1969 Volkswagen Westphalia Camper on 2040-cars
Wallingford, Connecticut, United States
I am selling my 1969 VW Westphalia. I have several other classic VW's and it's time to thin the heard. I owned this camper about 12 years. In all the time I owned this VW it was always stored indoors. Some of the new part are generator, shroud, battery, carburetor, steering column, breaks, motor mounts, oil screen and gaskets.
There is roughly 12k miles on a completely rebuilt transmission and roughly 17k miles on a rebuilt 1600cc engine. This camper runs excellent and can be used as a daily driver. The exterior is in great shape. There are no rips in the pop top canvas. I had the rear bumper refinished several years ago. I will admit, I am not happy with the job the body shop did on the bumper. They re-mounted it great but the paint job seemed rushed. When I purchased there was some bondo in the front end. I had it ground out and replaced with sheet metal. The interior includes a 7 gallon pump sink, icebox refrigerator, kitchenette, two closets, port o let, and storage. It sleeps two adults and one child under 60 lbs. The cabin interior was in near mint condition when I purchased. I paid a seamstress to create coverings for all mattresses, table and counter tops in an effort to add a comfortable flair and preserve history. I also have privacy shades made for both the front and back. The ceiling of this camper also contains nostalgic photographs from the early sixties to early 90's. They have all been placed there from previous owners and contain the likes of Jim Morrison, Andy Warhol, Janis Joplin and bunches more. I never had any of them authenticated but will leave it all in its home. Okay so now some of the things needed. I never finished weather stripping the driver side. The child hammock and back of driver seat have small fabric tears. One of the pop top clamps above the windshield needs to be replaced. I think that's about it. Please contact me with any questions. I will help the best I can but buyer assumes all shipping costs and arrangements. |

Volkswagen Golf voted 2013 European Car of the Year
Tue, 05 Mar 2013The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf just went on sale in Europe, but it is already off to a promising start. Announced as the Geneva Motor Show kicked off, the newest Golf was named European Car of the Year for 2013 in dominating style over cars like the Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86 twins, Volvo V40, Ford B-Max and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
According to Automotive News Europe, the MkVII Golf won handily over its rivals with a total of 414 votes. The Subaru BRZ and Toyota GT86 received 202 votes finishing in a distant second, while the Volvo V40 (189 votes), Ford B-Max (148 votes) and Mercedes-Benz A-Class (138 votes) round out the top five. The new Golf marks the third Volkswagen product to receive the prestigious award with previous cars including the MkIII Golf and the most recent iteration of the Polo.
Volkswagen reveals Beetle GSR, R-Line convertible and two special GTIs
Thu, 07 Feb 2013Volkswagen has chosen to really expand its performance-tuned portfolio at this year's Chicago Auto Show, bringing along a couple of new Beetles destined for model year 2014, as well as a pair of freshened GTI packages that you'll be able to buy almost right away.
The first, and splashiest of the Chicago goodies on the VW stand has got to be the 2014 Volkswagen Beetle GSR. Don't lose your temper, Acura Integra geeks; in this case, GSR stands for "Gelb Schwarzer Renner" or "Yellow Black Racer," and harkens back to a sport-tuned classic Beetle from the 1970s. For the 2014 iteration, the GSR gets a 210-horsepower version of VW's 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder. That engine is enough to push the Beetle to 60 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds, and up to a top speed of 130 mph.
Of course, you'll have long-since noticed the shockingly yellow-and-black livery before you stumble across the Turbo badge on the rear deck. The GSR gets 19-inch alloy wheels, 235-section tires and a tea-tray rear spoiler, but it's the paint and graphics package that will decide if this is your (lemony) cup of tea. Things don't get any subtler inside the car, either, as VW has carried the colorway through to the interior, as well. Only 3,500 Beetle GSRs will be produced, with just more than half of those going to the US - call your dealer today, Wiz Khalifa.
Bentley considering diesel engine for new SUV
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Turns out, in case you didn't know, the rich are just like regular people. They too are concerned about the environment, even when tooling around town in their super-luxurious Bentleys. So the automaker is weighing the idea of offering a diesel engine in its SUV offering, which could help satisfy customers' demands for more fuel-efficient engines.
Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Schreiber told Autoblog in a roundtable interview at the Geneva Auto Show that the automaker is researching whether or not a diesel engine makes sense for the brand. Bentley, owned by the Volkswagen Group, could in theory use a diesel engine from anywhere in the Volkswagen Group family. We at Autoblog have hopes they'll revive the V10 TDI used in the VW Touareg until 2010, but ever-stricter emissions laws would likely make that problematic.
But rich people aren't so much like us that they'll be worried about petty things like pricing. Schreiber admitted the diesel engine could be a $15,000 option, which he said customers would probably find "acceptable." Given that the cheapest Bentley today starts at $177,000, typical customers probably won't be diddling around worrying about an extra 15 grand.
