1956 Chevrolet 150 mild custom restomod.

Clean and clear California title.

Originally produced in Los Angeles and has been in the Southern California all its life.  This was a rust free desert car which has been completely rebuilt and restored to a high standard with thousands of dollars in receipts documenting the work carried out.

Painted in 2006 in that year’s new Dodge  Viper red, the shell was first stripped down to the metal then restored and professionally painted inside and out at a cost of $12,700, which should give you an indication of its quality.  There were some very subtle custom touches added to enhance the classic lines such as shaving the door handles, mirrors, hood emblem and licence plate holder. The doors have remote entry via a Viper alarm system and the licence plate hides under the rear bumper on a custom flip down bracket.  All the exterior chrome and stainless trim, both front and rear bumpers, headlights, tail lights, side glass, windshield, moldings, wipers, grille etc have been replaced with the best quality new Danchuk Manufacturing items. All rubber gaskets, seals and felts were also replaced.

The interior has been restored from headliner to carpet, with retrimmed door panels, quarter trim, rear bench and front bucket seats in a classic tuck and roll design. All the handles and brightwork are also new. All four windows are tinted and power, a high end Kenwood/Hertz eight speaker stereo system has been installed with the headunit hidden in the glovebox.  Sound proofing throughout. Rewired front to back with Painless Wiring and fitted with a comprehensive integrated pager security system.

New 350 crate motor purchased directly from GM, augmented with Mahle pistons, ported and polished Dart / World heads, dual four barrel Holley carbs on port matched polished intake, mild Crower cam, Crane hardware, Pete Jackson dual idler gear drive etc, Modine rad, dual fans, Mallory HEI, 8mm Pro Sidewinder leads, chrome high output GM alternator, chrome and polished bolts, brackets and accessories throughout.  Polished and chromed valve covers and low profile air cleaner.

New 700R4 overdrive Performance Auto heavy duty street and strip transmission with a manual/automatic valve body, high performance  clutches, bands, and servos. Lokar remote dipstick, floor shifter and remote trans cooler. Rebuilt Positraction rearend. Vented disc brakes.

Custom made Flowmaster 2.5 inch exhaust system with custom chrome tips and Hooker headers.

New 20x10 and 18x8 polished alloy deep dish pro touring wheels with new low profile tires. Fatman Fabrication dropped spindles and lowered springs in front and National springs in rear. The new owner will also have the option of switching the wheels for genuine 15 inch staggered American Racing Torq Thrust  II wheels for a more classic retro hot rod look ( see pics for American Racing mags fitted ).

The car looks and drives as a well engineered custom street machine should. The motor has a mild lope from the cam and an aggressive low whine from the gear drive. The exhaust note is deep and low, it’s not obnoxiously loud but there is no mistaking there’s a tuned V8 under the hood.  Normal street driving is balanced and predictable with no surprises, freeway cruising is smooth and relaxed thanks to the overdrive, but with spirited driving the tires can be chirped between gears easily and smoked from a standstill at will.  All in all this is a very clean, well built street machine that can and has been driven across country. Although it’s not strictly a show car or trailer queen, it’s picked up a couple of rock chips over the years but it still wins trophies at every event it’s taken to.

Any inspection is welcomed. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

On Mar-30-14 at 19:17:53 PDT, seller added the following information:

In answer to a few questions i've had,

The engine output has been measured at 387 horsepower, it was tuned on a dyno to setup the twin carbs and that was the only time the power was rated. The carbs are tuned for street use but i've been adviced by the tuning shop that retuning with bigger jets and timing would free up more power. i have not raced the car so cannot say what the quarter mile times are.

All parts repalced during the rebuild and restoration were new, no used or junk yard parts. The engine was supplied by a Chevrolet dealership as a factory new unit.

There is actually only one rock chip to speak of on the drivers side front fender that i can find on closer inspection, its smaller than the size of a dime.

The American Racing wheels are near new, as are the tires.

2016 Chevy Volt ads strike frustrating, yet familiar, chord

Fri, Oct 2 2015

Sometimes, it's hard to let go. In the six years that GM has been advertising and selling the Chevy Volt, one dominant message is that the car is an EV without any range anxiety. On the one hand, this is a positive thing: our car does something that other electric vehicles don't. Of course, there's another, more reasonable take on the message that EVs only equal limited range: don't promote this viewpoint if you ever plan on selling a pure EV. But, of course, this is exactly what GM is doing with a new ad for the 2016 Chevy Volt. Called Elevator, the spot (watch it above) compares driving an all-electric car with riding in an elevator getting stuck. Your Nissan Leaf might run out of electricity, the ad says, and that would be as uncomfortable as being trapped between floors. The main problem, of course, is that Chevy also offers the Spark EV and is getting ready to sell the Bolt EV. Does the company think that everyone will forget these anti-EV commercials when it come time to shop for a Bolt? Even worse, does GM think we've forgotten the Anthem ad for the Volt back in 2010? Apparently, so. Elevator isn't the only ad for the 2016 Volt that GM debuted today. The other, called Time Capsule (below), takes a swipe at the Toyota Prius. Trouble is, there are two easy ways to dismiss this ad as well. First, and most obviously, if GM is against using old technology, then why does it continue to shove a 100-year-old fossil fuel engine into almost every car it builds? Second, attacking the Prius for using 15-year-old tech – when said tech is still able to mop the floor with any hybrid from GM in the fuel economy race - is more like an admission of defeat than anything to be proud of. "Hey look, the Prius uses technology from the '90s," GM says. To which the observant viewer will ask, "Well, then why can't you build a 50-mile-per-gallon hybrid, GM?" It's also worth noting that Chevy has been on a misguided advertising streak as of late. We bashed their ads that suggested its Silverado is better than the F-150 because it uses steel instead of aluminum, too, especially since those commercials used shark cages and stupid superhero costumes in an attempt to make a point. Chevy, stop assuming we're all idiots. Please. Now, the 2016 Volt is a great car and I know that GM can make a darn good Volt ad (like this one), so seeing the company shoot solid fuel-efficient technologies in the back (again and again) is just frustrating.

Next-gen Chevy Cruze caught cruising in the cold

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Spy photographers have caught what looks like the next-generation Chevrolet Cruze out on snow patrol. The camo could be tricking our eyes, but it look like it has an even tidier, more rounded front end and even lower fenders in relation to the top of the hood. And either a chunk of camo has been wedged between the side mirrors and the doors, or the mirrors are up for revision, too.
The door handles have been moved up the side of the car, leading the way to a rear end that grows a bit in length. If the rumors are true, the coming second-generation Cruze sits on the new D2XX platform that will replace the Delta and Theta platforms at General Motors. A global architecture, the Cruze will be the first to get it, but it will underpin everything from next Chevrolet Volt to the Equinox and could be responsible for 2.5 million units by 2018. The next Cruze is expected to begin production in GM's Lordstown, Ohio plant in the third quarter of 2014.
