Drive.
  • Correct timing cover with tab for 8" balancer and no dowel holes.  This timing cover is for a 1965 only, high horsepower only, big block.  Very rare and hard to find.
  • 8" Balancer with bolt and washer.  New.
  • Correct Oil Pan (Original).
  • Correct dripper type valve covers.  Manual brake configuration. Painted. (Original).
  • Correct dipstick and tube (Original)
  • Cast exhaust manifolds supposedly off of a 1966 425HP/427 Impala.  I believe these may be incorrect both in casting and more obviously the date.
  • Motor Mounts.  New
  • Various NOS engine bolts.  New
  • Correct Holley 780 Vacuum Secondary Carburetor.  #3869933EF, LIST-3130, 563 (third week of June, 1965).  This is in very nice, unrestored, original condition.  Also has a set of correct original fuel lines with correct junction block and correct brackets.  Also comes with a nice set of reproduction lines and junction block.
  • Correct oil filter canister. (Original)
  • Original L78 Solid Lifter Camshaft.  Used.  I kept it for reference.
  • Original dual snorkel air cleaner.  This air cleaner base came on 425HP Impala/Belair/Biscayne and Z16 Chevelle.  The Z16 Chevelle had a chrome lid where Impala/BelAir/Biscayne were painted black.  This one has a black lid which is correct for this car.  This air cleaner was really, REALLY hard to find.  It has been metal finished and completely restored. It is very, very nice.  The stickers for it are questionably correct (so-so reproductions).  I have over $2500 invested in this air cleaner.
  • Somewhere I have a NOS GM original Engine Stop Lift kit #325875.  I cant find it but I know its here.  For this auction it is officially NOT included since I haven't found it yet.  That being said if I find it I will give it to the winner of the auction.
Transmission
  • Case #3851325.  Very nice original.  Incorrect surface texture
  • Bellhousing #3866983.  This is the Ultra rare bellhousing that is 1965 409 and 425HP/396 Impala/BelAir/Biscayne, and Z16 Chevelle only.  It is the only sand cast GM bellhousing and has a unique shape.  This bellhousing has been repaired from a clutch explosion.  The repair is very good.  Incorrect surface texture.  Looks very good and matches the transmission texture exactly.
  • There is a shifter (handle only) that may or may not be correct for this car.  It is a nice, chrome, bench-set type and has the finger pull for the reverse gate.
Gauges
  • ORIGINAL 7000 RPM in dash Tachometer!  This is L78 Impala/Belair/Biscayne only.  Very few of these cars came with this tach.  Most had either a column tach or none at all.  The value of this tach alone is $3400 IF you could ever find one.  It was in extremely good original condition when I found it.  It was sent out to Redline Gauges and was completely gone through and re-calibrated.  The facing on this tach is still ORIGINAL and is super nice!
  • Speedometer has been sent out to Redline Gauges and completely rebuilt.  It has been refaced and the odometer zeroed out.
  • Original gauge cluster has also been sent out to Redline Gauges and completely rebuilt.  All gauges were refaced and re-calibrated. Also have the original gauge wiring harness.
  • Comes with a spare instrument cluster and pretty nice plastic bezel.  Used.
  • NOS Radio Delete Plate
  • Vacuum Gauge.  This is original and unrestored.  It is pretty nice.  I believe this would go in the dash where the above tach is going to go.  You cannot use both but I thought it was kind of neat to have with the car.
Misc
  • NOS Dog dish Hubcaps.  These caps are original and have NEVER been on a car.  There are maybe some very slight finish imperfections because they are from GM and they were never perfect even new.  That being said these are the nicest original hubcaps you would ever hope to find.
  • Used 4:11 Gears and open Differential (12 Bolt).  These may be Richmond Gears.
Please call me if you have questions about this car.  Bret (509) 220-8684

I was not able to post as many pictures as I wanted to.  I will be happy to email you as many pictures as you need.

Please note there are some parts that will still be needed to complete this car.  This is NOT a real 425HP L78 car.  This is a very correct "Tribute" car.

Have clear Washington Title.

Happy bidding and Good Luck !!!

