Do Not go // Please read below
I have been a client of Tassi fo the last 12 months
We have 3 cars, 1 WW and 2 Audis.
We have spent more than $8k as I have found out that their mechanics are good.
That said, my last experience was worst that I could have ever imagined.
On my way to pick up the car, I have signed my last check ($200) and have asked Duncan (reception guy)what I believe was a reasonable request : to do a 360 on the car, kn... view moreowing that I have spent more than $3k in the last 4 weeks (on 3 cars). Duncan told me they do not provide this service unless it was specifically asked by the client.
Then we have started to argue, finally he gave me 5 seconds to leave ""his"" shop otherwise...
Basiccaly he was physically threatened me and my ....2 years old son.
So I took the key and asked for my car...
...That I could not find...So my son and I had to wait/walk UNDER the RAIN for more than 5 long min to finally find it with the help of the 2 mechanics guys (200 yards away)......

No comment. I just hope this experience will never happen again to any of their client.

Lackluster work, Charged for parts not installed.
I have taken my car to Tassi several times, and ALWAYS had to return because something was not done, or not done right. I attributed this to their friendly, relaxed ethic. Inconvenient, but not unforgivable. They are friendly and the only place in town that really works on old VWs.

That changed recently when my ""new"" brake system (over $1300) began to fail. As it turns out, several major components that I ... view morewas charged for (both parts and labor) were never actually replaced, including the heart of the system, the master cylinder. Upon further inspection, I also found at least one other part I`d paid for previously that had not been changed, yet I had paid for. Luckily, I have since found a buddy who`s excellent with VWs and has corrected all the problems that Tassi was supposed to have.
I`m not an idiot. I know a lot about these little cars, but I don`t have the time or place to do my own work, being an apartment dweller in the city. Looking back on how I was spoken to, I can tell now that they just assumed I`d never find out or know the difference.
Long and short, I`ll never, EVER take my business there again. The lackluster work was one thing, but the rest was a safety issue and simple, blatant theft.
I don`t mind paying for good quality work, and that`s not what I got.
Advice: Have someone else you trust double check everything. That`s the sad thing; we pay THEM to know about the cars and do the work.

Air cooled VW`s only
Nice people but unfortunately not very good mechanics. I took my Corrado there to diagnose poor engine performance, a battery drain, and an oil leak.

Engine performance: They changed the distributor, spark plug wires, and spark plugs, even though I told them I had just changed the spark plugs. There was no change to the engine.

Battery drain: They said there was a short in the driver`s door and that t... view morehe aux H20 pump was seized. They changed the pump and ""fixed"" the short in the door. The battery still goes dead after 8 hours and after they worked in the door the window would not go down all the way because it was blocked by wires they moved and the power mirrors didn`t work because they left the connector off.

Oil leak: They changed a seal but the engine still leaks oil.

0 for 3. They may be okay with air-cooled VW but I wouldn`t bring anything newer than a 1980 car to them.

best avoided
5/06 i brought my vw beetle to tassi`s for a tuneup and a clutch adjustment (on a new clutch) and it was reported that the car needed another new clutch...why, if a new clutch was just installed, i asked...perhaps it was a faulty clutch was the answer...so in went another new clutch ...by 6/15 the car developed a major clutch chatter so back i went and it was determined more clutch work/ parts were necessary...back o... view moren 6/22 w/ still the same symptoms, and more clutch work/parts AGAIN it was determined were necessary....within a month and a half total charges were a shy 1000.00...bills parts lists indicate cross shaft replaced twice, in addition to all other related new clutch parts...8/06 clutch cable snaps....12/06 clutch goes again altogether...not even 3000 miles since clutch was replaced...tassi`s response when asked if the clutch was under warranty...tow it here and lemme see it...gotta make sure you weren`t an abusive driver on those hills in sf...these guys in my experience are mechanics who would best be avoided...
in closing, altho the ratings for this review indicate an affirmative response for helpful staff, convenient hours, and low prices, this is apparently due to some type of flaw in the web design, as i rated these aspects with a negative as well...

They don`t try to rip women off
I love Tassi. Not only is it next door to BART (great for when you drop off your car), but they are really very friendly and not at all salesy. The prices are really great. And they don`t talk down to women or try to make you feel dumb. I`ve never walked (or driven) away from there feeling ripped off. I`ve been going to them for a few years now. I have a 1960 beetle, and they keep it running. A couple of times I drov... view moree off and they didn`t really fix everything they said they would, but I drove it right back, they apologized and then fixed it on the house. So they are a little bit scattered, extremely busy, but always very honest and super nice. I highly recommend Tassi!

these guys do a good job, and are entertaining to talk to, but the follow up was a little dicey. I had to call back several times to find out when my car would be done - they were swamped though. Shop is only a couple of blocks form the Colma BART station. I`ll be back.

Very Good Overall
Tassi has very good prices for their services and the guys who work there are all very knowledgeable and friendly. The one negative is that I had to return to Tassi so they could fix a problem THEY had caused and was made to pay for it. But they do know what they are doing when it comes to Volkswagens so if I have another problem I will go back.
