********** 2006 CADILLAC STS V8 ********** THE STS IS THE 2006 SUCCESSOR TO THE SEVILLE, WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY INTRODUCED WAY BACK IN 1956 AS A HARDTOP COUPE DESIGNED TO BE THE TOP PERFORMANCE OPTION IN THE CADILLAC LINEUP. A 305-HORSEPOWER V8 ENGINE AND EXCLUSIVE HIGH-END INTERIOR TRIM ENSURED THAT THE SEVILLE WAS NOT ONLY ONE OF THE FASTEST VEHICLES ON THE ROAD, BUT ONE OF THE MOST LUXURIOUS AS WELL. CADILLAC SHOOK THINGS UP SEVERAL DECADES LATER WHEN THE ALL-NEW SEVILLE WAS UNVEILED AS A HIGH-PERFORMANCE SPORT SEDAN CAPABLE OF KEEPING UP WITH THE BEST EUROPE COULD OFFER. CUTTING-EDGE STYLING, TIGHTER BUILD QUALITY AND THE ADDITION OF A NEW SPORT MODEL CALLED THE STS MADE CADILLAC THE TALK OF THE TOWN. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE ULTRAHIGH-TECH AND POWERFUL NORTHSTAR V8 A YEAR LATER FURTHER CEMENTED THE STS AS ONE OF THE TOP PERFORMANCE LUXURY CARS IN THE WORLD. ANOTHER REDESIGN FOR 1998 SAW THE SEVILLE PICK UP A SOPHISTICATED ARRAY OF IN-CAR ELECTRONICS. BY THE BEGINNING OF THE CURRENT MILLENNIUM, THOUGH, IT HAD LOST SOME OF ITS APPEAL, AS EUROPEAN AND JAPANESE COMPETITORS SURPASSED IT IN BOTH LUXURY AND PERFORMANCE. CADILLAC HAS DROPPED THE SEVILLE NAME FOR 2006, BUT THE REVOLUTIONARY NEW STS DEFINITELY SHARES SOME DNA WITH ITS FOREBEARS. THIS CAR REPRESENTS A QUANTUM LEAP FORWARD IN TECHNOLOGY, BUILD QUALITY AND OVERALL REFINEMENT. GM'S GLOBALLY DEVELOPED SIGMA PLATFORM CUT ITS TEETH AS A SUCCESSFUL BACKBONE IN THE CTS, CTS-V AND SRX, AND WAS TAPPED ONCE AGAIN TO LEND SOME PERFORMANCE CRED TO THE BIG BOY OF THE CADILLAC LINE. HARD-EDGED STYLING INTRODUCED A FEW YEARS AGO ON THE ESCALADE HAS BEEN TRICKLING DOWN TO THE REST OF THE CADILLAC LINE, AND WE THINK IT HAS BEEN APPLIED MOST SUCCESSFULLY HERE. CLEAN, ELEGANT LINES ON THE OUTSIDE WORK WITH LOADS OF LEATHER AND WOOD TRIM IN THE CABIN TO FORM A LASTING IMPRESSION OF QUALITY AND LUXURY. EXTRA ATTENTION WAS GIVEN TO REDUCING ROAD NOISE, AND DETAILS LIKE A QUIET STEEL DASH, TRIPLE DOOR SEALS AND EVEN "AIRFOIL" WINDSHIELD WIPERS DESIGNED IN A WIND TUNNEL ALL CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING THIS THE QUIETEST GM VEHICLE EVER BUILT. ENGINE OPTIONS ON THE CADILLAC STS INCLUDE A REFINED NEW 255-HORSE V6 AS THE STANDARD MOTOR, AND THE OPTIONAL 4.6-LITER NORTHSTAR V8 CHURNING OUT A SMOOTH 320 PONIES FOR THOSE WHO EXPECT A LITTLE MORE. A FIVE-SPEED AUTOMATIC CHANNELS POWER TO THE REAR WHEELS AND EIGHT-CYLINDER MODELS ARE AVAILABLE WITH ALL-WHEEL DRIVE FOR THOSE WHO NEED EXTRA TRACTION COME WINTERTIME. FINALLY, THIS CADILLAC CAR IS A TECHNOPHILE'S DREAM, THANKS TO GOODIES SUCH AS A HEAD-UP DISPLAY, ACTIVE CLIMATE CONTROL, BLUETOOTH WIRELESS CELL PHONE CONNECTIVITY AND EVEN AN OPTIONAL 15-SPEAKER BOSE 5.1 SURROUND SOUND AUDIO SYSTEM. DEFINING WHERE THE 2006 CADILLAC STS FITS INTO THE LUXURY SEDAN MARKETPLACE CAN BE A DIFFICULT TASK. LARGER THAN A MIDSIZE SEDAN YET PRICED LOW ENOUGH TO COMPETE WITH CONSIDERABLY SMALLER IMPORTS, THE SPORTY NEW CADDY CAN COMFORTABLY COMPETE WITH THE E-CLASS AND 5 SERIES IN VIRTUALLY EVERY CATEGORY. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A GENERATION, GM'S PREMIUM BRAND IS READY TO TAKE ON ALL CHALLENGERS. THIS 2006 CADILLAC STS V8 IS ABSOLUTELY LOADED WITH OPTIONS. IT HAS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND PAMPERED.

