1981 Pontiac Trans Am

Up for sale is my second generation Trans Am. I wish I had the time/money/ambition to finish this car but unfortunately it just isn't there so I have to let her go. I've owned the car for the past 5 years now so it has been quite the ongoing project! Over the years most of the hard work has been done! The drivetrain was completely rebuilt, the interior was gutted, and the bodywork and paint were done. With a little bit of money and a lot of love you could have yourself one killer ride! The motor is a 6.6 400 and if I remember correctly it is out of a 75 Trans Am. For those of you who aren't aware in 81 the cars only came with the 301 which is an AWFUL motor. For that reason the car was upgraded to the 400. The motor was rebuilt 3 or 4 years ago and literally has no miles on it since! The car has simply moved in and out of the shop! Please note that the motor has been started periodically so that she wouldn't seize up. The car was last started in October so just a few months ago. She is pretty stock with the exception of Holley valve covers, a Holley electric fuel pump, and an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. The heads are stock 400 heads and the carb is a good old Quadrajet! Please note that although the car has an electric fuel pump it still has a real gas tank and not some stupid fuel cell! The transmission is a 3 speed automatic and it does have a slight leak. Like I said I would simply move the car in and out of the shop every 6 months or so and always had to top off the fluid. This car has original FOUR WHEEL DISK BRAKES!!! The body and paint were done about 2 or 3 years ago and also has 0 miles on it. It is a sweet silvery blue with LOTS of metallic. Pics don't do it justice! There are a couple of small blemishes due to sitting around but the car has never been wetsanded and any blemishes could easily be sanded out. Upon my inspection the only real paint blemish is a bubbling spot on the rear bumper. The floors are solid, with the exception of a couple small quarter sized holes behind the passenger seat area, and the trunk is perfect!  Moving on to what you don't see in the pics... I have TONS of parts to go with this car! First of I have pretty much everything needed to put the interior back together including some duplicates! All of the seats are there but could use a recovering. The stainless steel dash is in there but I have a second stainless dash in nicer shape including extra gauge bezels and the rare/hard to find RTS badge. I have all of the plastic interior trim pieces and 90% of them have been repainted and look nice. Only the two rear quarter trim pieces aren't painted but I have a sample of the paint so you can match the color. I have the door pans in decent shape. I have a matching vinyl headliner that is in like new condition as well as the cardboard headliner board which is in good shape. Pretty much what I don't have is the carpet! Note that the dash is faded and has a crack. The center console is in good shape with the exception of one spot near the bottom drivers side that someone cut to install the on/off switch and start button for the electric fuel pump. I have the "shaker" scoop and it is painted to match. I also have door mirrors and the ground effects which are not yet painted. The ground effects aren't in great shape, i'd probably just replace them. The snowflake wheels need to be refurbished but they are definitely useable. I have the taillights, all the wiring is there even the bulbs! Last I remember all the headlights work, they are STILL tapped off from paint! The windshield has a crack but the rear glass is in good shape. I have both windows in good shape as well. I have a column key and a lock key as well as a good clean Michigan title! Payment must be made with cash in person or a mailed cashiers check! Sorry, no paypal! I'm starting the car at $4500 with no reserve and trust me MUCH MORE than that has been put into this car! I have two true reasons for getting rid of this car. The first is that I no longer have an indoor place for her and she is sitting out in this awful Michigan weather! That is just sad!!! The second reason is that throughout this restoration project my father has helped fund the build tremendously! I feel bad that the car still isn't done and I really want to pay him back. One bid of $4500 will pay my dad back and i'll just take the loss! I could've posted nice spring pictures of the car where it isn't snow covered and wet but I wanted to showcase how badly this car needs a good indoor home! Please note that the car is currently under a cover but still outside! I know there are plenty of things I have left out so if you have ANY questions please feel free to contact me! Also if you are local I am more than willing to set up a time for you to come check her out! Thanks!!!

Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys

Mon, 10 Jun 2013

According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
