2007 Bmw 5-series 530xit on 2040-cars
Templeton, Indiana, United States
This is a low mileage 2-owner vehicle well suited for the family that enjoys traveling in style and comfort. Most owners of this vehicle opted for the free automatic transmission; however, this car maintained its original 6-speed manual transmission making it somewhat rare and was hard to find. The engine is rated at 255 hp and 220 ft lbs of torque. I took ownership from Bell BMW in New Jersey that had initially leased it then put it through their certified used program after it was returned to them. It has not been a daily driver until recently; therefore, the mileage has remained relatively low at 65+K. The car was in the San Francisco Bay Area from July 2010 to June 2013 and maintained by Weatherford BMW in Berkeley under both the manufacturer's and certified pre-owned warranty; records included. The car is currently garaged in Pembroke Pines. FL. Around town gas mileage averages about 22 mpg, fully loaded with a roof rack around 25 mpg, and I have achieved 28-29 mpg on multiple lightly-loaded trips on open roads. A few of my favorite interior options include the front/rear heated seats and the heated steering wheel, large sunroof, and audio sound quality. There are LATCH attachments for child safety seats in the rear. On the outside, a critical component of the car's performance is the 18' 245 series wheel and tire package that ensures the car never loses traction. The AWD system mated with the dynamic stability and brake control ensures the car stays planted in any situation. An invisible but important brake-related safety feature, Dynamic Brake Control, moves the brake pads closer to the rotors if the driver quickly removes their foot from the accelerator in preparation for an emergency stop. The 0-60 time was advertised as 6.9 seconds which seems fairly accurate. The DVD charts for North America were updated to the 2012 edition and I will pass along the BMW car cover with the vehicle. The paint has been touched-up in two areas: the driver's door and rear bumper. The wheels have some minor scratches on the outer edges. There is a small indentation in the front bumper from a chain-link fence and a scratch on the front left. The left passenger door is dinged. The car is mechanically sound with no leaks and has years of enjoyment left to give to the right owner. Contact me with questions

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
4 automakers agree to $553M settlement of Takata airbag claims
Thu, May 18 2017WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Four automakers agreed to a $553 million settlement to address class-action economic loss claims covering owners of nearly 16 million vehicles with potentially defective Takata airbag inflators, according to court documents filed on Thursday. Toyota's share of the settlement costs is $278.5 million, followed by BMW at $131 million, Mazda at $76 million and Subaru at $68 million. According to a press release from Plaintiffs' Committee for Takata Airbag Product Liability Litigation, the funds for the settlement are aimed at getting more cars with faulty airbags fixed. At the time of writing, Toyota had the greatest recall completion percentage of 31.89 percent followed by Subaru with 31.37 percent. Mazda has completed repairs on 18.16 percent of affected cars, and BMW brings up the rear with 16.48 percent completion. Some settlement funds will go to an outreach campaign to increase awareness, while other funds will be used to reimburse people for any costs accrued to get their cars fixed. These costs can include rental cars, child care, lost wages, or any other reasonable costs associated with bringing in a vehicle for repairs. Furthermore, a customer support program will be funded with settlement money to handle any additional repairs or adjustments that could become necessary in the 75,000 miles following the airbag replacement. Lawsuits against Honda, Ford and Nissan have not been settled, lawyers said. Takata inflators, which can explode with excessive force and unleash metal shrapnel inside cars and trucks, are blamed for at least 16 deaths and more than 180 injuries worldwide. The safety defect has prompted recalls worldwide of about 100 million inflators by more than a dozen major automakers. BMW 2 Series Active Tourer pulls its way onto the stage
Wed, 05 Mar 2014We know what you might be thinking: here comes another BMW with yet another kind of roofline. Only this isn't just another BMW. It's the first front-drive BMW, and the first time we've ever seen it in person.
That model, of course, is the new 2 Series Active Tourer, debuting here in Geneva as the production version of the Concept Active Tourer and the beefier Concept Active Tourer Outdoor that followed. It shares about as much with the 2 Series Coupe as a jelly donut, but takes BMW into a new market segment - that of the high-roofed hatchback (or micro-minivan, depending on your perspective) occupied by the likes of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class and Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan.
Power comes from a choice of 1.5-liter turbo three, 2.0-liter turbo four or 2.0-liter turbodiesel - but aside from the forced-induction engines what they all the versions have in common is what makes the 2 Series Active Tourer newsworthy: they all sit up front, driving the front wheels. It's an idea BMW purists might not appreciate, but one we'd all better get used to just the same.
