Well, if you haven't had the Alfa bug, here's a great way to get started... I'm listing this for a friend who is living a life that's too busy to raise an Alfa. These cars need love and attention, and he's smart enough to pass the baton before the car suffers.

All in all, no major issues noted, solid driver that you can drive as is or continue to improve it.

So, this auction is for a 1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate, very solid car, runs as good or better than any Spider I have driven. ( I've owned many ). Loads of money spent over past couple years at Mastro Subaru ( previous Alfa dealer for years, they still service them for a few owners ) Receipts available with purchase, so you have some history. He has spent a good deal (read that over $8000) of money on the car to get it reliable. Seller is realistic about value.

This car runs great. Fires right up and runs smoothly, very good power, no smoking or odd motor noises, excellent correct recent bolt on exhaust ( not muffler shop stuff ) Very good clutch, works smoothly. Transmission has typical lazy synchros if you try to rush a shift. If you don't rush it, the car shifts fine. Very smooth on the highway. No issues with a long drive home if you want a top down adventure. Temps, charging, etc. all good. It runs well. Brakes are strong, the rears squeak sometimes, depending on the car's mood. This is common with Spiders.

So, the low down: There is no Spider I've ever seen without needs, but it's also almost 30 years old... Newer tires, excellent seats, just redone, carpet and original floor mats-(old but serviceable), New door panels, decent cloth top with very good, new & clear rear window. Updated radio with CD, USB and Aux input. Glove box door removed, it was warped and not replaced. The lights work, directionals work, trunk lamps and reverse lamps don't. It has a/c but it's not working, like most Alfas, it was anemic when it did. Dash has a cap on it. Driver's door mirror is in poor condition, it rattles. No visors. This car needs cosmetic TLC, the paint is an older repaint and it was painted with base coat / clear coat. The clear coat has failed on the top surfaces. There is an odd spot on the hood that looks easy to deal with. The body is straight and not rusty. Trunk is solid and the spare well is solid. I would have no issue driving the car any distance. I put 40 miles on it and it was happy to be on the road. These cars love/need to be used. The car started out in Virginia and spent some time in storage in New Mexico, then made the trip to Florida via truck to be put back on the road.

Please contact me with any questions so you are clear about what you are buying. I have a good contact for a truck if you want to have it transported.

Go ahead, your significant other will forgive you eventually!!! SOLD AS IS AND WHERE IS.

Stellantis expects to hit emissions target without Tesla's help

Tue, May 4 2021

Franco-Italian carmaker Stellantis expects to achieve its European carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions targets this year without environmental credits bought from Tesla, its CEO said in an interview published on Tuesday. Stellantis was formed through the merger of France's PSA and Italy's FCA, which spent about 2 billion euros ($2.40 billion) to buy European and U.S. CO2 credits from electric vehicle maker Tesla over the 2019-2021 period. "With the electrical technology that PSA brought to Stellantis, we will autonomously meet carbon dioxide emission regulations as early as this year," Stellantis boss Carlos Tavares said in the interview with French weekly Le Point. "Thus, we will not need to call on European CO2 credits and FCA will no longer have to pool with Tesla or anyone." California-based Tesla earns credits for exceeding emissions and fuel economy standards and sells them to other automakers that fall short. European regulations require all car manufacturers to reduce CO2 emissions for private vehicles to an average of 95 grams per kilometer this year. A Stellantis spokesman said the company is in discussions with Tesla about the financial implications of the decision to stop the pooling agreement. "As a result of the combination of Groupe PSA and FCA, Stellantis will be in a position to achieve CO2 targets in Europe for 2021 without open passenger car pooling arrangements with other automakers," he added. Tesla's sales of environmental credits to rival automakers helped it to announce slightly better than expected first-quarter revenue this week. The next tightening of European regulations will soon be the subject of proposals from the European Commission. The 2030 target could be lowered to less than 43 grams/km. Scrapyard Gem: 1999 Alfa Romeo 166, Screwball Rally Edition

Sat, Mar 16 2024

SHERBURN-IN-ELMET, England — Alfa Romeo took a break from selling new cars in the United States after 1995, when the final Spider Veloces and 164s were sold here. That beat Fiat and Lancia (both of which departed after 1982), but still deprived us of the Alfa 164's handsome successor: the 166. The easiest way to find discarded 166s is to cross the Atlantic, so that's what I did recently. I've been spending a lot of time in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in recent years, being the descendant of immigrants from that tiny but proud nation, and there are still quite a few 166s prowling the streets of Luxembourg City. Despite their reputation for unreliability and horrifically rapid depreciation, the 166 looks so good that I remain tempted to ship one home. The facelifted model in the photo above had its debut as a 2003 model and thus won't be legal in the United States until 2028, but the first-year '99s shouldn't raise any U.S. Customs eyebrows when you pick one up at your local port. I was hoping to shoot plenty of interesting Italian iron during my trip to the scrapyards of Yorkshire in January, so I headed over to Sherburn Motor Spares, located on the very land in Sherburn-in-Elmet where the famous Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers of Bismarck-crippling fame were built. This yard specialises in Italian and French cars; it's what we'd call a dismantler in the United States, so customers aren't allowed to pull their own parts unless they get permission beforehand. There's a nice little breakfast joint located just out front, which was welcome on a below-freezing Yorkshire morning, and the employees are very friendly (though a bit difficult to understand if you come from anywhere else in the English-speaking world). Inside, you'll find plenty of Alfa Romeos, Fiats, Peugeots, Citroens, Renaults and even a few Toyota MR2s; I spotted an extremely rare Alfa Romeo Brera S, which was one of a mere 500 built. Cars rust quickly and inspections are rigorous in England, so I didn't see many machines built prior to our current century. Well back in one of the rows, however, was this first-year 166 done up in some kind of racing livery. The cars were packed and stacked so closely that I wasn't able to get great photos of this car, but Sherburn Motor Spares has included some pre-stacking photos in their eBay store.

On Broughams and Alfas | Autoblog Podcast #501

Fri, Jan 27 2017

On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman discuss the odd history of the oft-recycled Brougham name. (Did you know some people pronounce it "broom" and they're not wrong?) There is of course discussion of what they've been driving lately, and things wrap up with Spend My (Your) Money buying advice to help you, our dear listeners. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And if you have other questions or comments, please send those too. Autoblog Podcast #501 The video meant to be presented here is no longer available. Sorry for the inconvenience.
