1970 Toyota Fj40 Land Cruiser 4x4 on 2040-cars
Pendleton, Oregon, United States
For sale is my 1970 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser 4x4. It runs and drives great and is a blast to drive. The clean and straight condition it's in always brings out smiles and thumbs up from those that know these FJ's are really getting hard to find in this condition today. The original engine has been replaced with a Chevy small block V-8 engine. Has an Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley Carburetor for good drivability. To handle the V8 power with no problems, it has a new clutch in front of the original three speed transmission and transfer case. Shifts smooth with no grinding or gear whine.. Hydraulic clutch slave cylinder. New Hankook tires on all four corners with FJ center caps.. The original steering that typically wanders on the road has been replaced with a new steering box and arms that make it a pleasure to drive straight down the road. Second fuel tank is a custom stainless steel tank. Rear hitch mounted in a custom rear heavy duty bumper. Front fold up tow bar. Tow hooks. Stainless front bumper. New dual exhaust, mufflers and tail pipes. The interior is real clean and solid. Has surface rust only. No rot through. The seats were just recovered. Dash has one crack. Gauges and knobs are clean and in good shape. Headliner is gone. Has a added radio and speaker. The underside is rust free and solid. Still shows the original white paint on the floor pans above the drivetrain. That and the new exhaust and clean underside show up in the pictures as well.Take a good look at the pictures. It really is a good driver condition respectable and useable FJ40. Will go down the Freeway at 65 mph at around 3000 RPM. Please--if you have questions, ask, ask, ask. I am happy to help make this a great transaction. Dennis |

Toyota Prius sets a different kind of Nurburgring lap record [w/video]
Tue, 15 Jul 2014Scroll down the leaderboards of Nürburgring lap times and you'll see mostly racing cars, supercars and sports cars. Delve deep enough and you'll eventually get to hatchbacks and sedans, albeit the most performance-focused of their kind. But a hybrid? Sure, the Porsche 918 Spyder posted the top time for a street-legal series production car, and it's technically a hybrid, but we're talking about another kind of hybrid here. We're talking about a Toyota Prius.
That's right: the Prius just set a lap record around the Nordschleife. But it wasn't for the lap time. In fact, miles per hour barely factored in (except for staying above the minimum 37-mph average speed mandated on the vaunted racing circuit). No, this was about miles per gallon.
Toyota took one of its Prius Plug-In hybrids to the Nürburgring, topped up the battery, put on a set of low-rolling-resistance tires and put automotive journalist Joe Clifford behind the wheel with a mandate to use as little fuel as possible. After one second shy of 21 minutes, the Prius completed its lap having used just five tablespoons of fuel.
Expedition drives from Russia to Canada over North Pole...
Tue, 21 May 2013No, a Ford Expedition did not drive from Russia to Canada via the North Pole, but that's exactly what a team of intrepid explorers accomplished recently. Using specially-modified buses with massive tires, the group slowly drove 2,485 miles in 70 days over drifting ice, occasionally using a pickaxe to clear a path and staying on guard for chasms that could open up and plunge the team into the frigid arctic waters. Average speeds were about 6 mph, "at the speed of a (farm) tractor." While the big tires technically allowed the buses to float if the need arose, the team preferred to stay out of the water to keep the suspension from getting coated in thick, hard ice. Falling in on foot would mean almost certain death.
According to Phys.org, the buses were powered by Toyota diesel engines, but were built with prototype parts from a previous driving expedition to the North Pole. Right now, the machines are parked in a garage in Canada's Resolute Bay while the the team rests up with family back home. They plan to continue their trek to back across the Bering Straight to Russia. If successful, the team may eventually offer a version of their buses for commercial sale.
Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales
Wed, 21 Nov 2012The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.
