Buick has best sales year ever, delivers over 1M cars globally

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

If there are any lingering doubts why General Motors held onto Buick while killing Pontiac, Hummer and Saturn, one only has to look at the sales numbers from 2013 for the real answer. Thanks largely to strong sales in China, Buick set a global sales record last year by selling more than one million vehicles.
The lion's share of Buick sales came from China, which sold more than 809,000 units - about four times more Buicks than were sold in North America as a whole. In the US, the Buick Encore accounted for almost half of all US sales with 97,311 units as Buick spent the summer trying to keep up with demand of the subcompact crossover. Likewise, China-only models like the GL8 minivan and Excelle sedan (same as the US-spec Verano) were strong sellers in that market.
For good measure, Buick more than doubled its sales in Mexico with 2,319 units. Scroll down for the full press release.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Mon, 20 Jun 2011

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

Buick picks top 11 highlights from first 11 decades

Sun, 21 Apr 2013

Buick has taken the time to highlight some of the company's personal points of pride from the past 110 years. Those include everything from the automaker's very first vehicle, the 1904 Model B, to what Buick claims is the world's first concept car: The 1938 Y Job (above). That one also walked away with the worst name for a design study.
All told, the automaker has sold 43 million vehicles through the end of last year, and those include the lusty 1963 Riviera. That model celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013, and remains one of the brand's most iconic designs.
Of course, Buick is rightfully proud of its quickest model, too. The 1987 GNX managed a 4.6-second bolt to 60 mph in tests by Car and Driver, and it also took the honor of being one of the automaker's rarest creations at just 547 units. You can check out all 10 in the gallery above.

DESCRIPTION
The Roadmaster was Buick’s newly introduced model beginning in 1936 and continued production through 1958. It was produced on the largest non-limousine chassis from General Motors, matching the wheelbase of entry-level Cadillacs, and senior class Oldsmobiles. As it migrated through multiple design changes, the Roadmaster survived as Buick’s flagship model after World War II. By 1955 it was accented with just the right amount of trim along with subtle, understated body attributes perfect for all types of executive buyers, but priced respectively for the common business professional.

This magnificent 1955 Buick Roadmaster Riviera Hardtop is finished in its original color combination of Dover White & Cherokee Red (code BSB) with nicely accented and correct Black & Red cloth and vinyl interior (code 472)! Under the hood lies the original 322ci Fireball V8-4bbl offering a newly rated 236 horsepower for 1955, mated to the reliable Dynaflow automatic transmission. It’s heavily equipped with options that include power steering, power brakes, power front seat, power windows, Selectronic AM radio with power antenna (now fixed) and foot-operated preset radio band selector (working), back-up lights, under dash tissue dispenser, auxiliary cigar lighter, day/night rearview mirror, dual outside mirror, full wheel hubcaps, wide whitewall radial tires measuring 225/75R15, and all original E-Z-Eye window glass with Shat-R-Proof windshield!

It received a full cosmetic & mechanical restoration with a fully rebuilt engine with rebuilt heads (new valves, valve springs, pushrods, and gaskets), new exterior base coat/clear coat paint, all new interior, headliner, new front & rear brake shoes, left & right axle seals, and more! Much of the trim & chrome is original with exception to the all the headlight & taillight bezels and complete rear bumper being re-chromed. It has added seatbelts dated from 1964 for the front seat passengers. The engine bay is well detailed to show quality appearance and is matched by the superb drive qualities! You will see the new 12-volt generator charging system with new spark plugs & wires, original Harrison radiator, rebuilt carburetor, air filter, & rebuilt fuel pump, and under hood insulation all fully intact! It should make for a great display at car shows! Inside, the overall appearance is ‘as-new’ with only very minor wear to be noted throughout. The mileage on the tires and engine total less than 1,000 miles since completion of the restoration in 2010. It remains wonderfully original and structurally solid throughout without any signs of damage or rust repair. It should make for a perfect contribution to a well-established collection or any Buick enthusiast all the same! Please call with any questions or to schedule a chance to view this Roadmaster in person!
