Today I am listing my 70 Monte Carlo Sport Coupe. Born in Los Angeles & sold to original owner in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Car came with protecto-plate & I decoded it as follows: (A) Sport Coupe, 1970, Los Angeles #204762. (B) Carb Sorce- Carter. (C) Engine # 350cu in, 300 HP Tanawanda W/TH350 Auto.
(D) Axle #2.73 built June 18th in Buffalo NY. (E) Build Month-July. (F) Trans # Toledo, August 23, Day Shift ( This made no sense to me)?? Thought it was neat to decode so there you have it.
Story of car, Husband & wife bought new, rarely drove, husband croaks, car to big for wife to drive, parked. Parked under an added on roof (not a garage) for over 20 years! Arizona heat kills interior, cracks paint. Friend of family sells car to guy in Michigan. Guy wants to restore, parks & garage (covered) yeaaaaay, never restores car. Car sits 3 more years, decides to sell car.
I buy car & tear down. I knew car was an Arizona car & we all know that that's a good thing, but I never expected it to be THIS GOOD! After removing the entire interior (minus lower dash assembly) I discovered a brand new car! Not new as in replaced but new as in when originally built new! Not even a trace of surface rust discovered! Any where! As this, too, is what I have discovered throughout the entire car!
Here is what work I, myself, have completed:
New interior from head liner to carpet. All new sound proofing/insulation. Seat upholstery (that was a bi#@h) but turned out beautiful! Upper door panels front & rear (lower sections are still original panels!) Rear deck shelf, sail panels, windlace, dash pad ( dash has new harness, lights & printed circuit installed too). Original front seat belts in place! Did not put shoulder belts back in because I just couldn't poke the holes in the headliner.
New windshield. ( Yep, that was my bad.)
Every piece of weatherstrip from front to back of car. Installed a new, Retro Groove Radio with an AUX cable to plug into personal media. NOS (new old stock ) MOON tach from the late 60's & New vintage gauges, all work great & look really cool! Gauges kind of block the heater but I liked the placement & look & no problem working the heater switches. ( A/C was removed from car - the correct way- & all heater & defrost functions work. Off or high setting only, no resistor for low & medium fan).
On to the engine. Ran great when I drove her home from Michigan, purred like a kitty. All that room under that big a$$ hood I thought...... Lets make her stronger!!!
ProComp aluminum heads : 2.05 intakes & 1.60 exhausts. Yep, 2.05's, not a type O, not 2.02's. Aluminum roller rockers, Lunati VooDoo cam, dbl roller chain, fabricated aluminum valve covers, Edelbrock aluminum Air Gap, Holley 650 spreadbore with electric choke, ProComp distributor & 60K coil & 10mm wires.
Flowtech afterburner ceramic coated headers & 2-1/2 american thunder exhaust into flow master 40 series mufflers. Oh yeah, she sounds wicked. Great thump from cam at idle & screams at 5K RPM!
Performance fuel pump, a vintage AC Delco chrome fuel filter ( gonna miss that) new hoses, lines, & belts through out. Aluminum radiator with 2 electric fans which are all automatic. Trans cooler. All new aluminum pulleys too.
All wire harnesses from firewall to headlights, oh yeah, headlights are new too! So are every bulb on the car!
Master cylinder, power booster, switch, hoses & brakes are new. Next!
Front upper/lower tubed control arms, springs, shocks ( really cool NOS delco oil filled HD shocks ) ball joints, bushings, pitman arm, center link, sway bar links.
Rear lower tubed control arms ( have new rear uppers just not installed - come with car of coarse ) 1" rear sway bar, springs & shocks ( also nos Delcos).
Cooper Cobra Radial tires. 235/70/15.
Everything is done except for her paint. I lost my paint & body guy so that didnt get done. But hey, if it did, car would be ALOT more $$!!!!!
Paint actually looks great..... From 25 feet away. The Arizona heat took its toll on her. Not faded because it wasn't kept in direct sun but cracked & chipped from just sitting there.
All that on her original, rust free, straight & narrow steel!!!
New paint & you will really have pretty much a brand new 1970 Monte.
OK, i've said enough. See the pictures & decide for your self. She runs & drives amazing. You wont be disappointed.
Clear & ready title & 2 sets of keys.
I have a lot more pictures, so please ask any questions you have have or send me your email & I will forward more pics of interests.

By the way, seat belts, jack & spare go with the car. BUT, if you want the rest of those NOS, all original GM parts for this 1970 Monte,( and ALL original parts removed, minus ac parts) your gonna have to use the BUY IT NOW feature because that's the only way they come with this car!

Business end of deal:
NO FUNNY BUSINESS!!!! YOU BID & WIN YOU FESS UP!!!
$500 deposit IMMEDIATELY from winner at auction end.
Contact me & we will figure out payments & pick up. I would like this to be done quickly, I have things I want to do & I am not a storage facility for other peoples cars.
YOU handle shipping if any. I will be more than happy to driver her onto YOUR trailer.
U.S. bidders only. Paypal for deposit & cash @ pick up. No checks what so ever! Unless I keep car until it clears!
Thank you for your time.

800k car names trademarked globally, suddenly alphanumerics seem reasonable

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

What's in a name? This cliched phrase probably gets tossed out at every marketing meeting that happens when a new car gets its nomenclature. We know the answer, though: everything. The name of a car has all the potential to make or break it with fickle customers that are more conscious than ever about what their purchases say about them.
That's giving headaches to marketing folks across the automotive industry. "It's tough. In 1985 there were about 75,000 names trademarked in the automotive space. Today there are 800,000," Chevrolet's head of marketing, Russ Clark, told Automotive News. Infiniti's president, Johan de Nysschen, echoed Clark's sentiment, saying, "The truth of the matter is, across the world, there is hardly a name or a letter that hasn't already been claimed by one car manufacturer or another. You can go through the alphabet - A, B, C and so forth - and you will quickly see that almost all available letters are taken."
What has that left automakers to do? Get creative. In the case of Infiniti, it made the controversial move to bring all of its cars' names into a new scheme, classifying them as Q#0 for cars and QX#0 for SUVs and crossovers. So the Infiniti G, which was available as the G25 and G37, is now the Q50. The FX37 and FX50 are now the QX70.

Chevy Corvette gets Valet Mode with Performance Data Recorder [w/video]

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

For the 2015-model-year, Chevrolet introduces Valet Mode for the Corvette, an enhancement to the Performance Data Recorder (PDR) already available and to your peace of mind. The PDR already captures 720p HD video with a windshield-mounted camera, records interior audio with a cabin microphone and gathers telemetry data using GPS, saving the data to an SD card in the glovebox. You can then watch your track-day antics with various information overlays on the center console screen.
Valet Mode will let you hit 'Replay' when your car gets pulled up front smelling vaguely of fricasseed clutch. Turned on by entering a four-digit code, it also locks the interior storage spaces and turns off the infotainment system. It can't be turned off until the code is re-entered. There's a press release below with more information as well as a video that explains how it works, with the obligatory dig at the 'Vette's biggest foe.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray priced from $51,995*

Fri, 26 Apr 2013

After months of speculation, Chevrolet has finally revealed the official starting price of the 2014 Corvette Stingray. The base MSRP for the 450-horsepower Stingray Coupe will be $51,995, while the Stingray Convertible will go for $56,995 (*both prices include a $995 destination fee). This means that the price increase from 2013 to 2014 is just $1,400 for the coupe and $2,395 for the convertible - pretty modest increases considering the upgrade in specifications. Of course, neither price accounts for the sort of dealer markup that might grace early C7 window stickers, especially since less than a third of all Chevrolet dealers will be allocated Corvette models to sell at the car's launch.
Now, these prices are for the base car, so if you're wondering how much a fully loaded Stingray will run, Chevy has given us a good indication of that as well. The coupe we saw on display at the Detroit Auto Show (shown above), for example, would run $73,360 including options such as the $2,800 Z51 Performance Package, $2,495 competition sport seats and the $1,795 Magnetic Ride Control option - just to name a few. Stepping up to the 3LT trim level that brings a full leather interior will run an extra $8,005 over the base price.
While $20,000 in options may seem like a lot, this "as-tested" price still has the C7 competitively priced against rival coupes like the Porsche 911 and Nissan GT-R. Speaking of price comparisons, Chevrolet also points out that the C7 Stingray Z51 costs $2,200 less than the C6 Grand Sport while delivering better acceleration (0-60 mph in less than four seconds) and improved track performance (including more than 1 g in cornering).
