1986 Volvo 240 245 Wagon Runs Drives Stops! 2 Owners, Lots Of Records! on 2040-cars
Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, United States
1986 Volvo 240 wagon. Runs Great. Inspected until October of this year (it runs out soon!). I am the second owner. Everything works except the air conditioning (needs charging) and odometer, which just stopped. Automatic transmission shifts great, a little crisp between 1-2 in cold but smooths out. No slipping, probably just needs a flush. 233,000 miles. Doesn't leak or burn any oil, no smoking, no knocks. Smoke and pet free interior. I have copies of records for the car back until about 2004 - it was bought new at Lehman Volvo in York, PA and they likely have even more in their files. Plenty of power. Needs a driver's lower seat cover. Has very little rust. One spot about 2x6" on the driver's side floor (flat area) and some rust around a the passenger floor area which Lehman "patched" with sheet metal screws. Replacement parts from Klokkerholm are about $80, and they are in the flat parts of the floor so it should be an easy weld (or use 3M panel adhesive, works just as well without a welder). The rockers are solid. It passed inspection with that so it might not be a big deal at all. Rear tire wells are solid, tail gate is solid. Has a few dings here and there, the paint is a bit faded, but overall a nice attractive ride. Clear title in my name.
I will cooperate with your shipper. I will not make shipping arrangements. If you bring a tag and insurance, you can drive the car home. It drives that well. $500 non-refundable deposit within 48 hours, pickup within 14 days of auction close. Any questions, feel free. it's listed locally so I have the right to close the sale at any time.

Volvo eying return to 100k US sales to ensure dealer profitability
Thu, 13 Feb 2014Struggling Volvo may be on a verge of a renaissance thanks to the forthcoming completion of its lauded concept car trilogy, new Drive-E engine family and much-discussed SPA modular platform. Its nascent renewal is mostly being financed by $11-billion in funding from its Chinese parent company, Geely, and if it all goes right, Volvo hopes to sell 100,000 cars a year in the States by 2016. That milestone is vital, because it would ensure Volvo's US dealer network is profitable, according to Volvo CEO Håkan Samuelsson.
In a new Ward's Auto story, Samuelsson notes that his company is launching a slate of fresh products in the coming years, including the new-to-the-US V60 wagon and mid-cycle updates for its S60 sedan and XC60 crossover. But the most important new vehicle will be the recently spied XC90 that is expected to be unveiled just before the end of this year. Samuelsson is also looking at future vehicles for the US, including replacements for the S80 and V70. The V40 is also planned for the US, but not until the next generation, according to the Volvo CEO.
Of course, it's going to take a lot to reach 100,000 US sales in three years. Volvo sold just 61,233 units here in 2013, and according to WardsAuto, Volvo hasn't sold 100,000 cars in the US since 2007. To reach its goal, Volvo's stateside business will need to grow sales by about 40 percent.
Volvo planning Golf rival, 'breathtaking' C60 coupe
Wed, 01 May 2013Despite just having refreshed nearly its entire portfolio, Volvo is still in the middle of a big product offensive. Vehicles like the C30 hatchback and C70 convertible have been given the axe, but a brand-new platform is being developed in addition to the Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) that will underpin larger vehicles. According to Automobile, this means some very interesting newcomers may be on tap for the brand.
Volvo, in collaboration with Geely, is said to be working on a new platform about the size of a Volkswagen Golf that will likely spawn both a sedan and hatchback. Automobile reports that while the automaker's new scalable architecture is quite flexible, it cannot be stretched (or rather, shrunk) to accommodate a smaller vehicle.
Instead, SPA will be used for the company's larger offerings, starting with the V40 on the small end. (Though to our eyes, the current V40 looks plenty Golf-sized to us.) A new XC40 is apparently in the works, as is an S90 flagship, and new versions of the XC60, XC90 and S60 will all be coming based on this new flexible architecture.
Volvo demos autonomous self-parking car concept
Thu, 20 Jun 2013A number of companies are developing autonomous vehicle technology - Google and Audi come to mind - but Volvo is applying its work in the area to a particular usage case: parking. The Swedish automaker has the technology up and running in a concept vehicle, which it says can be dropped off at the curb by its owner and left to its own devices to enter and navigate a car park, then find and park in an available parking spot. Volvo says the process can even be reversed when the owner is ready to go, with the car leaving the car park on its own to meet its key-holder again at the curb.
The vehicle first interacts with Vehicle 2 Infrastructure technology, which places transmitters in the road itself to inform the car (and driver) if the self-parking service is available. The driver then hops out, activates the Self Parking function on his or her smartphone and then leaves the car to do its work. The car uses sensors, all seemingly hidden from view (an advancement of its own in this field), to autonomously navigate the car park, which includes interacting and adjusting to other cars, people and objects.
The technology used here builds off of Volvo's other work in autonomous vehicle research, namely the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) project in which the company managed to create a train of four cars autonomously following a lead truck at speeds up 56 miles per hour. Volvo says the first application of its autonomous research in a production vehicle will happen at the end of 2014 with some level of autonomous steering available in the next-generation XC90.
