1984 MECHAM RACING TRANS AM #84

Numbers matching 5.0L HO, 5 speed factory 3.73 posi. Fully documented, sold new at Mecham Pontiac in Glendale AZ. Have build sheet, and service records from Mecham Pontiac since new. Aside from seat covers and wheels, the car is 100% original right down to the paint. Rust free, and obviously never been hit. Original paint still has a good shine, but is getting thin in spots. The seats were reupholstered, but they used the wrong color blue. Nice dash, carpet is original and as new. No stains or rips. Equipped with the Talon Suspension from Mecham. This car handles amazing. I also had a 91 ZR-1 Corvette, and while the ZR-1 had way more power, the MSE would hand the ZR-1 it's ass in the handling department, and I'm not kidding. This car is a survivor, and has aged incredibly well. There probably aren't many better examples of a 1984 Trans Am, not to mention an MSE.
Don't be fooled by the 5.0l engine. This thing kicks ass. Mecham obviously did something to that engine. Stock exhaust with stock cat, but sounds amazing. The car comes alive at 90+mph. PM me for more info. Rare piece of Pontiac 3rd gen history. This car spent it's entire life in the Glendale AZ area, near Mecham Pontiac. I purchased the car a few years ago, and brought it to California. ZERO RUST. NONE. ZERO. NOWHERE. NOT EVEN SURFACE RUST ANYWHERE.

If you are unfamiliar with these cars, google it, there's lots of info out there. Mecham Racing was hired by Pontiac to build a Trans Am that would actually win the SCCA Trans Am Race in 1982, and they did. Mecham was well known in the 1970's for their "Macho Trans Ams", which are legendary today. When the 3rd generation F body came out, Mecham called them Motor Sports Edition, to commemorate the 1982 win. Mecham did performance upgrades to the engine, different leather wrapped steering wheel, urethane suspension, lowered coils, and a much larger rear spoiler. There were quite a few other things they did as well. Very rare cars, that rarely come up for sale. Each car was numbered. I am selling it, because I also have a 1980 Macho Turbo Trans Am #4 of 6, and am focusing on that car.

This car has never given me any issues at all. I drive it at least weekly, probably more. You can truly "fly in, and drive home".

The car is located in Santa Clarita, about 25 miles north of Los Angeles. I have a clean, clear, Arizona title in my name, in hand.

Please give me a call with any questions. I am more than happy to spend any amount of time on the phone making sure this is the car for you.

Additionally, this car is very historically significant to the Trans Am world. It needs to go to the right home. I'm not in a dire need to sell the car. If you're interested in a car to make into a K.I.T.T. Knight Rider conversion, this isn't the car for you. If you're looking for a car to modify, paint a different color, pro tour, resto-mod, etc, this ISN'T  the car. If you're looking for a very original, survivor 3rd gen Trans Am, and will continue to preserve and honor the car, then you've come to the right place.

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.

This Auto Aerobics car art ties our brains in knots like pretzels

Sat, 14 Dec 2013

We like cars, and we like art. Naturally, Chris Labrooy's Auto Aerobics series - computer-generated images of some seriously contorted 1968 Pontiac Bonnevilles floating in mid-air - instantly clicked with us. If the Pontiacs weren't floating or hollow, we could be fooled into believing the image is real. But where's the fun in that?
Check out the gallery we included of Labrooy's Bonneville art, and feel free too head over to his website for some Formula One humor.

GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.
