1972 Vw Type 3 Squareback on 2040-cars

Year:1972 Mileage:84863 Color: It has an original roof rack
Location:

Up for sale is a 1972 VW type 3 Squareback.  It is extremely clean and nearly rust free.  I don't know a ton about this car as I haven't done a thing to it but regular maintenance and I was unable to get the exact modifications list as the owner before the person I got it from did the modifications and couldn't provide a build sheet.
Here is what I know:

Engine/Trans/ drivetrain
This is a modified VW motor that runs very well. I don't know what size it is nor what has been done to it but it does move you along pretty good and is definitely, definitely not a  stock motor.
It has a 4 speed with a SCAT Short throw shifter that works and feels great.
The clutch is good, brakes are good (front disc, rear drum). The steering wheel is a very nice VW racing wheel which  appears to be detachable with a key (look at the pics).
The suspension is very nice and makes for comfortable ride. It has been lowered and sits on large, old school rims.  The tire does rub a little bit if you turn sharply.
The Engine is stamped with : 40015888

Interior
The interior is nearly mint. The engine cover is the original and works very well (no leaks into the interior) and the carpet through out is very nice.  The seats appear to be original but I think to have been reupholstered because they are tear free and look great.  The dash has one very small 1/2" gash by the front defrosting vent. The Headliner is perfect and door cards are good.  It does have speakers installed but no stereo; the last owner installed speakers but I bought it before they got to a chance to install it.  All the gauges work, e-brake works well and has a custom aluminum handle.  Even the interior light switch works!

Exterior

It has an original roof rack, with the patina look on the frame; the wood is good (could use a sanding and a few coats of lacquer) .
The trim that runs down the side has been shaved and replaced with two pin strips.

Tinted windows
The wind caught the door one day when it was parked and caused a crease in the driver door (see pics).  It could be repaired by any body shop.  Because of the crease and a few blemishes, it needs a paintjob once the door  is fixed.  The paint job is good as is  and is in decent shape otherwise, with a just a few other blemishhes.  The car is almost no rust. the floors are good, battery box and engine bay are good, body is good with the exception there is a rust bubble at the the passenger fender near the windscreen (small and you have to be looking for it to see it- See the pics).  Other than that is good to go.

It is Sold as is AS,  as it is a 41 year old car. Ask me any questions prior to bidding.  Buyer is responsible for arranging shipment and pickup.  Contact me if there are any questions, I am not a VW expert so please let me know if you need any more info from me.

$1.4B hedge fund suit against Porsche dismissed

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

Investors have canvassed courts in Europe and the US to repeatedly sue Porsche over its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen in 2008 (see here, and here and here), and they have repeatedly failed to win any cases. You can add another big loss to the tally, with Bloomberg reporting that the Stuttgart Regional Court has dismissed a 1.4-billion euro ($1.95B US) lawsuit, the decision explained by the court's assertion that the investors would have lost on their short bets even if Porsche hadn't misled them.
Examining the hedge funds' motives for stock purchases and the bets that VW share prices would fall, judge Carola Wittig said that the funds didn't base their decisions on the key bits of "misinformation," and instead were participating simply in "highly speculative and naked short selling," only to get caught out.
With other cases still pending, the continued streak of victories bodes well for Porsche's courtroom fortunes, since judges will expect new information to consider overturning precedent. If there is any new info, it could come from the potential criminal cases still outstanding against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and CFO Holger Härter, who were both indicted on charges of market manipulation.

Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.

Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.
