This is the perfect commuter car.   Very roomy as well - easily fits 5 adults.  The battery range depends on outside temperature, average driving speed, etc.   I drive 75 MPH on the freeways which gives me a range of 50 miles or so.  When driving more slowly in city traffic or around town - range is 70 miles or so.   The car can be charged using a 120V J1772 charger that is included and stored in the trunk.   You can also charge at many public J1772 charging facilities including shopping malls such as Fashion Island, South Coast Plaza, UCI, etc and more locations are on the way.  To charge more quickly, you can install a J1772 240V charger in your garage.  This car was purchased new in June 2011.  It has a CA Carpool sticker valid through 2015 allowing you to drive alone in the carpool lanes.    There is virtually no maintenance required, other than tires and brakes.   It had only one visit at the Nissan Dealer at 15,000 miles and the bill was $22.  It is nicely equipped with Navigation, Bluetooth, AC, power windows, cloth seats, etc.  This is a very high tech car which even has an iPhone app.  (the app can turn on AC, heat, charger, etc remotely which is nice when leaving your car in the sun while shopping or at work.

In addition, I purchased a 5 year or 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty which I can transfer to the new owner.

The car is in virtually perfect condition.   The tires are worn and will need replacement soon.    There is a very slight nick on the windshield which is barely noticeable.  The car looks great!

Nissan gives us the business on the art of clay modeling

Sat, 06 Apr 2013

The team from The Dashboard recently stopped by the Nissan Technical Center in Japan for a look at what exactly goes into creating a full-scale clay model. While automakers have been using clay bucks for decades, designers and engineers are now combining computer renderings and hand-sculpted clay models to determine how a new vehicle will look in our world. Engineers use specially formulated clay kept warm in an oven to bring the body panels to life. They then coat the clay in a thin plastic film to add body color for the final look.
By the time everything is said and done, workers may have hundreds of hours in the model's creation. So, what happens when the company no longer needs the buck? They get scrapped. Someone comes in and dismantles the whole creation. We presume that action is set to the wailing tears of everyone who had a hand in building the model. Check out the video below for a closer look.

Nissan Canada kills Cube, is US next?

Mon, 12 May 2014

Canadians, say goodbye to the quirky Nissan Cube. In fact, it's too late; it's already gone. The question now becomes whether the boxy model gets the axe in the US as well.
Nissan didn't exactly publicize the Cube's Canadian retirement. An Autos.ca reader noticed that the vehicle was no longer listed on the automaker's official site in the Great White North. He tweeted the company about it and was told, "Yes, the Nissan Cube has been discontinued in Canada."
The news certainly makes you wonder what the future for the model is in the US. The Cube isn't exactly a hot seller here, either. According to Nissan's last sales results, it sold just 356 units in April, down 23.9 percent from a year ago, and 1,604 vehicles from January to April, down 33.7 percent. Annual sales were as high as 23,000 units in 2010, but they started dipping as early as 2011.

Will Nissan's Cummins deal upset Ram's marketing mojo? [w/poll]

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

Ram has used Cummins engines in its heavy duty trucks since 1989, and it is the only pickup truck brand to use products from the Indiana-based engine maker. With the announcement that the next Nissan Titan will also use a Cummins powerplant, and a Nissan spokesman having already said "We will definitely leverage the Cummins brand name," a piece in Automotive News wonders whether the deal will affect the way Ram markets its tie-up with Cummins.
The question really is, how intense is this competition? While it is the first time that trucks from two different brands have used Cummins engines, they'll be two different engines in two different kinds of trucks; Nissan is going to put a 5.0-liter turbodiesel in a non-heavy-duty Titan, Ram only uses its 6.7-liter, inline six-cylinder turbodiesel in heavy-duty offerings. The diesel that Ram will offer in its light-duty, half-ton 1500 is a 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque - compared to about 300 hp and 550 lb-ft expected from the Titan's Cummins - and its marketing so far has focused on the fuel economy gains.
If Nissan was going to prove its commitment to the segment, it had to do something compelling. If we're talking about sales competition between Ram and Nissan, Ram has sold 201,633 trucks as of July this year, up 24.2 percent, 31,314 of those sales coming last month; Nissan has sold 10,020 Titans through the end of July, down 21.1 percent, and just 1,168 in July itself. Nissan's new truck boss - who hopped there from Ram - said that buyers have asked for a powerful turbodiesel in something other than a heavy duty pickup, and from what we've read on various comment boards, the pickup truck crowd is excited about Nissan's move.
