You are bidding on a near-perfect 2000 BMW M Roadster with a clean title.  This is my 2nd Z3 Roadster after owning a 2.8L for over 12 years.  As such, I am very familiar with the issues of the Z3 model line and have taken great pride ensuring this M Roadster is in excellent condition.  She has been garage kept under my ownership and the previous owner.

It's sad to let her go, but I have 2-other cars, a 2-year old, and a job which requires me to travel quite a lot.  I have driven her over 2,000 miles in the past year, but properly prep her for winter storage and when I'm out of town.  I hope it goes to an auto or BMW enthusiast who will take care of this roadster.

She currently has approximately 35,260 miles and is in spectacular mechanical condition.  She's 99% stock except for a radiator brass bleeder screw and a ZHP shift knob.  The Harmon Kardon Speakers, BMW Radio/CD player, power-top, power-seats, power-windows, ice-cold AC, heater, lights, windshield wipers, cruise control, etc all work without any issues.  The engine starts immediately and the exciting exhaust purr has not diminished after all these years.

The quick facts about this car:
35,260 miles
5-speed manual
Leather interior
3.2 liter in-line 6 cylinder engine (known internally to BMW and enthusiasts as the "S52" engine) that produces 240 HP and 236 lb/ft torque
Limited Slip Differential
Automatic Stability Control plus Traction (ASC+T), can be turned off
Produced on April 8, 1999
Of approximately 8,900 S52 M Roadsters (1998-2000), only 211 produced with Estoril Blue exterior, Black Interior, and Black Convertible Top combination

The body, paint, engine, and interior conditions are immaculate.

The convertible top is in excellent shape with the minor exception of the top coming free from the rear window.  Most importantly, the top is not frayed and the rear window bead is absolutely fine.

The tires are approximately 3,000 miles from new.

There are some curb rashes to 3 of 4 wheels, which is to be expected for a 13 year old car.

I have the owner's manual, all keys (2-master, 1-valet, 1-emergency), and the BMW First Aid kit.

I have the radio code - will come in extremely handy if/when you disconnect the battery!

Major issues with the Z3 model line:
Old/Leaking/Cracking cooling system - NONE, radiator, radiator hoses, expansion tank, thermostat, thermostat housing, and water pump all replaced in 2011
Rear Sub-frame separating from car - NONE, no indications of "popped" welds in the trunk and/or differential separating per my pre-purchase inspection and my quarterly visual inspections

Minor, but inconvenient issues which plagues the Z3 model line:
Broken Seat Belt guides - NONE, guides are in perfect condition
Sliding/Rocking Seats - NONE, seats do not slide/rock
Sagging Glove Box - NONE, glove box does not sag

Here's a time-line of the most recent maintenance:
Oil Changed - 2011
Oil Filter - 2011
Radiator - 2011
Radiator Hoses - 2011
Expansion Tank - 2011
Thermostat - 2011
Thermostat Housing - 2011
Water Pump - 2011
Fuel Filter - 2012
Transmission Fluid - 2012
Differential Fluid - 2012

I have over 100 high-res photos and am more than happy to share them with anyone who's interested.  Feel free to contact me for any questions you may have.

This vehicle is also listed for sale locally and may be sold prior to end of auction.

A $200 non-refundable deposit, via Cashier's Check or Money Order, is due from winning bidder within 48-hours after auction ends.  The deposit shall be credited to the full-payment, via Cashier's Check or Money Order, which is due within 7-days after auction ends.

I can help arrange a pre-purchase inspection for interested buyers, at your cost.  In addition, the winning buyer is responsible for shipping arrangements and shipping charges.

Mini Vision Next 100 concept invokes an alternate universe

Thu, Jun 16 2016

Sir Alec Issigonis, designer of the 1959 Mini, would probably find Mini's new Vision Next 100 concept amusing. The original Mini was largely an exercise in efficient packaging and clever engineering. That it was handsome, and became iconic, was more a product of its wild success than an intentional product of its exterior styling. While the Mini concept is undoubtedly cleverly packaged, it's almost purely a styling exercise, no matter what sort of futuristic connected/autonomous functionality Mini says it'll have. Mini doesn't seem able to move past the Mini as a caricature of itself. The heavy, floating roof, the vestigial round and friendly "headlamps", the oversized gauge pod. This seems very German, the inability to communicate essential brand attributes without using cliches. Mini is in a styling rut, trying to evolve the same basic styling language with each new generation, stretching it over larger hard points. The Vision Next 100 program would have been a great time to communicate to the public that Mini is more than just styling tropes: it's an attitude, a way of thinking, a connectedness to the driver. More than a badge or bug-eyed headlights. To its credit, the interior is massively decluttered. That's in part to the rear-engine layout, but more on that in a follow-up piece. The comparatively vast footwell and ultra-minimalist dash pair well with the giant windscreen. It feels light, airy, and authentic to the ideals of the originally Mini in terms of space efficiency, without being overly sentimental. Futurism is a thankless profession, and we can't take this concept literally as a vision of what the brand will be in 100 years. We can say this: it doesn't seem that Mini will be able to transcend the styling tropes that currently define Mini. Let's hope they find a way out of their rut. Google reveals Alphabet, but BMW already owns that trademark

Tue, Aug 11 2015

Google co-founder Larry Page unveiled a surprise restructuring yesterday with the announcement of Alphabet, a new company that owns Google and all of its semi-related products. Google's stock soared five percent directly after the announcement, the world was busy dissecting the meaning of alpha and bet, and things looked rosy for the new company. However, there could be one problem: BMW owns the trademark and .com domain for "Alphabet." And it doesn't want to sell, a spokesperson tells the New York Times. BMW's Alphabet provides service packages to corporations with vehicle fleets. In terms of trademark infringement, it's no problem for two companies to have the same name, as long as there's no possibility of confusion for customers. In this case, there is at least one clear connection between the two organizations: BMW is a car manufacturer and Alphabet owns Google, which has a line of self-driving cars. BMW is looking into the possibility of trademark infringement, NYT reports. As for the Alphabet domain, Google's new company has secured abc.xyz, so BMW can continue using alphabet.com without worry – except for the apparent traffic overload that hit the site after Page's announcement. Google's Alphabet has a different domain issue to tackle: China has blocked its new site, despite expansive local coverage of the restructuring, Fast Company reports. This article by Jessica Conditt originally ran on Engadget, the definitive guide to this connected life. Mini JCW Paceman vs. BMW M135i in family faceoff

Mon, 15 Apr 2013

Over the last year, we've had the chance to drive two of the most exciting hatchbacks in the BMW family - the BMW M135i and the Mini Paceman John Cooper Works - but Autocar has managed to get the two corporate cousins together for a head-to-head comparison. Just like our initial impressions of the Paceman JCW, Autocar has little to complain about this new 215-horsepower hatchback... until it begins to factor in the faster, better-mannered and similarly priced M135i.
Despite laying down an extra 100 hp and delivering a 0-60 time that is almost two seconds quicker, the M135i carries the same price tag of 29,535 pounds in the UK; US pricing for the Paceman starts at $36,200, while it still isn't even clear if the US will be getting the M135i. Even more surprising is the fact that the Paceman falls short of the M135i in regards to rear seat and cargo volume, and just barely squeaks out a win in the fuel economy department. Scroll down to watch the BMW versus Mini hot hatch battle.
