A bratty little barrel-racer of a car, with a spirit that seems to want to bite through the bit, the 1M Coupe is quick, playful, aggressive and laugh-out-loud fun to drive; indeed, it’s as much fun as the law will allow.

Features:

Powertrain: Twin-turbo 3.0-liter in-line six cylinder with variable valve timing; six-speed manual
transmission; rear wheel drive with variable differential lock

Horsepower/torque: 335 hp at 5,900 rpm/332 pound-feet at 1,500-4,500 rpm (369 pound-feet at
overboost)

Length/weight: 172.4 inches/3,362 pounds

Wheelbase: 104.7 inches

EPA fuel economy: 19/26 mpg, city/highway

Cargo capacity: 8 cubic feet

Number imported to North America: less than 1,000

Serene and smooth at low speeds, but with an increasingly impatient growl from the quad exhaust as the revs build, the 1M does several dynamic things particularly well. First, at corner exits, it pulls like hell, like it has deployed some magical torque spinnaker. BMW gives the 0-60 acceleration at 4.7 seconds, but the way this thing gets on the cam in second and third gear will bring a tear to your eye.

Second, it has splendid cornering grip, and the corner-to-corner transitions happen without a lot of heaving, rolling or rebound to unsettle the car or cause you to correct your line. The 1M Coupe has impeccable cornering manners, and the M Sport Seats lock you in driving position.

Third, it trail-brakes like a dream. Turn in to a corner with the brakes on and ease off the binders. The car’s rear end slides gracefully to the outside, the world swivels and now you’re looking at corner exit. Dig in the spurs, up come the revs. Hi-yo, Silbern, away!

from the date of sale or lease. Therefore, in consideration of BMW of Chattanooga selling or leasing to the undersigned a

new BMW vehicle, the undersigned purchaser or lessee represents, warrants and agrees:

1. The vehicle is leased or purchased by me for my own use within North America. I do not or intend to export the

vehicle outside North America or to transfer the vehicle to any other party.

2. The vehicle will not be exported outside of North America or transferred to any other party to export outside of

North America, either directly or indirectly, for a period of two years. I currently am not a party to an agreement to

transfer or export the vehicle within the next two years, and I do not intend to enter into any such agreement.

3. If the vehicle is exported outside of North America at any time within two years of the date of this agreement, the

that the vehicle has been exported outside of North America shall constitute prima facie and conclusive evidence of

the fact of exportation constituting a material breach of this agreement.

AS LIQUIDATED DAMAGES, BUT NOT AS A PENALTY. UPON SUCH PAYMENT, THE UNDERSIGNED SHALL BE

RELEASED FROM FURTHER LIABILITY HEREUNDER.

THE UNDERSIGNED PURCHASER OR LESSEE UNDERSTANDS AND AGREES THAT IF HE/SHE TRANSFERS THIS VEHICLE

, HE/SHE MAY REQUIRE HIS/HER TRANSFEREE TO AGRESS TO THESE TERMS, BUT THAT DOING SO WILL NOT RELIEVE

HIM/HER FROM LIABLITY TO BMW OF CHATTANOOGA HEREUNDER OR IN ANY WAY EXCUSE, AFFECT OR VARY HIS

OR HER OBLIGATIONS TO BMW OF CHATTANOOGA HEREUNDER.

This agreement and the liquidated damages provision above do not affect the rights or claims of any party, other that BMW of

Chattanooga, which may have an interest in the vehicle, whether as owner, secured party or otherwise. If BMW of Chattanooga brings any

legal actionsto enforce its rights hereunder or any provision of this agreement, the undersigned purchaser or lessee agrees that he/she shall

reimburse BMW of Chattanooga for all costs and expenses incurred by BMW of Chattanooga directly or indirectly as the result ofsuch

action, including, but not limited to reasonable attorney’s fees and costs, and the undersigned purchaser or lessee waives the right to trial by

BMW spotted testing new 5 Series Gran Turismo

Tue, Nov 3 2015

As previously reported, BMW is going ahead with a second-generation 5 Series Gran Turismo, no matter how silly the first generation of the sedan-cum-hatchback-cum-wagon may be. These are our first spy photos of that new vehicle, which is still on track for a late 2016 debut. Perhaps the best thing we can say about the next 5GT is that it won't be quite so hunchbacked. The seven images provided by our spy photographer show a car with a profile that's far more svelte than the bulbous entry on offer today. The roofline, in particular, is more aggressively raked at the rear and there's a proper, distinguished rear deck, as well. Part of what makes today's 5 Series GT look so bizarre is the combination of an almost fastback tail with a very tall decklid height. While the updated model still features that high rear – you can actually see where the beltline kicks up at the rear quarter window – the fastback styling has been softened so that it doesn't look quite so bizarre. The new Gran Turismo should also be a much better steer than the 5GT currently on offer. Our spies report that this next-gen model will be significantly lighter, which is something we can always get behind. Engine options will consist of gas, diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid, as is the trend, although specifics aren't quite available yet. Spitballing, though, it's almost a guarantee that the next 5GT will share the 5 Series sedan's engine lineup. Expect a number of carryover engines there – 2.0-liter turbo four, 3.0-liter turbo six, 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, and 3.0-liter diesel, probably – along with a plug-in hybrid option, although nothing's been confirmed so far. With an official debut slated for late next year, either Paris or Los Angeles seem like a logical debut location.

2014 BMW 4 Series

Tue, 23 Jul 2013

Because Four Is Greater Than Three
Say what you will about the name 4 Series, there is a method to BMW's madness. On one hand, it's easy enough to just buy into the logic that odd numbers are reserved for sedans and wagons, and that even numbers are reserved for coupes and convertibles. On the other hand, consider the idea that the higher numbers are used to separate the more dynamic, more engaging vehicles that use the same platform. It's that sort of separation that differentiates the 6 Series so nicely from its 5 Series roots, after all. And if we're being cynical, it also allows BMW to charge a bit more money for its lower-volume offerings.
So with the new two-door version of the 3 Series, BMW has gone the route of strengthening the dynamic virtues of its F30 chassis to create a car that's more removed from its sedan kin than one might think. And after spending some time with the new 4 Series on the roads around Lisbon, Portugal, as well as the famous Circuito do Estoril racetrack, it's increasingly clear that calling this car a 3 Series Coupe simply wouldn't be fair.

BMW hires Ferrari chief engineer Fedeli

Wed, 08 Oct 2014

There's going to be a little bit more Prancing Horse in some future BMWs because the Bavarian brand is hiring Ferrari chief engineer Roberto Fedeli to join the company in November. Fedeli's new position is still somewhat of a mystery though, and he reportedly might be lending his talents to the high performance M division or possibly even Rolls-Royce. When asked by Automotive News Europe, BMW said that it "currently can't say what his role will be."
Regardless of his new job, Fedeli was a big get for BMW because of his strong résumé. He has been with Ferrari since 1988 and led the engineering for the famous Italian automaker's vehicles since 2007. Fedeli tendered his resignation in September at around the same time that chairman Luca di Montezemolo announced his decision to leave the company. However, Ferrari told ANE that there was no connection between the two events.
