1998 Cadillac Eldorado Etc Coupe 2-door 4.6l on 2040-cars
Norcross, Georgia, United States
Thanks for looking at my listing, which is for a 1998 Cadillac Eldorado ETC. This was my father's car, and I bought it from him in May of 2013. He owned it for about 10 years prior, when he bought it from a repossession agency. I am selling the car because I recently purchased a new vehicle. It runs and drives well, has cold A/C, and has had at least $1000 worth of work done in the last few months that I have owned it. It does not come without flaws however, and I will attempt to describe them as thoroughly as possible here.
The car is 16 years old and has a little over 185,000 miles. It has 4 Michelin 225/60/16 Harmony tires which were purchased in April 2011. There are about 55K miles on the set. They have been regularly rotated and still have a fair amount of tread. They are in need of rotation as it was due at 185K miles. I put in a brand new NAPA battery in February of this year. I had new plugs and wires put in in June of 2013. My Dad had the water pump replaced in March of 2013. There is an issue with these vehicles which causes their trunk to leak, which I will go in to detail later, but I replaced the trunk seal in August of 2013 trying to help stop the leak (it helped some, but not completely). It has a new radiator reservoir, fuel filter and either one or both radiator fans, which were purchased in 10/13. The alternator was replaced and the transmission fluid was changed in November 2013. I replaced all four ignition coils in January of this year. The check engine light was on (it is not anymore), so I replaced the catalytic converter in April 2014 and it passed emissions with no problems. Most recently, I replaced the front brakes and rotors in May of this year. The car runs and drives well. It has a little bit of a stutter when first started up, especially in colder weather, but as soon as it has been running for a few minutes that goes away. The transmission shifts smoothly when driving around town as well as on the highway. The car has a ton of power. You have to use premium gas in it and I always have. Both power windows raise and lower with no problems. The Bose sound system sounds great, and the CD changer in the trunk works fine and has a 12 CD magazine. The grill has come off on the right door and needs to be reattached. The factory head unit has a working tape player and single disc CD player as well. The A/C blows cold and is full of freon. There is a door that switches the air between the defrost and driver/passenger sides that sometimes acts up and either sends the A/C out of the defrost vents and/or blows cold out of the drivers side and hot out of the passenger side, but this only happens on occasion and I have found I can lightly smack the top of the dashboard and it will revert to the correct setting (the trap door is under there). Both power mirrors work, but one direction on the right mirror doesn't work (it has to be pushed manually) and the left one acts up occasionally. The sunroof works perfectly, but apparently the drains are clogged, as sometimes after it rains, a little water can leak inside the back. I have read online that this can be fixed, but I have never invested the time to do it. This model from around this time is notorious for trunk leaks, and my Dad was unaware of the problem the whole time he had it. When I bought it from him, I discovered that the trunk was full of rust. This can be seen in the pictures. My dad was in a minor accident where he made a turn and didn't realize someone was coming towards him, so he drove up on the curb. There was some damage to the car, but it was repaired. However, sometimes when backing out or making a sharp turn in a certain direction, you can hear the front left wheel scraping the hub of the car. This is not dangerous, and it does not affect the tire; just a minor annoyance which is audible. The car has power seats with optional heating. Both work fine to my knowledge. I rarely use the feature. The leather upholstery is mainly in good condition for its age, especially the back seats. The power seats both work well. There is a small rip in the passenger head rest. The chrome wheels are shiny and in very good condition. One of the passenger air vents in the rear is broken off, but the air control works. The power antenna mast is broken, and for some reason the antenna motor will not shut off, so I have disconnected it. The car comes with the original owner's manual and holder. There is a piece of trim along the dash which houses the keyless entry sensor that has come out of the dashboard. I have seen this in many models of this age. The heat from the sun does something which causes the dashboard to expand, and this grill piece just pops out and will not set back in the groove correctly. The car comes with one remote keychain and two sets of keys. I have recently replaced the motor that pulls the trunk up and down. The main issue with this vehicle would be that it uses oil and has an oil leak. I have been told by mechanics that it would be costly to repair, so I have never invested the money to fix it. It uses about a quart a week under normal driving conditions. This would be a good car for someone who needs simple transportation for work, etc. and does not need to drive long distances. It has about an 18 gallon tank and costs about $70 to fill. It gets around 16 miles a gallon in the city and around 20-21 on the highway. It's a very smooth riding car and enjoyable to drive. Please contact me with any questions. Would prefer to sell to a local buyer but will work with someone out of state who wants to have it transported. Title in hand. I will not ship the vehicle out of the country. I will not accept a check for more than the amount of the price of the car and send you the difference. Vehicle being sold as-is, with no warranty of any kind. On Jul-09-14 at 19:19:31 PDT, seller added the following information: |

