Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States

           * "Classic" 1965 VW (Sunroof) Beetle *

                               "BUGS are fun...they've always been fun!"

Before you and up for bid is my 1965 VW Beetle.  The particulars of the BUG are as follows:

*  One family owned (mine) since new.  Original California bug purchased new in Fresno.  First year ownership remained in CA., then 47 years in Arizonia. Two years presently in Colorado.

*  Garaged its entire life when not being driven, great 50 year patina!

*  NO ACCIDENT history, yep...it has never been bent.

*  Solid from front to rear...guaranteed to be ZERO RUST!

*  "Survivor" condition, other than one repaint in 1985, it is completely original throughout.

*  Original 1200cc (40hp) engine, these 1200's are becoming increasingly more difficult to find.  Great compresssion, new wires and NGK plugs, distinct sound.

*  Runs & drives great!

*  Factory 4-speed, shifts perfect through the upshifts as well as reverse, good synchro's.

*  All original glass, there is a windshield chip, however, a period correct (50 yr. old) windshield will accompany the sale.

*  All new glass gasket set will accompany the sale.

*  ONLY 80,011 ACTUAL miles!

*  I removed the carpets to illustrate the rust free aspect of the pans, see (pics)

A new set (13 pieces, I believe) of black carpet(s) will accompany the sale.

*  There has never been any rust/repair to the battery provision.

*  2nd year offering for the steel sunroof car from VW...very desirable.

*  Original SAPHIRE radio...it plays.

*  All safety features, lights, directionals, wipers, horn, emergency flashers, high & low beams, etc., operate.

*   Still 6 volt

*  New battery ($95.00)

*  Operable speedometer & odometer

*  Ankle baking heat

*  Original brochure (not a reproduction) included

*  Original UNIROYAL spare

At 50 years of age, the BUG looks good and runs great, wonderful little conveyances these BUGS!  Everybody loves a BUG...everywhere it goes, it draws attention and makes people smile.

The most important aspect for one to consider if they plan to restore a BUG is rust.  Aspect negated...there is NO RUST here...

The BUG is worthy of a restoration.  Parts are inexpensive, readily available and these are among the easiest of cars to work on.  Any novice could undertake this as it would make a great individual, father/son or mother/daughter project.

You are bidding to purchase the BUG, not to be the first to "look at it".  Thank you.

Please consult with your spouse, therapist, pet or Magic 8-Ball prior to placing your bid, as I am not running a clinic for the confused.  It's a low dough car...one that shouldn't require permission.  Thank you.

Inspections are welcomed and will be facillitated to the best of my ability prior to the auction concluding.

I have set a reasonable reserve for the BUG.  It is commensurate with the condition, ownership history and low miles.  Please do not ask what the reserve is, I will not disclose it.

Again, this is an inexpensive car.  Bid what you can afford and are willing to pay for the "classic" 1965 VW Sunroof BUG that you see before you.

The VW and I are located in the Colorado Springs vicinity.

Transportation and/or shipping is the sole responsibility of the buyer.

Trailered delivery is possible in the lower 48 states for $1000.00. (non-negotiable)

I can also recommend a reputable shipper for you, if needed.

While I am confident that the BUG could be driven home to anywhere in America, I do not recommend driving it home.  Old cars are just that...old cars.  Miles from home is not the place to become acquainted with your "new" old car.  Get it home first.  With that said, if you choose to drive it home, I can't stop you, and I will gladly pick you up from the airport in Colorado Springs.

* Important Condition:

If you are new to eBay, have 0% feedback, years of inactivity on eBay, excessive negative feedback, or less than 10 quality transactions (yeah, that order of PEEPS won't count), you will need to CALL ME prior to placing your bid and express your intentions, otherwise, your bid will be canceled and you will be blocked from further bidding.

This simple guideline is in place to preserve the integrity of the auction.  My experience is that if one has little feedback, there is no incentive to fulfill a purchase commitment, for negative feedback is of no concern to this individual.  The people that are regular ebayer's care about their buying/seller's rating(s).  Thank you.

A $1000.00 initial payment is due and payable within 24 hours of auction close VIA PayPal, no exceptions.  The balance is then due and payable within 5 days thereafter, under condition and arrangement made between myself and the buyer.

I prefer a legitimate bank to bank wire transfer for the balance, as it provides a documented record of the transaction for both parties.

I will accept PayPal for the entire amount, however, ONLY if the buyer pays ALL PayPal related fees including the initial payment fee. (approx. $30.00 per $1000.00)

eBay provides for only 24 pictures, I have selected pictures that best present a concise overview of the car.  If you would like any area specific pictures, simply request them.

I answer my phone quicker than I respond to e-mail, call me directly with any questions.  If you reach my voice mail, leave me a brief message, and I will return your call promptly.

If you would like to discuss a "buy it now", call me and PRESENT your offer.  DO NOT call and ask me, "what's the lowest that you'll take?"  Be thinking in the $5500-$6500 range.

Buyers from the U.S., Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand are welcome and encouraged to bid with confidence.  If the VW is destined to leave the country, I have shipped numerous times abroad and have contacts to assist in facilitating this.

The VW and title will not be released until full payment has been received.

I am not a dealer, I am a collector hobbyist that is downsizing. 100% eBay satisfaction, those that have purchased my vehicles are consistantly pleased with their cars, their expectations exceeded.

Clear Colorado title in my name.

Thanks for looking and good luck when you bid on this 50 year old "classic" VW BUG!

Jeff

VW redoes A-ha's 'Take On Me' music video

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Volkswagen has been responsible for its fair share of witty, clever commercials. "Tiny Vader" might be the most popular, but somehow, we think this newest spot will find a big audience. VW delivers not so much a cover, but a reimagining, of 1980s Norwegian pop band A-ha's famous music video for "Take On Me."
The original opens with an animated motorcycle race, which is revealed to be part of a comic book. VW's version replaces the motorcycle with a Passat, which strikes us as an oddly sober choice when there are cars like the GTI and Beetle in VW's portfolio. But never mind that - take a look down below for the entire 46-second spot. For reference, we've also included the original music video. And if you aren't a fan of the musical stylings of A-ha, just think, VW's choice of 1980s music could have been much worse.

Tanner Foust checks out his new VW Beetle GRC rally car

Thu, 11 Sep 2014

Racing driver and Top Gear USA host Tanner Foust is a very busy guy. After all, he's competing in rounds of both Global Rallycross series and FIA World Rallycross Championship, not to mention his TV duties. However, we probably shouldn't feel too sorry for him, because his job puts him behind the wheel of some truly crazy machinery.
Case in point is his latest ride in Global Rallycross - the Volkswagen Beetle GRC. The German company claims that this all-wheel drive Bug makes around 540 horsepower from its 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and can shoot to 60 in under 2 seconds. Plus, if this video is any indication, this Volkswagen sounds like a machine gun when throwing revs at idle, and it can do some wonderfully easy four-wheel drifts.
Previously, Foust was driving a VW Polo for Andretti Autosport in GRC, but the team unveiled the look of the Beetle GRC at the Chicago Auto Show. Now, Foust is finally getting to show off his new office to the public, and like VW's tagline for the new car claims, it's way hotter than Herbie.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