Bosch builds an infotainment system that just might not suck
Tue, Jan 30 2018As far as we've come with in-car infotainment and interfaces over the past decade or so, we still have a long way to go — as most current systems show. Whether it's high-end brands like Mercedes-Benz with its kludgy COMAND system, which we hope will be replaced with the MBUX platform revealed at CES, or more mainstream vehicles like Hondas (with their frustrating, knobless Display Audio interface), getting the kind of content and ease of use in the car that we're used to having on other connected devices is far too complex and sometimes costly. While Apple and Google have tried to ride to the rescue with CarPlay and Android Auto, respectively, they're limited solutions. No automaker or tech supplier has been able to deliver an easy, economical, flexible and non-distracting infotainment solution. But Bosch could be closing in on this elusive goal, given the digital cockpit concept demo I recently received at CES. Displayed in a Cadillac Escalade, the concept featured five interconnected color screens: one in the instrument cluster, two in the center console, and two more in the front-seat headrest for second-row passengers. The digital cockpit concept demo had cool features such as haptic-feedback touch-screen controls that created an edge-like feeling similar to a physical button, facial recognition to confirm driver credentials, and the intelligence to know the location of a phone in the car to lock it out to keep the driver from texting. The most significant aspect of the Bosch digital cockpit concept wasn't visible — but shows the company's vision for a future of seamless, convenient, cost-effective and safe in-car infotainment. It's powered by a single electronic control unit (ECU) that can simultaneously run multiple operating systems and also separates vehicle and infotainment controls for critical safety and cybersecurity reasons. Most modern cars can have as many as 100 separate ECUs, Philip Ventimiglia, product manager for Bosch Car Multimedia North America, explained at CES, and several just for infotainment functions. "The goal is to reduce that to about 10 so that we can save cost throughout the vehicle and enable new technologies," he added. "OEMs want to put more technology into cars, but it costs money," Ventimiglia said.
GM recalls 740,000 vehicles over daytime running light issue
Wed, Dec 14 2022General Motors is recalling over 740,000 vehicles due to a daytime running light issue that causes all of the affected cars to run afoul of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Vehicles affected by this recall are spread across many of GM’s brands. Models include the 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, 2021-2023 Buick Envision, 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, 2022-2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe and 2022-2023 GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL. GM says that the daytime running lights may remain on in these cars when the headlights are activated. This is a problem, because FMVSS rules require that the daytime running lights deactivate once the headlights turn on. If the DRLs remain on, GM says that could result in additional glare, thereby increasing the risk of an accident. The cause of this failure to deactivate the DRLs comes from body control module software that “under a combination of certain pre-conditions, could fail to deactivate the DRLs,” according to GM. Other GM vehicles were tested, but due to a difference in software or hardware, they remain unaffected. If this is reminding you of another recent GM recall, youÂ’d be right, as GM recalled another 340,000 vehicles for the same issue last month. After that original issue was found within GM, the company began looking into its other cars to determine if the population was larger than originally thought. GM found the additional vehicles included in todayÂ’s recall have the problem. The fix will either be via an over-the-air update or it will require you to bring the vehicle into a dealer for a software update, depending on which vehicle you have. Owner notification letters letting folks know what is necessary are currently scheduled to go out on January 23, 2023. Related video: Cadillac Escalade Infotainment Review
GM investing $2 billion in Tennessee plant to build Cadillac Lyriq, other EVs
Tue, Oct 20 2020DETROIT — General Motors said on Tuesday it will invest $2 billion to convert its Spring Hill, Tennessee, factory to produce electric vehicles, starting with the new Cadillac Lyriq, alongside existing combustion-engine Cadillacs. Spring Hill will be GM's third U.S. electric vehicle factory, along with existing plants in Detroit and Orion Township, Michigan. The Tennessee plant was built in 1990 as the exclusive source for GM's now-defunct Saturn brand. The Cadillac Lyriq crossover is slated to go into production in Spring Hill in late 2022, according to AutoForecast Solutions (AFS), which tracks industry production plans. AFS said it expects some electric vehicle production will be announced at a later date for a factory in Mexico. Among additional investments, GM on Tuesday said it will spend $32 million at its truck plant in Flint, Michigan, to increase production of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups. GM will spend $100 million to shift production of the redesigned GMC Acadia crossover from Spring Hill to a plant near Lansing, Michigan. Spring Hill will continue to build the gas-engine Cadillac XT5 and XT6 crossovers. The plant also will build other future electric vehicles in addition to the Lyriq. The automaker's plans for investing in U.S. factories comes with two weeks left in the U.S. presidential election campaign. President Donald Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden are competing for support from auto workers in Midwestern swing states. GM Chief Executive Mary Barra has outlined plans to invest $20 billion by 2025 in new electric vehicles and battery technology. The automaker is spending $2.2 billion to overhaul and retool its Detroit-Hamtramck factory to build a GMC Hummer EV electric pickup truck in late 2021, followed by an automated robotaxi and other electric vehicles. GM builds its electric Chevrolet Bolt at a large assembly plant north of Detroit.
