1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Daytona Pace Car 74,300 Miles Survivor on 2040-cars

Year:1979 Mileage:74300
Location:

Massapequa Park, New York, United States

Thank you for viewing my 1979 Pontiac Trans Am 10th Anniversary Edition Daytona 500 Pace Car replica.

This car is an unrestored survivor showing just 74,300 miles. The 6.6 Litre 403 starts right up and runs and drives very well.  It also stops and handles very well.  This is a  matching numbers car.  This is considered one of the most collectible Trans Ams available with only about 7,500 being produced and this being the last American performance car of the era available with 400 cubic inches.

This car is authenticated by the build sheet and an "X" in the second digit of the VIN.

All of the Anniversary Edition specific parts are there including one year only 15x8 Turbo wheels, mirrored T-Tops, silver leather interior (only 2nd gen F-Body made with leather) and red dash lights.

Of course it also has the Anniversary edition specific two two silver & gray two tone paint with with three-piece bird package extending onto top of the fenders.

These cars only came fully loaded, with four wheel disc, posi differential, WS6 suspension and much more. Everything works except for the power antenna and the door locks. It even has the original digital AM/FM 8-Track. This car rolls on restored wheels shod with new BF Goodrich Radial TA's and has recent dual exhaust with stainless steel mufflers.

Please note that this is a survivor rather than a restored car so it does show some chips & scratches that it has gotten over its 35 year life but they are only original once and overall it shows very well.  Window sweeps show wear and should be replaced as well as side glass showing scratching.
Some of the decals show crazing and the quarters show signs of being repainted at one time but there is no evidence of rust repair.
This is a very straight car with no rot in the usual 2nd gen places like the rockers, trunk jams, quarters, fenders, t-top jams, floor pans or trunk floors.
All black out trim shows well and the car is complete.

It always elicits smiles and thumbs up where ever it goes. These cars are quickly appreciating and here is a chance to acquire one of the few survivors left.
Please view all pics and ask any questions PRIOR to bidding.  More pictures available on request.

Unless fresh off a concourse restoration all old cars will need things.  In addition to asking any questions you may have, I strongly encourage you to come see the car or have someone look at it on your behalf.  Car is located on Long Island, about 40 minutes east of New York City.

Shipping is the Buyer's responsibility and at the buyer's expense but I will assist within reason.
$1,000 Deposit due via Paypal within 48 hours of auction end.  Balance payable in cash on pickup.
If you need other arrangements please contact me PRIOR to bidding.
Thank you, good luck & HAPPY BIDDING!

10TH ANNIVERSARY TRANS AM (Y89)

Perhaps the most notable T/A of the year, this specially prepared model paced the Daytona 500 while celebrating an F-body milestone. The package was only available in two-tone silver and dark charcoal, trimmed with red, silver and gray striping. An enlarged, differently designed, color-keyed hood decal spilled onto the top of each front fender, effectively making it a three-piece motif rather than a standard one-piece decal.

Interiors were finished in silver, including the leather seats, the material of which--according to one published report--was left over from the '78 Corvette pace car effort. Another standout was the instrument panel, lit in red. As a top-of-the-line model, nearly every option was included standard, as was a Y89-only electronically tuned digital-display AM/FM/8-Track stereo with seek/scan features.

Beyond the appearance items, engine selection was limited to the 403 or the 400. The Y89 also mandated the installation of the WS6 package and the 15x8 Turbo wheels, which were produced by the Appliance Wheel Company. Total cost exceeded $10,600, yet it still attracted 7,500 buyers. 5,683 cars were equipped with the 403; 1,817 with the 400. Pontiac would release an anniversary edition every five years thereafter.

GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes

Mon, 01 Oct 2012

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.

Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.
Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.

Pontiac Firebird in latest Generation Gap scrap

Tue, 30 Sep 2014

Generation Gap is mining the Lingenfelter collection again this week to compare two very different interpretations of the Pontiac Firebird. An original 1968 example goes toe-to-toe with a 2010 Lingenfelter Trans Am to see whether the old man or the modern re-imagining takes the crown.
Being from the Lingenfelter collection, both cars are absolutely immaculate. The '68 packs a Pontiac 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) V8 with a claimed 320 horsepower and some classic, muscular style with a hood-mounted tach. Plus, it's painted in an understated shade of green that you don't usually see.
In the other corner is Lingenfelter's pumped-up take on the classic shape based on the modern Camaro, and this is just one of six concept versions ever made. It wears an eye-catching, vintage-inspired livery of blue with a white stripe package. Under its shaker hood is a 455-cubic-inch (7.5-liter) V8 with a reported 655 hp and 610 pound-feet of torque.
