1997 Bmw 840ci Base Coupe 2-door 4.4l on 2040-cars
Tampa, Florida, United States
Condition:
This car is being sold AS IS, with no warranties, expressed or implied. Included in the sale are the original BMW 16" wheels, in addition to the BBS wheels on the car now. The tires have about 3000 miles on them. It has been well maintained and anything that went wrong with it I've had fixed or replaced. I am not a mechanic, but I use a very reputable shop here in Tampa. If you are interested and serious, I will get the records from the shop and forward them to you, or give you the contact information of the shop and you can speak with them. I believe that there are very minor scratches under the doors where rocks/debris or whatever have contacted the car from normal driving. There is a small discoloration on the driver seat about the size of a quarter, but other than that the leather looks great. I don't think the passenger electronic seat controls work that well, if at all. The little screen from the computer has some pixelation that you can see in the photos. This is common on these BMW computers and this one appears to be in better condition than others I've seen. When I bought this car, from my grandmother, about 10 years ago, I wasn't real happy with the original paint. She really didn't wax it much, or really understand paint maintenance, so I had the entire car METICULOUSLY repainted. The shop used the factory codes, and the paint is better than original when new. The paint job cost $8,700 in 2005, and it all matches the VIN. A potential buyer needs to understand that I am OCD when it comes to cars. I wasn't cheap with the maintenance, and anyone who is SERIOUSLY considering purchasing this car, I'll give you the contact info for the mechanic (who is German and owns the shop, and his own BMW 850). I am sure there are things that I am going to forget, but overall this car is beautiful. Features: Listed above. History: This car was purchased new by my grandmother. She sold it to me around 2004. I have four cars, and only a two car garage. It would be really nice if someone who really cares about cars, and loves these 8 series BMW's, would purchase it. Shipping and Payment: Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser. Payment should be made in full with a bank check. ...and yes, the mileage is correct! |

BMW M235i in circuit scrap with legendary E46 M3 CSL
Fri, 25 Apr 2014Earlier this month, we brought you news that BMW's one-year wonder, the 2011 1 Series M Coupe, is actually trading for more money today than it did when new. That sort of short-term appreciation is a major rarity with modern production cars, but apparently it's not the only BMW enthusiast coupe to enjoy far-above-average residual values. The not-for-North America 2004 M3 CSL, itself a single-year offering, apparently also fits that description, as we've just learned from Auto Express.
The M3 CSL ruled overseas BMW showrooms a decade ago, with just 1,400 examples built. Based on the well-regarded E46 M3, the rare two-door was relieved of extraneous bits for improved track work and driver fidelity, coming in at around 240 fewer pounds than a garden-variety M3. With carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic bodywork, thinner glass and a lot less sound insulation, the CSL was one of the more raucous cars of its day. Like the 1M Coupe, it was also one of the more connected cars of the era, with a retuned suspension, quicker steering, and a bit more power than its brethren.
As Auto Express points out, a good used one commands about the same money as a brand-new 2014 M235i - the closest thing BMW makes to a 1M Coupe today - which makes this video track battle an interesting new-versus-used showdown. According to AE, a well-sorted used M3 CSL will run UK consumers anywhere between £30,000 and £35,000 - roughly $50,000 to $59,000 US. That's a massive premium over the $10k-17k British buyers can expect to shell out for a comparable standard M3, similar to the story that plays out for the 1M versus lesser 1 Series variants.
Permanent erection lawsuit against BMW thrown out
Wed, 19 Mar 2014The California man who claimed that he suffered from a 20-month erection after a four-hour ride on his BMW K1100RS motorcycle (similar model pictured above) has had his case dismissed. It seems the court found his claims too hard to believe.
Henry Wolf filed a product liability lawsuit against BMW and seatmaker Corbin-Pacific in the California Superior Court in April 2012 after he claimed a motorcycle ride in September 2010 caused a long-term case of priapism from the "ridge-like" saddle design. He asked for compensation for lost wages, medical expenses and emotional distress from both companies.
Nearly two years later, according to Visor Down, Judge James J. McBride decided that the case didn't have enough supporting evidence. A urologist testified that the plaintiff had priapism, but the court rejected the testimony of a neurologist who claimed the motorcycle's vibration caused the disorder. The defendants presented testimony from the bike's former and subsequent owners. Corbin-Pacific CEO Mike Corbin also spoke in the company's defense.
Tier 1 suppliers call GM the worst OEM to work with
Mon, 12 May 2014Among automakers with a big US presence, General Motors is the worst to work for, according to a new survey from Tier 1 automotive suppliers, conducted by Planning Perspectives, Inc.
The Detroit-based manufacturer, which has been under fire following the ignition switch recall and its accompanying scandal, finished behind six other automakers with big US manufacturing operations. Suppliers had issues with trust and communications, as well as intellectual property protection. GM was also the least likely to allow suppliers to raise their prices in the face of unexpected increases in material cost, all of which contributed to 55 percent of suppliers saying their relationship with GM was "poor to very poor."
GM's cross-town competitors didn't fare much better. Chrysler finished in fifth place, ahead of GM and behind Dearborn-based Ford, which was passed for third place this year by Nissan. Toyota took the top marks, while Honda captured second place.
