1987 Trans Am GTA. 305 TPI engine, 700r4 auto transmission, 3.23 posi, new Alston racing welded inner subframe connectors (primed and painted where welded), new TDS wonder bar that has extra holes to connect front subframe from bottom (better than a tower brace), new rear brakes, Brembo drums, Bendix shoes, AC Delco wheel cylinders, new rear shocks, new gas cap, new headlights, new Kenwood 200w stereo with remote and 720w 4 channel amp, new 200/400w front/rear pioneer speakers, new windshield, AC works but ac clutch makes some mild noise, new seats. Rust free. Has aftermarket fiberglass rear wrap around spoiler that runs around $450 shipped. Does not crack like the original rubber type. New American Racing 17x8 Nova machined wheels. Looks similar to the old Pontiac Ralley Wheel but aftermarket. A good running/driving/reliable project. Gets approx 18mpg. Better on highway. Needs some work. Needs fuel gauge. I drive it three days and put 6-7 gallons in it now. Has the digital gauges from factory. I would replace them myself; but I know they are rare. They are not too accurate. I do have some (6ea) matching aftermarket Equus 8000 series white face gauges with 160mph speedo, to go with it if someone would want to swap them out for racing type gauges. You would have to make a new sheet metal bezel for it. Also has new GM fuel pump and sending unit installed. Also a 3" Jegs exhaust with JEGS flowmaster type muffler. Power windows work slow. I have the new window motors and a new door pin kit for the doors still in packages to go with it. Could use paint and door seals. Straight and rust free as you are going to find for a project third gen car. has New 255/45/17 front tires. Has okay rear tires. Right rear is better. 285/40/17. Headliner and door panels in very good condition. Would posssibly trade for a GM SWB 1/2 ton truck in similar condition years 1980-95 or even older C10 SWB with good body. Also for sale or trade locally so I have to right to end early if sold. Selling because oldest son will need a truck, otherwise I would still keep it. Needs paint, door seals, front drivers side front parking light replaced/rewired, fuel gauge. Does pull to left when brake is applied hard. Rear brakes have been replaced. Not perfect but a good start on a 26yr old third gen project. Only rust I see is on the bottom of the battery tray and that is even just minor surface rust. Could use plugs/wires but runs okay. I will throw in the new AC rapid fire platinum plugs, Taylor 8mm wires, new BWD select distributer cap and rotor for buyer. Over $100 worth just there. Even the cruise control and foglights work. Head light motors on both sides have been rebuilt with new Delrin nylon bushings and also and go up and down just fine. It also has the original louvered type hood with original vin and not the formula type hood shown in last pic. I have well over 3k in car and not counting any labor. Good running/driving/project. Not a show car.

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.

CNN chronicles young girl building Pontiac Fiero

Fri, 26 Oct 2012

At fourteen years of age, Kathryn DiMaria has already done what many self-proclaimed gearheads won't even attempt in their lifetimes. The Dearborn, Michigan teen is rebuilding a car from the ground up.
The intrepid youngster asked her parents when she was just twelve to start a Pontiac Fiero project, even offering to pony up all the funds herself. Father, Jerry DiMaria only expected the project to last a few months, but two years later, Kathryn is still at it. In this CNN video, the two are at Maker Faire (a DIY festival) rebuilding a 3.4-liter V6 engine out of a Chevrolet Camaro to replace the 2.8-liter mill found in the Fiero.
The whole family hast pitched in, with Kathryn's mother teaching her how to sew in order to complete the interior, father Jerry providing much of the technical know-how, and even her sister is chronicling Kathryn's progress through photos. Jerry even started a thread in a Fiero forum which has been live for two years and is now 22 pages long. Of the project, one forum member wrote, "welcome to the madness."

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
