From time to time people who know me send me leads on cars they think I could be interested in because I'm an old car nut and trade up and down often. This is one of those cars that I got one such call on. You're viewing an outstanding example of GM at its finest in the 80's, a 1988 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham four door. These cars were the epitome of style, comfort, elegance, and refined American class and with just 60K on the clock it's an absolute time capsule. The color combination was attractive when new and still is, very classic. I was led to the home of the elderly owner who had an interest but an unwillingness to sell the car. He was fond of it and it showed on his face and in his voice. The trouble was it was getting too big for him to maneuver and his wife I am told disliked the car.

I acquired the car and immediately got in and drove it two hours to Baltimore for a weekend away with the family and it drove flawlessly as I would have expected. The Olds 307 runs it down the road just fine and with the cruise set she ran all the way there and back at 65 MPH without an issue. The transmission shifts perfectly and the overdrive works just as it should. All options work just as they should EXCEPT the power antenna, which needs a new mast. It goes up and down manually but the inner workings are plastic and have apparently stripped out. The guts of these are nylon gears so one is likely stripped, but these can be found here on eBay if you'd like to replace it. The interior of the car is to be simply put, perfect. The seats, carpet, headliner, and door panels are like new and there are no signs of wear to be found. Even the notorious "elbow" cracks in the armrest's are absent. The weatherstrips on the doors, trunk, windows, etc. are soft and pliable and are not torn or gouged in any way.

All of the door jambs, under the hood, and in the trunk area are just as nice and show nothing unusual or irregular at all. Zero and I do mean zero signs of ANY kind of rust, surface or otherwise to be found. The exterior is all original GM lacquer and has a very good shine and shows no signs of hazing, crazing, "gatoring", breaking down, thinning or peeling in any way. It has the original factory painted pinstripes which are in tact and looks like they were just applied yesterday. The only paint work ever done is on the right quarter panel above the moulding, showing a repaint for something obviously very minor long ago but still looks good and is a very decent match. The vinyl top is soft and pliable and looks new but is absolutely original. The filler panels for the bumpers are soft and pliable and have no cracks, tears, or issues to be concerned about. The chrome is absolutely spectacular and has no sun fade, no peeling, no cracks, no fading or issues of any kind. They are original but look like they could have been chromed yesterday. The car was garaged her whole life and pampered and it shows.

There are four MINOR issues on the exterior and are located at the same area of each front fender, forward of the tire on the leading edge of the wheel opening, a very slight crease on the wheel opening area and the same on the right side which is a little bit worse but are what I think is evidence of the older gentleman rubbing something while parking or going on or out of the garage. The third area is below the key and crest on the trunk lid showing a minor dent. The last issue is the filler panel below the license plate and fuel filler. It has cracks but new ones are available here on eBay for under $60 bucks. I've photographed these areas of concern and they are minor and don't detract from the car in any way. There aren't even any parking lot door bangers to be seen on the sides of the car.

Underneath the car is super clean which is further evidence of how well cared for and loved the car must have been. It's clean, clean, clean. No rust scale or even surface rust showing on the frame or body or suspension components. No leaks evident, no greasy spots, no problems = no worries.

The car has brand new plugs, air filter, transmission flush, fluid and filter change and new cat back exhaust, 02 sensor and new rear air shocks. New tires all around and more I am forgetting right now. It is currently in with my mechanic and he is looking at an issue that cropped up last weekend; the check engine light came on. This issue will be repaired regardless of what it is and you won't have any worries if you buy it. I am also including a new factory service manual with the sale.

Basically, no excuses needed or offered. It needs nothing but a new owner. It runs down the road straight and true and is an absolute pleasure to drive and to ride in. In the Inner Harbor of Baltimore I was approached by several admirers asking about the car. It is a special car and if you don't like attention you probably shouldn't buy it.

I've placed a reasonable reserve on the car based on what I know it to be and based on what others here on eBay have been listed at and have been selling for. There are currently a few nice examples listed this week and this one appears to be just as nice. This is a special car that is in very difficult condition to find and has low miles, especially for the year. This is a car you drive occasionally that will appreciate in value easily, or to put up and wait for the value to increase and help you with your retirement fund. I truly hope that whoever may buy it wont press it into daily service because that would truly be a sin.

I welcome personal inspections, inspection services, or intelligent questions about the car. I'm not trying to oversell you on the car but giving you valuable information so you can make an intelligent decision on whether or not this should be your next purchase. I've nothing to hide and in fact the car would sell itself if you were to see it in person. Most of my cars go overeas however I doubt this one will as there is more interest in this kind of car here in the states. If it fails to move here I will likely add it to my personal collection as a hedge against retirment costs in the future. I have many more pics if you'd like or can take shots of anything else you may want to see, simply ask. Bid to own and thanks for looking.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

Five awesome Lego car creations

Thu, 23 Oct 2014

Lego cars are among our favorite toys. They're fun for play, and if built properly, great to display. With that in mind, we've crafted a list of some of the best creations we've seen. Some are on sale now, while others are merely the work of fanciful enthusiasts. There are even a couple that you definitely cannot buy (we'll explain).
Our choices are diverse, including everything from a diminutive 1969 Chevy Corvette to a fullsize Ferrari Formula One racecar. These are just five projects that caught our eye - there are many more out there - so if you don't see your favorite Lego car on the list (or if you have your own creation), please tell us about it, in Comments.
