Up for sale is my 2000 BMW 540i with a rare 6 speed transmission. The car is in excellent condition with all the maintenance done on time with no corners cut (99% of the receipts present). I am the second owner of the vehicle and I bought it from a guy in Ohio. In the past years it received the following maintenance: NGK iridium spark plugs, OEM fuel filter, valve cover gaskets, valley pan gasket, O2 pre-cat sensors, front wheel bearings, alternator, OEM thermostat, OEM brake pads on four corners, synthetic brake fluid, OEM struts wrapped in H&R sport springs, 35% tint all around with 50% windshield, the sound system was upgraded to MB Quart components in the front with Infinity cappas rear shelf, headlight and taillights are facelift from newer e39 with 55w ballast HID upgrade, suspension received x5 heavy duty bushings in the front control arms, m5 rear sway bar, OEM rear upper arms, new sway bar links, and heavy duty m5 engine mounts, car features a brand new SPEC stage 2 clutch kit with a UUC lightweight flywheel (no typical chatter present), rear main seal replaced, OEM master and slave cylinders, cdv-delete, short throw 545 shifter with all the bushings replaced in the shifter and linkages, m5 differential is another stand alone upgrade present adding up to the take off thrill of this immaculate and road-hungry beast. The intake is a pre-vanos large runners unit coming from a 1997 540, new OEM vent valve with all the gaskets replaced, resonator removed, Magnaflow muffler was added. 17" style 32 wheels wrapped in new 235/45 Goodyear F1 front and 265/40 Falken rear 452 ZR  rated tires. Dash cluster was replaced as a part of the BMW Goodwill program so none of the pixels are missing there, but the radio could use a new screen, also cupholders are not very practical in this car, one piece will not function/come out in the back. In late 2009 car received a full OEM M-Tech bumper upgrade where again there were no corners cut replacing splash shields, underbody panels, etc. (work was performed by the Herring Gear BMW of Jackson MS).  ALL fluids in the rear end, engine, and transmission are replaced with the Royal Purple synthetic oil. If you are looking at this car now im sure you know what kind of car it is and what it is capable of. Vehicle is in mint shape, title in hand, my wife doesnt want it in the family anymore, too much power, so 'we' are getting an X5. I also have a carfax report on hand if you would like to see it. This vehicle has plenty of tasteful upgrades, parts replaced were either OEM or well-known quality performance brands, car is extremely fast and very fun to drive, regardless of age it is a perfect sleeper/head-turner, I will hate to see her go but its time to move on to a different vehicle. Thanks for looking and God Bless.

Car Hacking 101: Here's what motorists should know [w/video]

Tue, Feb 24 2015

Cars are nothing more than computers on wheels. As such, they're vulnerable to hackers. Most people who work within the auto industry have understood this for years, but for the broader American public not paying as close attention, three storylines emerged recently that underscored this new vehicular reality. First, German researchers found a flaw in BMWs remote-services system that allowed them to access the telematics units in vehicles. Then, a 60 Minutes report demonstrated that researchers could remotely infiltrate a Chevy Impala and override critical functions, like acceleration and braking. Finally, a US Senator released a critical report (see video above) that found almost all automakers are unprepared to handle real-time hacks of their vehicles. Those reports come on the heels of two previous instances in recent months when researchers demonstrated the capability to hack cars. All this news can be disconcerting. If you're late to the concept of car-hacking and wondering how this is possible, we've got you covered. Here's your quick primer on what you need to know. 1. How Did My Car Become A Computer? On the outside, cars haven't changed all that much over the past couple of decades years. On the inside, however, the amount of electronics and software has dramatically increased. Most new cars contain more than 50 microprocessors known as electronic control units. These ECUs control everything from airbag deployment and navigation systems to throttle control and braking, and they're usually connected to each other on an internal network called the CAN bus. 2. What Exactly Is Car Hacking? Depends who you ask. Automakers might consider anything that alters the car from its state of manufacture as a 'hack.' For example, if you're chipping the engine – re-calibrating those ECUs to increase your horsepower – some people might consider that a hack. But in the context of the recent news reports, security experts are focused on unwanted, unauthorized cyber intrusions into a vehicle. Once inside your car, prospective attacks could range from minor things like eavesdropping on conversations via an infotainment system and unlocking car doors to major concerns, like overriding driver inputs and controlling braking, steering and acceleration. 3. How Is This All Possible? Any part of the car that communicates with the outside world, either via a remote or direct connection, is a potential entry point for hackers.

BMW sets Guinness record for longest drift with new M5 [w/video]

Wed, 15 May 2013

In September of 2011, Chinese drifter Wang Qi broke the Guinness record for the world's longest sustained drift, doing 13 laps inside the Olympic Center Stadium in Tianlin, China for 5,802.3 meters. That was broken in February of this year by Abdo Feghali in Abu Dhabi drifting a new Chevrolet Camaro around a skidpad for 11,180 meters - almost seven miles. In March, BMW decided it wanted the record "back in the US," and set up a course at its BMW Performance Driving School near Greenville, South Carolina to get the job done. On May, 11 it was Mission Accomplished when Performance Center driver Johan Schwartz drifted an M5 around a skidpad continuously for 51.3 miles.
Despite that accomplishment, we're pretty sure that professional drifter Vaughn Gittin, Jr. isn't impressed. The way Guinness defines "drifting" can also describe a donut, which is effectively the kind of drifting that's been done for these last three records. BMW went even further by watering down the surface of the track, reducing the skill required and the need to change tires during the effort. On the other hand, you can't drift a car for long in a straight line, but perhaps there should be some clarification or classifications added to the milestones.
There's a short video below taken during the record-breaking run, and a press release from the company that did it.

BMW 2 Series shows us its insides

Tue, 16 Apr 2013

We've already seen the upcoming BMW 2 Series testing in both coupe and convertible body styles, and now we're getting our first glimpse inside the new entry-level coupe. Judging by the sportier exterior that we've seen in previous spy shots, this car appears to be equipped with an M-Sport package, so this is likely not what the base interior will look like.
Compared to the current 1 Series, this new coupe will have cleaner cabin design including fewer buttons on the center stack and an instrument panel with more of a dual-brow design. This car has cloth seats with what appears to be a suede-like accent trim and blue stitching, and the seat's pattern is mimicked on the door panel. The 2 Series will also have a better integrated iDrive controller that operates the widescreen display mounted atop the instrument panel in a similar fashion as what we've seen recently on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and CLA-Class.
As mentioned about the exterior, the bigger wheels, blue brake calipers, dual exhaust outlet and subtle decklid spoiler all lead us to believe that this is the M-Sport, but it isn't sporty enough - inside or out - to make us think this is the rumored M2 model.
