1957 Chevrolet 150 2dr Sedan on 2040-cars

One of the most important things to know about this restoration is that it is done on an original V-8 car.  Most '57 2-door sedans were six-cylinder cars from the factory.  If you inquire from most advertisers of 150 models, regardless of their being original or modified cars, you will find that the car started life as a six-cylinder.  Another factor of this 150 is that it was also a surf green car from the factory.  Now for the restoration.

It is a rotisserie restored car.  Stripped and repainted to surf green and white.  The floor pans had some rust, so I replaced the entire floor from firewall to rear bumper with a one-piece 'All Steel' floor.  The interior is a C.A.R.S. replacement original.  The interior, dash, column, and steering wheel are factory correct.  All '57 150 models had the same interior colors.  The dashes were black regardless of body color.  All rubber, wiring, glass and chrome are new.  Stainless is polished to show quality condition.  I consider the car to have only two options:  the two-four motor and electric wipers.  All other items have delete plates.

The engine and heads were rebuilt.  The engine block is stamped correctly as a 283 cubic inch, 270 HP motor.  The block, heads, and intake are all 1957 components.  The two carburetors were rebuilt and correctly colored by Bob Kuntz.  The bat-wing air cleaner is correct, and the 3-speed and rear end were rebuilt.  The exhaust system is aluminized, is '57 correct, and was purchased from Shafer's Classics in Tampa, FL.  The tires are black-wall radials and are the correct size.  The steel wheels are '57 correct.  They are 14-inch solid wheels, meaning no dust slots.

This 150 is correctly restored using correct nuts, bolts, body mounts and clips.  The '57 runs and drives very well but as of this ad, the restoration has only two miles on the odometer.

I have restored over twenty-five 1957 Chevrolets - sedans and hardtops, but mostly convertibles.  All were body-off cars.  Usually I will keep one for a little while, sell it, and look for another to restore.  I enjoy the search for the cars, the teardown and the reassembly.  Unfortunately, I can't keep them all.  The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to pull the listing at any time.

Good luck in your bidding.

Watch this time-lapse build of the Chevy SS for NASCAR

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

There's only about a week left until we get our first look at the production version of the 2014 Chevrolet SS sedan, but Chevrolet NASCAR teams have been looking at the race version of the car all winter. Autoweek has posted a really neat time-lapse video showing just a portion of what it takes to build one of NASCAR's new Gen6 stock cars.
Though the video is quite brief, it does show almost the entire build process starting with just the car's nose, and it gives us a good look at how integral the template is to the final product. As a bonus, Hendrick Motorsports also provided some videos showing two of its teams performing pit stop tests over the winter. The second video shows some of the more detailed aspects of the racecar's rear end, including the stock-looking trunk cutout and a newly mandated rear bumper extension that will be used on super speedways like Daytona and Talladega.
To see what Team Chevy has been up to all off-season, check out all three videos posted after the jump.

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
