This is a no reserve auction for a 1977 Porsche 924 Martini & Rossi edition. Approximately 3000 of the cars were produced to commemorate Porsche’s racing victories in the previous years with a plaque on the center console of the car to this end. This particular car was originally sold in Portland Oregon in 1977 and then purchased by the previous owner in 1978 and brought back to Seattle Washington where it spent the remainder of it’s life until I purchased the car last year and brought it back home to Portland. Exterior and Body: The body is in decent condition for a car of this age. There is no major rust anywhere to be found although there are some dings and touchups that have been done over the years. It looks to have been repainted at some point in its original color. As can be seen in the photos, the front valence is worn and there are some rock chips on the hood where there is some minor surface rust. Interior: The interior is all original down to the Blaupunkt 8-track tape player and is in fantastic condition. The seats and carpet still have a deep red hue and look great. The original leather steering wheel is still with the car as well. The dash is cracked in places as can be seen in the photos but other than that it looks almost new. Mechanical: The car runs, drives, stops, and shifts through all the gears. I drive the car on the weekends and have not had any issues. There are no fluid leaks since replacing the oil pan gasket, no smoke, and the car starts right up. Since picking up the car I had the following done by an independent Porsche shop. Replaced oil pan gasket, oil filter, fuel filter, and oil change. Replaced Timing belt and tensioner. Replaced engine mounts with new ones from vibra-technics. Replaced headlamp relay and switches so headlights are now fully functioning. New Toyo tires all around. Everything works on the car other than the odometer which stopped at 102892 miles. The previous owner guessed that about 20000 miles were put on since then but I cannot verify so mileage is unknown. Other: The car has had the EGR equipment disabled or removed. The buyer must do due diligence to understand the emissions requirements for their state. The car passed Oregon emissions and has current tags good through November 2015. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements. The car is located in Portland Oregon. This is a 37 year old car and has not undergone any type of complete restoration either mechanical or cosmetic. The car is being sold As Is. I have a clean and clear title for the car and original manuals. A 500 dollar deposit is due within 24 hours of the auction end and the balance is due within
This is a nice original example of this edition and an interesting part of Porsche’s history. Good luck and happy bidding. |

2014 Porsche Panamera Diesel is something to torque about
Tue, 10 Sep 2013Porsche has been in the business of slaying sacred cows for the better part of a decade, from venturing into the SUV space with the Cayenne to the four-door realm with its Panamera hatchback. And if those vehicles didn't leave brand purists apoplectic enough, Porsche has been adding diesel and hybrid power to its portfolio, thought to this point, neither alt-fuel motivator has made its way into the brand's sports car lineup.
Today's Frankfurt Motor Show effectively marks the second-generation of diesel power in the Panamera, and this updated 3.0-liter V6 features 300 horsepower (50 ponies more than last year) and a whopping 479 pound-feet of torque, available from 2,500 rpm. That power is achieved with a new higher-pressure, water-cooled turbo and redesigned engine internals that include a new crankshaft and pistons. The newfound increase is said to raise top speed to 161 miles per hour from 152, and drop the car's 0-62 mph time from 6.8 seconds down to 6.0. It also figures to be a better handler, with a new torque-vectoring rear differential borrowed from its gas-powered brethren and a reworked transmission for crisper shifts. The suspension has also been retuned, along with the updated 2014 visuals first revealed at April's Shanghai Motor Show.
No word yet on the North American sales prospects of this diesel Panamera, but we imagine that depends in part on how well the Cayenne diesel is selling.
2014 Porsche 911 Targa
Tue, 15 Apr 2014I've watched the electro-hydraulic roof panel open and close about 73 times in the past hour, but its fascinatingly complicated operation still has me mesmerized. I've concluded that only a German automaker - Porsche, to be more specific - would go through the trouble of engineering a roof system that essentially lifts the entire greenhouse off a vehicle, rearranges its components like a sliding-tile puzzle, and then reassembles all of them seamlessly (sans roof panel) to accurately recreate one of its most famed bodystyles.
The 2014 Porsche 911 Targa is a near-perfect modern interpretation of the automaker's 1965 911 Targa, a semi-convertible bodystyle that represents nearly 13 percent of all 911 models sold since production started 50 years ago. While the early car's roof was purely manual in operation - that's the period-correct way of saying that the driver did all of the muscle work - today's Targa is a completely automated transformation that requires only that the driver hold down a cabin-mounted switch for a mere 19 seconds to let the captivating show run its course.
After studying the Targa's elaborate roof operation at its launch at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, I was sufficiently intrigued. To that end, I traveled one-third of the way around the planet to southern Italy, hoping that the Mediterranean climate would reveal a bit more about the reintroduction of the automaker's iconic sports car.
Porsche CEO hints at Macan GTS, expects brand sales growth to 200K+
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Porsche is expecting big things from its little Macan, with CEO Matthias Mueller announcing that not only is a sportier GTS model being considered, but that the CUV will almost certainly help push Porsche beyond its 200,000-unit-per-year sales goal three years earlier than expected.
"We're transferring the genes of the Porsche brand into a new market segment," Mueller said during a speech to kick off Macan production, according to Automotive News Europe. Macan demand should push the brand past 200,000 sales, Mueller said, confirming what we reported back in August. And if Porsche really has a hit on its hands, it is able to boost production of the sporty crossover beyond its initial capacity of 50,000 units, according to the brand's CEO.
Provided that the Macan is the success Porsche hopes it will be, Mueller hinted that the range could expand beyond the initial Macan S and Macan Turbo. "GTS versions have a tradition at Porsche," Mueller said. "We haven't made a final decision yet regarding the Macan, but I'm sure it makes a lot of sense."
