1966 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE

This 1966 Volkswagen Beetle is among the most sought after of all classic Beetles. This project was a FULL restoration (body off and pieced out – stripped to bare metal, primed and painted) from the floor pans up – completed Summer 2012.  Glossy paint job, finished in Pepper White (Mini Cooper, BMW) with a brown interior with black accents.

Bug has been stored in a garage since its restoration began. Every component is present and functional (headlights, brake lights, wipers, horn, etc).  My sixteen year old daughter needs a starter car, so this one needs to go to make room!

  • Aluminum backed sound deadening throughout (floors, doors, quarter panels, front wall, fire wall); you can see it in the engine compartment photos and on video).
  • New interior (TWI).
  • It has a Petronics SVDA distributor with electronic ignition (NO POINTS!)
  • Upgraded to 12 volt system (harness, fuse blocks, Bosch alternator).
  • Nippon Denso high torque starter.
  • Front disc brakes. Rebuilt rear brakes and rear seals.
  • Front height adjusters, Rear stabilizer, New shocks. Drives and handles very well.
  • 1641 cc rebuilt engine with Scat components (balanced crank, mild cam, bearings, pistons, connecting rods, push rods, oil pump).  Rebuilt dual port heads.
  •  External oil filter.
  •  Dual Kadrons from the Kaddie Shack.
  • Custom console with speakers and gauges.
  • Later model (rebuilt) 2 speed wiper motor.
  •  New Michelin Defender tires.
  • Less than 3000 miles on the car and engine since the restoration was completed.
  • Pioneer radio with blue tooth (IPod, music and smart phone).
  • The front seat belts are three point.
  • The exhaust is EMPI headers and single Quiet Pack.
  •  No chips, dings or scratches! Two small blemishes in paint; one on hood and one on left rear fender. These are minor and do not take away from the beautiful finish.

This is an excellent collectable car that was built to drive and enjoy, and it has been used as such!  I constantly receive compliments when I take it out. Car is currently registered in NC with a clear title.  See video posted on youtube.com for more detail (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj63Ah8_iyk).

VW says it has sold over 100,000 TDI diesels in America this year

Thu, 26 Dec 2013

Volkswagen Group of America has lit oil-burning fireworks to celebrate the sales of more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles in the US between its VW and Audi brands this year. According to VW, that means it is responsible for more than 75 percent of diesel-engined cars and SUVs sold here - perhaps not surprising when the two brands offer a total of 12 diesel models.
What might be surprising is that the number of diesels isn't far off the estimated sales of 90,000 battery electric vehicles and PHEVs, with 15,000 of those accounted for by the Tesla Model S, another 12,000 or so being the Toyota Prius PHEV.
VW's keen to play up the ease of making diesel part of your life, stressing that it doesn't need any change to the refueling infrastructure and that "this is a technology delivering real answers to society's concerns about fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions without compromises."

EU formally questions French government assistance of Peugeot's finance arm

Fri, 28 Dec 2012

Recently, the finance arm of PSA/Peugeot-Citroën was in such debt trouble that it was pricing itself out of the car loan market. The rates it was paying to service its debt, which was rated one step above junk, were so high that it was forced to charge car-buying customers higher rates than they could find elsewhere. This was adding to Peugeot's already impressive woes by sending revenue out the door to competitors.
Two months ago a deal was worked out with the French government whereby the state would provide 7 billion euro ($9 billion USD) in bonds to guarantee the finance arm's loans. The French government could nominate someone to join the Peugeot board, Peugeot would guarantee more French jobs, and on top of that deal, other banks would provide non-guaranteed loans. The government would take no equity stake in the car company.
Although not yet finalized, the arrangement is meant to create some breathing room for Peugeot Finance to lower its interest rates for customers, and a government-nominated board member, Louis Gallois, was recently named to Peugeot's supervisory board. The arrangement was also openly questioned by at least three competitors: Ford, Renault - which is 15-percent owned by the French government after it received state aid - and the German state of Lower Saxony, itself a 15-percent shareholder in Volkswagen.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
