Rare California un-molested survivor Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. There are not many around like this one! Body is straight with no copious amounts of bondo.

Runs and drives perfectly. Not the original engine but the correct year for this car. I am I believe the 3rd owner. It was used as a daily driver before me. The speedo reads 0843, so a good guess is 110k miles on it.
Original paint in the interior. Possible light overspray on the exterior but most of it is the original paint job. Small ding in the nose but can be cleaned up
easily, fenders have dings but easily fixed, as the left headlight needs a bit of shape.

It is nearly impossible to find a Ghia of this vintage in such original condition.

Original sea blue color.

Running on 12 volts.
Original mirror re chromed.
Original steering wheel included, has cracks but can be restored.
Original door handles outside and in!!
5 out of the 6 windows all original vw glass!!
Original pans and body.. look at the photos..
Two small rust spots under the front area.
Engine runs clean and doesn't drip oil.
I have the orginal dashpad that was recovered in leather at one point, as well as one original door panel.
All the interior has been done.
West Coast Metric seat covers, carpet and new  headliner. TMI door panels.
Seat belts added to the back as well for the kiddies.
All original gauges, fuel gauge is working fine.
Speedo and clock are not working but are in excellent condition.

VW birth certificate.

I've taken it as fast as 75mph.. and she's smooth.

Don't miss this one!
They don't come around often.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.

UAW tactics called into question at VW's TN plant

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

The United Auto Workers is in hot water with some of the very workers it is trying to unionize at Volkswagen's Chattanooga assembly plant. According to The Tennessean, eight Volkswagen factory workers have filed complaints against the UAW with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming the union "misled or coerced" them into formally asking for union representation.
The UAW has instituted a major push at the Chattanooga plant to represent the 2,500 hourly laborers that build the VW Passat by using what's called a card-check process. The tactic is opposed by the National Right to Work Legal Defense foundation, the group representing the workers. The card-check process demands that a company recognize a union that obtains the signatures of more than half its workforce, according to The Tennessean. This tactic is in contrast to the more traditional route, which sees employees vote on union representation.
The workers filing the complaint claim that the UAW told them the cards merely called for a secret ballot, rather than an outright demand for union representation. Workers also allege that the UAW has made it overly difficult to reclaim their signed cards, some of which were signed so long ago that they have been rendered invalid. Although the cards can force a company's hand, federal law still allows the company to ask for a secret ballot before yielding to unionized workers.

VW launches special edition Touareg X

Tue, 03 Dec 2013

Volkswagen is no stranger to special editions, but its Touareg SUV has remained largely unspecial in terms of exclusive trims or unique packages. That's changed with the announcement of the Touareg X, a 1,000-unit run based on the V6 TDI Lux trim - mid-range diesel model, between the navigation-equipped TDI Sport and the TDI R-Line.
The already special Touareg gets 19-inch "Moab" wheels, LED taillights (to go along with its LED DRLs) and "Touareg X" badging, while all 1,000 units will be painted Moonlight Blue Pearl. Tweaks in the cabin are equally light, with a black-on-black-on-black color scheme dominating - black Vienna leather, a black headliner and piano black trim. Aluminum bits make an appearance in the form of the door sills and pedals, although that's about it.
Other than those few aesthetic tweaks, the Touareg X is equipped largely like the Touareg Lux on which it's based. That means navigation, a panoramic sunroof, power seats, LED running lights, dual-zone air conditioning and heated power seats, among other tech pieces. Pricing starts at $56,170, making for a slight bump of $1,195 over the standard Touareg Lux.
