1991 Acura Nsx - 38,440 Miles on 2040-cars
Nashville, Tennessee, United States
|
History of my NSX: I originally purchased the car in 1996, and it had 14,055 miles on it at the time. It currently has 38,440 miles. In my years of ownership, the car has never been in the rain. I put it on jack stands or on a lift every year and completely detail the chassis. It truly is one of the nicest early hardtop NSX's in the country.
Paperwork and Service Records: I have all the paperwork for the car back to when it was sold new, including the window sticker, the drive out temporary tag, and every service record and receipt since 1991. They are all housed in a three ring binder in laminated sheets. Recent maintenance in the past 1000 miles includes the following: -Synthetic oil changes (two times) -Flushed the brake system and replaced the fluid with ATE Super Blue DOT4 -Replaced the timing belt, water pump, all accessory belts, valve cover gaskets, spark plug seals, oil cooler hoses and all 22 coolant hoses -During the timing belt service, it was noticed that the clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder were slightly leaking, so they were both replaced. -Valves adjusted The NSX tech who has worked on my car since 2001 is Barney Demonbreun (aka Barnman on NSX Prime). He is considered by many as one of the top NSX technicians in the country.
Modifications: The OEM exhaust has been changed to a Taitec GT Lightweight exhaust, which has a fabulous deep sound to it . The wheels have been replaced with a set of staggered Enkei PF01's (17" front and 18" rear) and they have a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 tires on them (approx. 9/32" tread depth remaining). The shocks have been replaced with Bilsteins, and have been set on the lower perch, which lowers the car approx. 1 inch. In addition, my car has a reusable Uni foam air filter rather than a stock paper filter. I have the original exhaust, original wheels and original shocks, and they also go with the car. In addition to the original parts I've just outlined, I have the original factory NSX car cover and storage bag, as well as an NSX front nose bra that's been used just one time.
If you are looking for a pristine, low mileage, fanatically maintained, never abused NSX, you won't finder one nicer anywhere. I've owned 108 weekend "toys" like my NSX over the 27 years of my marriage. I have done frame off restorations on a number of '60's and early '70's muscle cars to national award winning levels. My NSX is every bit as nice as those fully restored show cars I've owned.

Acura announces NSX GT3 Evo22 race car will live on
Thu, Aug 5 2021The Acura NSX may be winding down production in 2022, but it still has some life left on the track. Today, Acura announced that it will introduce a new version of its NSX GT3 race car. It features a slew of improvements that should make the platform more competitive. Called the NSX GT3 Evo22, it builds upon the existing NSX GT3 a car that has won multiple championships in IMSA, SRO and Japan's SuperGT. The Evo22 gets improved intercoolers for the 3.5-liter twin-turbo shared with the road car, allowing it to perform consistently in a wider range of conditions and locations. Underneath, the suspension earns some tweaks in revised spring rates and geometry adjustments. To improve the car for endurance racing, the Evo22 reduces pit time with larger fluid tanks, while a revised wheel system allows for quicker tire changes. An FIA-mandated rain light illuminates the rear. Acura will also offer several air conditioning and headlight options. As with the outgoing NSX GT3, the Evo22 eschews the road car's hybrid and all-wheel-drive systems. Instead, it employs an XTRAC semi-automatic six-speed sequential transmission to send power to the rear wheels. Both the race and road car, however, share the same specs for the engine block, heads, valvetrain, crankshaft, pistons, and dry-sump lubrication system. The motors and chassis are both built at Acura's Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio, while final assembly for the GT3 takes place in Milan, Italy. While European GT3s are supported from Italy, Honda Performance Division in Southern California will support North American teams. The NSX GT3 is the defending IMSA GTD and SRO GT Manufacturers’ Champion, and has achieved 25 IMSA and SRO class wins since its North American introduction in 2017. Interestingly, Acura says the the NSX GT3 is homologated globally through 2024. So, while new road cars won't be produced after next year, you'll still see them representing the "A" calipers at the track beyond that.
Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating
Mon, Aug 6 2018Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.
Acura Precision EV Concept teased ahead of Monterey reveal
Thu, Aug 11 2022Acura is getting ready to to unveil a new all-electric concept to showcase the brand's design language as it enters the age of electrification. A brief teaser video providing a glimpse of the car was released today accompanied by precious little information, but we can still glean a few tidbits. The name, Acura Precision EV Concept, offers the first clue. Acura has applied the name "Precision" to flagship concepts in the past. The stunning 2016 Precision Concept was also said to define a new design language for the brand. It became a template for cars like the RDX and MDX, but it most resembled the sharp-looking TLX sedan that debuted in 2020 for the 2021 model year. In the intervening years, luxury marques have become far more likely to introduce an electrified crossover as a flagship than an internal combustion sedan. The Precision EV concept seems to fit that mold. From the video, we can see that the vehicle will have a rather tall section of black cladding below the "grille" area, as well as some contouring above the wheel wells. This suggests it's quite likely an SUV rather than a low-slung sedan. The would-be grille area now projects an illuminated Acura logo. The formerly high relief diamond shapes converging on the central emblem are now distinct lighting elements, with the same pattern repeated in a lower fog lamp areas on either side of the nose. Acura's signature jewel-eye headlights with chicane DRLs are now slimmer and wider, meeting the grille area at the inner points. So, what is it? Quite likely, we'll soon see a preview of Acura's upscale version of the Honda Prologue, an EV collab with General Motors. Riding on GM's Ultium battery platform that will underpin Cadillac Lyriq, Honda has announced that the Prologue will spawn an Acura as well. Finally, thanks to unearthed trademark filings, we are led to believe that it will be named the Acura ADX. Whatever it's called, it's not expected to hit the roads until the 2024 model year. That fits with the Precision EV Concept's August 18 unveiling at this month's Monterey Car Week festivities. Related video:
