1987 Buick Grand National--11,691 Miles!!

The Grand National, the only real GM muscle car of the ‘80s, is unique in a number of important respects:

     ·       It is a 2-owner car with a reported (and documented) 11,691 miles since new!!

·       It is believed to have been built on the last day Buick produced the GNs

·       The original window sticker is included in the car’s documentation.

 Almost Showroom Quality!

This GN is almost showroom fresh:  great paint, like-new interior, very clean undercarriage.

  ·       Paint

Like all Grand Nationals, our ’87 is finished in black; unlike some GNs, the paint is in excellent condition.  The deep black finish gleams and has great depth.

The body and underside of the car appear to be free of rust and corrosion, other than minor surface rust on the unpainted surfaces.  Precisely what one would expect on such a low-mileage car that has been garaged.

The underside still shows some of the original factory assembly markings.

·       Interior

The seat upholstery black and gray cloth with the GN logo on the front seats and appears brand new.  The black carpeting is likewise as new and is additionally protected by GN-logo floor mats.

The door panels look new and the dash pad is in excellent condition.

The headliner appears perfect as well.

·       Engine

What made these cars a legend was the power plant:  a 3.8 liter turbo- charged engine with an intercooler that generated 245 horse power.  While that may seem tame by muscle car standards, these cars were able to go from the showroom floor to the track and turn 14-second quarter miles.  It was rumored at the time that the GN was faster (and more powerful) than the Corvette but for marketing purposes that fact wasn’t advertised.

The engine on this GN starts right up, runs smoothly and goes like a thoroughbred when the turbo kicks in.   The engine bay is very clean and detailed.

  • Transmission

The transmission is so reliable that Buick never offered the GN in anything other than an automatic.  It is quick-shifting and reliable, operated via the shifter on the console.

The rear axle is fitted with a 3.42 limited slip rear end, allowing the full torque of the engine to reach the pavement

·       Wheels/Tires/Brakes

This car is equipped with factory 15” aluminum wheels with a new set of 215/65R15 Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires.  The car is safely and quickly brought to a stop with Buick’s power front disc/rear drum braking system.

·       Comfort and Safety Systems

This is a car that is as much as home going to church as it is going to the track.  Seating for 5 with climate-control air conditioning makes it a pleasure on family trips, with plenty of trunk space for golf clubs, luggage or groceries.  The driver’s seat has the optional 6-way power controls to adjust to almost every driving position.

The original radio (that will also go with the car) has been replaced by a high-tech, in-dash Alpine GPS unit that incorporates AM/FM/Satellite radio as well as a CD player with iPod/iPhone and Bluetooth connectivity.

Of course all of the gauges, lights and other safety features work properly.  Power steering and power windows complete the package.

A  Perfect Example of Detroit’s ‘80s Muscle Car

With only 11,691 odometer miles, this Grand National is truly a rare beast that quickly turns into a family pussycat.  Designed to be a barn burner, the car immediately accommodates family usage with A/C and all the power options.  But make no mistake, this GN is a lion-eater in disguise:  once awakened by the competitive challenge, let the Mustangs, Camaros, ‘Vettes and Mopars beware because this Buick can take them all.

2014 Buick LaCrosse steps up to the big leagues with plenty of luxury

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

Following the introduction of the updated 2014 Buick LaCrosse and Regal, the oldest vehicle in Buick's lineup will be the Verano, which was just introduced last year. Having such a fresh product mix bodes well for Buick as it tries to create a new image in the US, and after checking out the amount of luxury being stuffed into the new LaCrosse for 2014, GM's awkwardly positioned brand may finally have the ability to stand out.
Granted, the model unveiled was the all-new, top-of-the-line Ultra Luxury Interior Package, but this package brings top-notch leather and soft suede covering everything above the beltline as well as real ash wood accent trim throughout the cabin. While there was no mention of price, we don't expect this model to come cheap in terms of what we expect from Buick, although it will likely be competitively priced with similarly equipped rivals like the Acura TL or Lexus ES. Adding even more to the LaCrosse's interior, dual eight-inch displays make up the gauge cluster and center stack, and the number of buttons on the center stack have been greatly reduced, creating a cleaner look for the instrument panel.
Another big change is the next-generation of Buick's IntelliLink infotainment system that brings with it all of the recent enhancements of the Cadillac CUE and Chevrolet MyLink systems. Differentiating itself from other GM infotainment systems, the new Buick IntelliLink stands out by allowing users to customize the apps they can add and not just being limited to what GM sees fit.

1969 Chevrolet Chevelle vs 1987 Buick GNX in Generation Gap showdown

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

Generation Gap generally tries to adhere to a theme for each episode, and for the final video from the Lingenfelter collection, the series might have its best idea yet - limited-production muscle cars from General Motors.
On one side you get a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle COPO, and it's an absolute sleeper. Other than the SS wheels, this classic coupe looks practically bone stock, at least until the engine fires up. Under the hood is a 427-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) V8 making a claimed 425 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This was the sole year for the COPO package on the Chevelle, and Chevy only made about 323 of them.
The Chevelle's challenger is almost as rare and arguably just as cool. The 1987 Buick Grand National GNX looks just as mean today as when new. It eschews a traditional muscular V8 in favor of a 3.8-liter turbo V6 making a claimed 276 hp and 360 lb-ft, although that number is supposedly a bit underrated. Also, just 547 examples of the GNX version were ever built making it quite a collector's item too.

Next Buick Regal coming in 2017, could be imported from Germany

Sun, 03 Aug 2014

The Buick Regal is based on the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, a pair of sedans from General Motors' European and British outfits. In fact, over 46,000 Regals from model years 2010 and 2011 were screwed together on the same lines as the Insignia twins, before GM's Oshawa, Ontario factory took over production fully. Considering this closeness, rumors that claim the next-generation Regal - due for 2017 - could move back to Europe aren't terribly surprising. Here's why, according to Automotive News.
Oshawa is home to three other vehicles, aside from the Regal - the Chevrolet Camaro, Impala rental queen and the Cadillac XTS. We already know next-gen Camaro production is headed to Lansing, MI, and that the fleet-only Impala will (finally!) die in 2016. As for the XTS, as AN explains it, sales are so slow that GM will either kill it or just shuffle its production volume elsewhere.
Taken along with the fact that Unifor, the Canadian labor union repping workers at the Oshawa factory, claim GM hasn't made any guarantees about future production at the nearly 60-year-old factory, it seems fairly clear that the Regal's current factory is going to be put out to pasture.
