For starters the car is a SOLID Beetle from Arizona, but does have some issues as all cars 55 years old do have. The car is driven daily as a daily driver, but will make a great restoration project. The car is pretty rust free in the common rust areas except for the battery area that has a small issue. The front end is pretty straight but has a slight bump as shown in my pictures. The spare tire still fits with no problem. The front fenders are original 1958 fenders with the head light tubes. The passenger will need some body work but still very usable. The front hood is an original four tab hood. The rear fenders are in good shape also with the snow flake tail lights. The spare tire area is in great shape with NO holes or surprises. There inner front lower fender area has no rust. The dash is in great shape with no extra holes cut out for over size radios. Heater channel and floor boards are solid except for the battery tray as mentioned. Running boards are mounted correctly. Rear quarter panels are solid with no holes. The rear deck lid is in OK condition and the rear apron is the correct “H”. The rear bumper, and shock area is solid with NO issues. The front and rear bumper are in restorable condition but have some rust. All the glass is in good usable shape. The doors open and close well with NO sag and have NO rust at the bottom that will need work. The original door panels are still on the car. Windows crank all the way up and down. Front and rear seats are all there and in good usable condition. All the electrical seems to be in good order as the head lights, parking lights, brake lights & wipers run well but the turn signals also work. The car steers well down the road and has four decent tires on original smoothie rims. Car shifts well in all four gears and reverse as it has an original split case tranny in it. Car also runs with a 40 HP engine that was rebuilt by the previous owner. The car comes with a CLEAN Ohio title in my name. I will NOT deliver the car as the lucky buyer is responsible for the pick up of the car, but I will assist and corporate with your hauler as much as I can. I have more pictures so feel free to ask. |

VW exec calls US ops a 'disaster'
Thu, 23 Jan 2014Today in the Tell Us How You Really Feel file we have Bernd Osterloh, head of Volkswagen AG's Group Works Councils and member of the company's supervisory board, labeling the company's US operations "a disaster." Why? Because Osterloh believes VW of America doesn't have the models it needs to be competitive here, hasn't been decisive enough about its plans and German higher-ups still don't understand the US market.
In truth, the top labor rep at the German conglomerate is echoing sentiments we've heard from VWoA executives for years, and there's been the same commentary from dealers: Germany doesn't pay enough attention to what the US market really wants. Even ex-VWoA CEO Stefan Jacoby, who preceded the recently departed Jonathan Browning, said early in his tenure that one of his tasks was to get his German bosses to start delivering what the US market demanded. New CEO Michael Horn is saying much the same thing seven years later, telling Sky News that it has to increase "the speed at which we bring new models to the market and innovation to the market."
Osterloh wants to get "more models" here, including a pickup truck, but we'd wonder if the economics have changed from when Jacoby said they'd need to sell 100,000 per year to make money. Osterloh also wants a decision on where the CrossBlue will be built. Although it looked as if the Chatanooga, TN plant would get the call, the Puebla, Mexico plant is still in the running because of lower operating costs. No matter what happens right now, Osterloh thinks the situation won't get better for another two years when revamped models arrive, but at least the company can start taking the steps for a better US future.
Editors' Choice: Top Five 2013 Geneva Motor Show Debuts
Fri, 08 Mar 2013We've returned from a very busy week in Switzerland, and in going back over all of our 75 stories from the Geneva Motor Show, our editors have gathered up their personal favorite debuts from the European expo.
The wonderful thing about the Geneva show is just how wide of an array of vehicles are on display - everything from funny little one-off EVs to the most exotic of supercars to, well, truly ridiculous displays of coachbuilding. And because of that, this list of our editors' favorites might not be as predictable as you think.
But we don't want to give anything away just yet. Scroll down to have a look at our team's favorites from Geneva.
Volkswagen Golf R 400 Concept is a 201-mph hot hatch
Sun, 20 Apr 2014This, friends, is what happens when you shoehorn 395 horsepower into a Golf. You get a three-door hatch that will happily scurry to 62 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph. Oh yes, we like you, Golf R 400 Concept.
As we explained in our original post, the R 400 is the long-awaited successor to bonkers Golf creations like the GTI W12 from 2007 and, more recently, the Design Vision GTI. It's powered by the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder found in a number of Volkswagen (and Audi, SEAT and Skoda) products, although it's been heavily massaged to pump out 332 pound-feet of torque along side its amplified horsepower.
Naturally, it's been lowered and now rides on 19-inch wheels. Outside of those changes, though, mums the word on suspension and chassis enhancements. While this is a bummer, the striking looks of the Golf R 400 more than make up for it.