GM recalls Colorado, Canyon, and Malibu for airbag problem

Wed, Mar 9 2016

The Basics: General Motors will recall and issue a stop sale on 1,740 total examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, Malibu, and GMC Canyon. This includes 1,579 units in the US and 161 in Canada. The Problem: The second stage of the driver front airbag inflator might not be present. If this happens, the airbag won't fill as quickly as it should in a high-speed crash, which could increase the risk of injury, according to Reuters. This is not related in any way to Takata's inflator problems, and these parts come from a different supplier. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: GM will replace the vehicles' airbag assemblies. If You Own One: GM spokesperson Tom Wilkinson told Autoblog he wasn't specifically sure when recall repairs would begin but said it would be "shortly." He expects the fixes to happen "quickly" because of the small number of affected vehicles, and many of them are either in transport or already in dealer stock. More Information: GM recalled the 2015 Canyon and Colorado in 2014 for a completely separate airbag issue. In that case, a manufacturing error improperly wired the connectors. Related Video: GM Statement GM is recalling 1,579 MY 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Malibu vehicles in the United States and 161 in Canada to replace driver-side front airbags. The second stage of the airbag may not deploy properly in certain high-speed crashes. During a routine quality inspection, it was determined that a component required for a second-stage/high-output deployment was not loaded during the inflator build. Dealers will replace the driver-side front airbag assembly. There have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue. This issue is unrelated to the ongoing Takata recalls.

Chevy, Kid Rock in Confederate flag row with civil rights group

Mon, Jul 13 2015

Two of Detroit's own are ensnared in controversy today. In an interview with Fox News' Megyn Kelly, mulleted musician Kid Rock told those protesting the Confederate Battle Flag to "kiss my ass." Now, Chevrolet, which is sponsoring Rock's summer concert tour, is under fire for its support. "We are committed to our sponsorship of Kid Rock's summer tour and are confident that he will provide his fans, many of whom are proud Chevrolet owners, with a spectacular concert experience that celebrates American Freedom," a Chevy spokesperson told The Detroit Free Press last week. The company also uses the Kid Rock anthem Born Free in its pickup truck advertising. The company's position is not sitting well with the Detroit chapter of the National Action Network, though, which has called on GM to pull its support for the embattled artist. "It's obvious to us that, by supporting [Rock], while he's making inflammatory statements, General Motors becomes an accomplice if they allow him their support to stand behind his statements," the Rev. Charles Williams II, NAN's Detroit chapter director, told the Freep. As controversial as Rock's comments are, it's not entirely clear when the last time he actually waved that flag was. The Freep reports that several concertgoers don't recall seeing the flag during his most recent tour, or even over the last few years of concerts. In a 2002 interview with the paper, Rock, real name Robert Ritchie, said that the flag had been used as a symbol of southern rock and a rebel spirit, saying: "It's not about hatred or being a racist. I like Southern rock music, and a lot of people died under that flag for beliefs they had, right or wrong. But it stands for rebel, and my love of Southern rock." Related Video:

A conversation with GM's Mark Reuss on MPG, aluminum and Corvettes

Wed, Feb 19 2014

There was plenty to talk about when General Motors hosted its annual mid-December holiday media reception a few months ago. GM had just decided to pull its global Chevrolet brand out of major European markets, where Chevys have competed directly with GM Europe Opel and Vauxhall vehicles, and the US government had sold its last remaining shares of GM stock. But most important was the company's just-reshuffled leadership. Post-bankruptcy CEO Dan Akerson had announced that he would step aside and that 52-year-old Mary Barra would replace him on January 15. Not only would she be the first woman to lead a major automaker, she would also be GM's first engineer CEO since Bob Stempel in the early 1990s. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors" - Mark Reuss Replacing her as executive VP for global product development (and purchasing and supply chain) would be 49-year-old Mark Reuss, who had served a stellar four years as North American president, and elevated to corporate president (from executive VP and CFO) would be 42-year-old Dan Amman. All three are relatively young auto enthusiasts who are liked and respected inside and outside the company, and their collective talents and experience are highly complementary. I've interviewed Barra and found her smart, personable and knowledgeable, though she carefully walks the corporate line in speaking and answering questions. I met and chatted with Ammann for the first time at that holiday reception, and he made a good first impression. But I've known Reuss for some time as a genuinely good guy and a highly capable and inspiring leader, and I believe he is exactly the right person for the global product responsibility once famously held by the outspoken, oft-controversial Bob Lutz. So I jumped at an opportunity to join a group interview of Reuss (with mostly business reporters) at the Detroit Auto Show in January. It was an interesting session of mostly good questions, which he answered with refreshing candor and humor. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors," Reuss said. "We've taken down almost every plant in North America, converted and turned it this last year, and to do that with award-winning vehicles and pretty flawless launches is key. We have to keep the train rolling on great product, because the rest won't happen without the best product, period." A reporter asked whether GM was pushing big trucks, SUVs and Corvettes again because gas is cheap. "No," Reuss said.
