2011 Audi S4 Premium Plus with 420 HP

Up for sale is my 2011 Audi S4 Quattro all-wheel-drive.  Custom-built for the performance enthusiast, this muscle-bound brother of the A4 has most of the performance features of the Prestige Package (without the Prestige Package frills) for much less cost.  With a supercharged 3.0L V-6 engine, It also has an APR “Pulley and Tune” upgrade, which produces 87 additional horsepower over the stock 333 (using standard premium fuel), making it a 420 HP street monster.  Additional selectable tune settings allow another 20 HP using race fuel, or you can program it to the stock setting if you like.  Fast, classy, and sophisticated as only Audis can be, you will love this car as I do the moment you drive it.  Never been drag raced or abused, but make no mistake – with the upgrades, this is a 180+ mph, 12-second "Beemer Stomper" street car with staggering acceleration and amazing grip with the all-wheel-drive system.  You will never feel more confident in your car’s handling than when driving this Audi.

Color:  White, with the very rare light gray Alcantara leather seat inserts – much classier looking than the red or orange ones, and far cooler to sit in than the black ones.  Seats are also heated and cooled.

Mileage: Very low 25,000 miles, serviced by the local Audi dealership, with all maintenance and service records available.  I am the second owner.  The first owner drove it for 6000 miles then traded it back to the original dealer for a larger car.

Transmission:  7-speed auto, which is actually a dual-disc clutch transmission which Audi (and other German car manufacturers) use.  Paddle shifters and lightning-quick shifts make this car very responsive to your input.

Performance Axle/Selective Ride Control:  Optional on Premium Plus packages but very rare (standard on Prestige) permits suspension settings from Comfort to Dynamic, changing the shock settings and dampening for the days you want to cruise, or for the days you want to carve up a twisty back road. (See Console photo.)

Comfort features:  GPS/Nav system, Back-up camera, Bang & Olufsen top-of-the-line stereo (superb!) with Satellite Radio and multi-media inputs, in-car Bluetooth hands-free phone connection, Moon Roof, plus the usual stuff.

Performance Exhaust System:  Currently, the car has the stock exhaust system installed.  I have as an optional purchase your choice of two complete aftermarket exhaust systems with catalytic converters (not just “cat-back” systems), one made by APR, and one made by Borla.  (See photos of both systems, included.)  I replaced the Borla system with the one from APR as I liked the fit better and it was a bit quieter.  The Borla system adds about 20 HP to the car (440 HP total), and the APR system about 15 HP.  After installing the APR system, I decided to remove it because I wanted the car to look as stock as possible.  I WILL INSTALL THE EXHAUST OF YOUR CHOICE FOR $1000 EXTRA IF YOU BUY THE CAR.  Both are GUARANTEED to pass smog, even in CA as they are certified.  This is a GREAT deal, as the exhaust systems alone cost over $1800, plus installation.  I have a private auto shop and I can put the exhaust in easily here.  Personally, I would install the APR system – it has brand new mufflers, the exhaust “flutes” look great, and the car sounds GREAT under acceleration.

Mileage:  18 mpg all day, every day in town, easy 26 mpg on road trips at 80-85 mph.

Wheels/Tires:  Premium 5-spoke 19” wheels, and tires still have just under 50% tread.  New left front replaces original tire after hitting a truck tire tread on the freeway and sustaining a cut.

Shipping:  I can deliver to Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and SoCal in a covered trailer for a negotiated fee, or fly into Las Vegas, and I‘ll pick you up and you can drive it home!  If you need shipping further out, I will work with the transport company of your choice.

Payment: Cash or Bank Wire Transfer only – please don’t even ask about other options or trades.  Non-refundable $500 deposit required within 48 hours of purchase, balance due in 2 weeks unless we make other arrangements.

Miscellaneous:  No lowball offers, please -- this listing will auto-reject any offers below $37,000I will include the original supercharger pulley and belt (and the $300 pulley removal tool!) should you ever wish to restore the car to pure stock.   BOTH KEY FOBS are available, so you won’t have to buy any from Audi and have them programmed for a total cost of over $300 – DON’T lose them!  J

Reason for Selling:  2014 Corvette on the way!