Johan de Nysschen tells his side of the story
Tue, Apr 23 2019Automobile snagged time with ex-Cadillac, Infiniti, and Volkswagen of America boss Johan de Nysschen. General Motors decided to part ways with de Nysschen on April 18, 2018, after the German spent four years in charge of America's luxury brand. The longtime auto exec is a polarizing figure for enthusiasts, who seem to take a mostly negative view of his work at Infiniti and Cadillac. However, there's no denying de Nysschen is frank, and in the Automobile interview he puts an insider's perspective on a big bag of issues we can only speculate on. One of the biggest bombshells in the interview was that it wasn't de Nysschen's idea to move Cadillac to New York: "When I was recruited, I was informed that the company would relocate to New York," he said. Previous GM CEO Dan Ackerson had made the decision before hiring de Nysschen, then Ackerson let his new hire make the announcement. The big change came only two years after de Nysschen had taken over Infiniti after insisting Nissan's luxury brand move to Hong Kong. De Nysschen explained Cadillac's NYC move with the same rationale as Infiniti's Hong Kong move, so everyone assumed the new guy was doing his usual. He explains in the interview that after the move, "Folks who rooted for Detroit felt betrayed. Cadillac had an enemy." And that became a problem. He has nothing bad to say about GM or Cadillac, believing on the contrary that "GM is in a good position going forward." But he brought clarity to some of Cadillac's struggles. Among the issues was GM's "very vigorous" post-bankruptcy test for green-lighting a project. Another was the lack of specialization for the luxury arm. "Engines were generically developed with the Chevy brand in mind," he said, "and, then, 'Okay, well, yeah, it's good enough for Cadillac.'" That carried over into haphazard technology rollouts. "GM didn't have a specific technology roadmap aligned to particular brands," he said. "The process was, as they were developing new technologies, they would look at what product's launch date would be aligned with the maturation date and market readiness of a technology and go with it, whether Buick, Chevy, or what have you." De Nysschen worked to end such generalized approaches, which is how we get Cadillac taking the GM lead on technology and electrification.
Recharge Wrap-up: BMW to test autonomous cars, Korea bans sales of BMW, Nissan, Porsche models
Thu, Jan 5 2017BMW will test autonomous cars on public roads by the second half of 2017. The German automaker, with partners Mobileye and Intel, will operate a fleet of 40 self-driving vehicles using a "scalable architecture" that will be made available to other automakers. The partners plan to offer products ranging from key components to "a complete end-to-end solution" for autonomous driving. Since parting ways with Tesla, Mobileye also recently announced it would provide its technology to Lucid Motors. For BMW, it all leads up to its fully autonomous iNext model slated for introduction in 2021. See the video above, and read more in the press release from Intel. South Korea has banned the sale of certain models from BMW, Nissan, and Porsche over emissions cheating. Following an investigation, regulators determined emissions testing documents to be falsified. The country's Ministry of Environment has fined the three automakers a total of $5.9 million, and revoked the certification of 4,523 vehicles across banned 10 models. Six of the models were still on sale, while the other four have been discontinued. Read more from Automotive News Europe. China's prices for the Cadillac CT6 Plug-in are significantly higher than those announced for the US. The plug-in hybrid version of the luxury sedan recently went on sale with the two variants priced at RMB 558,800 and RMB 658,800. At the time of this writing, that's $80,420 and $94,812. Cadillac announced it would bring the CT6 Plug-In Í– which is built in China – to the US in the spring of 2017, starting at $76,090 before federal and local tax incentives. Hybrid Cars points out that China's own generous incentives could help to make it more competitive. The offering of a charger with free installation as well as an eight-year warranty on the electric powertrain should help, too. Read more at Hybrid Cars. A Connecticut court has ruled in favor of Tesla's gallery showroom in Greenwich. Last May, the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association brought the suit to block the showroom on Greenwich Avenue, which has now been dismissed by the Connecticut Superior Court. Tesla cannot offer test drives, sell cars, or operate a Supercharger at the location, but it can sell other branded items and educate the public about its vehicles. It's possible that the issue of Tesla's direct sales model could come up again this year in Connecticut state legislature. Read more at Teslarati .
Best and Worst GM Cars
Thu, Apr 7 2022Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded. While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.
