This is a good running and driving Westy van that could use a complete restoration, or just make improvements while you drive and enjoy it!  There are various dents and scrapes on the body and bumpers, and there is rust perforation in the front floor from water pooling from open windows, and one rust bubble at the lower left corner of the windshield, but there is no other rust other than light surface rust on areas where paint has worn off. The front of the vehicle has some filler which has cracked and come off in spots.

The interior is complete and functional, and the seats were recovered at some point in the past, but there are now some small tears and the driver's seat has splits.  The wood veneer is peeling in spots, and some plastic trim will need replacement.  The roof canvas is good but has water stains and a small tear near the left hinge. The passenger window does not roll down more than a few inches and needs a crank. The door panels are missing some clips.  The sliding door is hard to latch and will need adjustment or possibly replacement of the latch. The inside rear view mirror and left outside mirror are loose.  The tools are present under the passenger seat, as is the original owner's manual in fair condition. There is a replacement AM-FM CD player in the dash, as well as added oil pressure and temperature gauges that are not hooked up.  The speedometer, odometer, and gas gauge all work well, but I assume the mileage is not actual.  There are some cracks in the dash.

The engine runs well, the transmission shifts properly, and the clutch feels good. The brakes operate well.  There is an oil leak at the rear main seal that leaves a few drops of oil on the ground when parked overnight. The turn signals are not working, and the left front marker was damaged and removed.

The van was originally sold in Gardena, California, and stayed in California until 2007. It has been in Colorado and New Mexico since then.

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

Audi investing $30.3 billion through 2018 for product expansion

Sun, 29 Dec 2013

How does Audi plan to reach two million units in annual sales and pay for the 11 new models it's adding to its lineup - an expansion that may include models named SQ2, Q9 and F-Tron? By increasing its investment to 22 billion euros ($30.3 billion US) between now and 2018. That figure represents an increase of about 500 million euros over the previously planned outlay, according to a report by Automotive News, and that could be due to Audi wishing to goad the momentum that pushed it to 1.5 million annual sales two years ahead of schedule.
It's also about staving off the challenges from BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Now that BMW has been able to turn some of its attention away from its "i" series of Megacity cars, it will reportedly spend more than planned in 2014 as it continues the rollout of ten all-new vehicles and 15 new-generation vehicles through the end of next year. Mercedes, having been dropped to third in the sales race, is preparing to add 13 new cars over the next six years.
Audi's money is going into technology, into product like the next-generation TT and the Q1 and production expansions and upgrades all over the world. The expenditure represents just under a fourth of Volkswagen's 84.2 billion-euro ($115.7 US) outlay devoted to taking the number-one global automaker title away from General Motors and Toyota by 2018.

VW agrees to halt next-gen rally car development to help others stay in WRC

Sat, 22 Jun 2013

Volkswagen has petitioned the FIA to hold on to the current specifications for cars in the World Rally Championship, according to Autosport.com. The move is evidently an effort to keep as many competitors in the sport as possible, despite the fact that using the current spec racers may actually hurt Volkswagen's chances at winning. The three factory teams currently competing in the WRC are at the end of a three-year homologation cycle at the end of 2013, and new cars are expected to bow next year. But developing new racers could cost as much as $4.7 million.
That price tag would put M-Sport (which fields Ford racers) out of the WRC game for 2014 and would put Citroën participation in question as well. VW has already begun work on the next iteration of its Polo R WRC, and the hatch has nabbed four wins in six rounds this season. Now it appears that car won't bow until at least 2015. The FIA has officially agreed to freeze homologation of new WRC cars until the end of next season.