A luxury crossover for people who like to drive | 2018 Audi Q5 First Drive

Fri, Oct 7 2016

1.6 million. That's how many Q5s Audi has sold since the model's 2008 debut, making the agreeable but stylistically neutral sport-ute the best-selling premium SUV on the planet. One in four Audis sold is a Q5, which is a big part of why the German carmaker made significant improvements intended to ensure the 2018 Audi Q5 is another success story. For starters, the Q5 has swollen in size. Not by much – we're talking 1.3 inches in length, half an inch in wheelbase, and incrementally more height – but enough to boost rear legroom by 0.39 inch and add 0.31 inch to rear headroom. If you're worried that curb weight has bloated in direct proportion to the larger footprint, fear not: The 2018 model is actually up to 198 pounds lighter than the model it replaces, thanks to a carefully modulated blend of high tensile steels and aluminum in the chassis, and incremental weight savings throughout. Two turbocharged engines are available: the Q5's 2.0-liter TFSI engine producing 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque (doing the 0-to-62-mph sprint in 6.4 seconds), and the SQ5's 3.0-liter TFSI mill that turns 354 hp and 369 lb-ft (capable of whisking it to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds). The 2.0-liter meets a new seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission, while the beefier 3.0-liter gets a conventional eight-speed torque-converter-equipped gearbox to handle the higher torque. Audi's new Quattro ultra setup (already seen in the A4 and Q7) offers fully variable torque distribution that helps achieve 20/27 mpg with the 2.0-liter and 18/26 mpg for the 3.0-liter. The system can de-couple the rear axle via an electronic clutch, which improves fuel economy; with 100 percent of torque directed to the front wheels during straight-line driving, the parasitic losses of running power needlessly through the rear differential are avoided, while a second clutch controls front/rear torque distribution. Audi says the ultra setup works proactively, not reactively, using torque vectoring to distribute power and anticipating changes in vehicle dynamics 500 milliseconds before the torque is redistributed. While there are numerous tech updates under the skin, the body itself is very familiar. In person, the Q5's looks are tweaked ever-so-slightly thanks primarily to a curvier, crisper character line that is so sharp, it casts its own shadow under certain lighting conditions. Inside, a Q7-like upgrade gives the cabin a more sophisticated feel.

Audi A5 and S5 freshen up for 2017

Fri, Jun 3 2016

UPDATE: A previous version of this story mischaracterized the 2017 S5's engine configuration. The article has been updated. Well, here's the new Audi A5 and S5. They look a lot like the old ones, but just a tiny bit better. In other words, the redesigned coupes received the same treatment as their four-door counterparts, the A4 and S4. While the German press materials mention both gas and diesel engines, we expect the A5 to carry on in the US with petrol power only. Like the current A5, a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder will serve as the base engine, but will probably get a similar power bump as the A4 – Audi hasn't released official figures yet. The four-door had its base output bumped from 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque to 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The S5 is a more interesting proposition than the S4. Where the old S5's 3.0-liter, supercharged V6 produced 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, the new, turbocharged, 3.0-liter six-cylinder pumps out 354 ponies, according to the global press materials. That figure, fans of the old 4.2-liter V8-powered S5 will note, is identical to the original S5 that came out for model-year 2008. Torque figures aren't available yet, but we'd bet on at least a small increase in torque. Still, the increase in power is good for a 4.7-second run to 62 miles per hour, a 0.2-second improvement over the current car's 0-60 time. Audi claims it will offer the A5 with both six-speed manuals and seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions, but we wouldn't be so sure about that stick here in the US. The only available gearbox on the A4 is a seven-speed S-Tronic – coupes are inherently more sporting than sedans, but we aren't sure that's justification for Audi to offer a manual-trans A5 here in the US. Audi only mentions an eight-speed automatic for the S5. So no, the German press materials aren't a good indicator of the US-market A5. What we can rely on, of course, are the official images. The original A5/S5 was a handsome car, but Audi's designers have done a swell job styling the 2017 model. It looks good, and is somehow even more refined than last year's car. Audi's new corporate grille works well on a coupe body, although the powerful creases in the hood might be a little too powerful. The tail is lovely, like a prettier A3. The bodies are better looking, but they're also lighter and more aerodynamic, too. The A5's coefficient of drag is down to a slippery 0.25, while Audi's engineers lipo'd 132 pounds of fat.

Audi looks at the future of transportation for Ender's Game film

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

The forthcoming science-fiction movie Ender's Game, starring Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley, takes place in a high-tech world. So if movie-watchers are to be fully immersed in the story, every detail counts. That's why the computer-generated special-effects company assigned to the movie, Digital Domain, enlisted the help of Audi to design a future car that would fit seamlessly in the film's world - part of its $17.2-million investment in the movie.
Audi went all out, with Head of Audi Exterior Studio 1 Frank Rimili and designer Björn Wehrli assigned to the Audi Fleet Shuttle Quattro's design, which is so thorough and cohesive that we wouldn't be surprised to see cars like it on the road three-quarters of a century down the line. Rimili doubts that, but is "absolutely sure" Audi will still be around in 2088.
Watch the making-of video below to see all of the work that went into designing a car that will never see the light of day - in the real world, that is. If you're a fan of science fiction or the novel on which the movie is based, head on over to a theater to watch Ender's Game, which opens on Friday.
