I have a 1988 1st gen 4runner. I bought it last summer as a stock truck. It had zero rust, clean interior, clean everything. It had 250k miles on it so I decided to buy a brand new fully rebuilt 22re (1200). I took my time installing it and did everything correctly. All new gaskets and exhaust. New red top optima battery (300). New alternator (100). Flushed tranny and put in new fluid. After a swapped the motor I wanted 33s. So i bought brand new goodyear dura tracs, and brand new eagle alloy 16 inch rims. (1400)To fit the tires I put add a leafs and support coils in the rear and 2.5 ball joint spacers in the front. And new shocks all around. (350) Then I bought a new trail gear rear bumper (300). New Stereo, including a new deck, diamond sub, alpine amp, and 2 alpine 6 inch speakers. (900) New SR5 gauge cluster, which read 288k when i got it. But i still have old dash to prove milage and pics when i bought the SR5 cluster. Once I started driving with the 33s I realized I needed to regear the truck. I bought brand new 4.88 ring and pinions front and rear(500) Plus a brand new Detroit locker (500) and had them professionally installed. Also I have a soft top for the truck (600).

I did the correct break in on the motor and it is running strong. Right now I'm getting about 270 miles to the tank which is about 20 mpg. It is truly a great daily driver and will last for ever. I made the truck with the intentions of keeping it for a very long time but my needs have changed. Right now the e brake does not work because the rear brakes need work. And the check engine light is on for the mass airflow sensor although it will not affect inspection because it cant be plugged in at the shop so if the light bulb is taken out it will pass, or the problem can be fixed ($100)

I have over 11,000 into this truck. Id like to trade the 4runner for a full size ford. 73-79 crew cab, 94-97 7.3 crew cab, just shoot me a txt or call 413-884-281four. Or cash sale is 6500

Toyota settles first wrongful death suit related to unintended acceleration

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

Toyota's sales seem to have rebounded from the unintended acceleration issues from 2009 and 2010, but the automaker is far from done dealing with this situation. Following a settlement worth up to $1.4 billion for economic loss to affected vehicle owners, Toyota has settled rather than going to trial in a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from an accident in Utah in 2010 that left two passengers dead. This isn't the first case in which Toyota has settled, but it was the first among a consolidated group of cases being held in Santa Ana, CA.
According to The Detroit News, this case was scheduled to take place next month, and it was for a November 2010 incident in which Paul Van Alfen and Charlene James Lloyd were killed in a Camry when, based on findings by the Utah Highway Patrol, the accelerator got stuck causing the car to speed out of control and hit a wall; the terms of the settlement were not announced.
The article says that while Toyota will settle on some cases, it doesn't plan on settling on all of them as it still wants to be able to "defend [its] product at trial." This will probably be the case in suits claiming that software for the drive-by-wire accelerator was the cause of an accident in a Toyota or Lexus vehicle. The question of whether or not the electronic accelerator played any role in this problem has been a hot-button topic since the beginning. Toyota has issued recalls in the past to attempt to prevent unintended acceleration caused by trapped floor mats and faulty accelerator pedals, but it also says driver error was to blame in some instances.

Toyota begins shipping Le Yaris to America

Fri, 17 May 2013

Our tiniest Toyota (Scion iQ notwithstanding) is about to get a little French flair. The Japanese automaker announced Thursday that its Toyota Motor Manufacturing France facility would begin building Yaris models destined for North America - specifically, the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. This will mark the first time in history that Toyota has exported vehicles to North America from Europe.
Initially, Toyota will export roughly 25,000 Yaris models to North American markets from France each year. In order to handle this additional production, Toyota Motor Manufacturing France has invested 10 million euro into its French facility.
Despite being somewhat of a snooze-fest (it's a car!), the Yaris carries on in North America with a 106-horsepower 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with prices starting at $14,370 for the three-door and $15,395 for the five-door, not including $795 for destination.

Toyota discontinuing FJ Cruiser after 2014 model year

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is not long for this world. According to the manufacturer's own fleet website, the rugged FJ will be discontinued after the 2014 model year, with the companies final orders due in June of next year.
Toyota first launched the FJ Cruiser in 2006 as a 2007 model, and aside from minor year-over-year changes, it has not been substantially updated. The FJ is the modern successor to the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that Toyota produced from the 1960s all the way up through 1984, when the automaker decided to better focus on its larger, four-door Land Cruiser line. Currently, it uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and is available with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, word of the FJ's demise comes not long after Toyota's US boss, Bill Fay, reaffirmed his company's commitment to body-on-frame trucks in late July.
Also of interest, Toyota's fleet website states that the 2014 model year Prius range will have "minor updates," though it's unclear what those are as of this writing. When Autoblog reached out to confirm these developments with Toyota, spokesman Curt McCallister reminded us, "As is our corporate policy, we don't discuss future products beyond the present or upcoming model year."
