1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM

VIN:  2U87W9L164109

MILEAGE: 122033

TITLE: Clear Ohio title in hand, but it is stated on title last state of registration was Tennessee.

HISTORY: Sorry, but I can't tell you a lot. I bought the car from car restoring friend that lives near Cincinnati, Ohio. He bought the car from  Rickman, Tennessee.

PHOTOS/PICTURES: Ebay Motors make it hard to find all the pictures, I do have more pictures listed, just scroll on the right side of the pictures and you will find more.

For your consideration I have a driver quality 1979 Trans Am for sale. The engine is not the original, its a Pontiac 350 cubic inch, the transmission is not the original its a 4 speed manual, the paint looks good, but its not perfect, the interior is all good other than cracks in the dash pad, the show flake wheels look good and the tires are good. This is a good looking car, but its no roll out of the trailer show queen that's a 100 point show car.

WILL I SELL OFF EBAY? Sure, I want to sell the car and I know lots of you don't have PayPal and ebay accounts.

The rest of the information is boring unless you are really interested in buying the vehicle, its just buying details like shipping, paperwork, who I am, where the car is located and how to pay and contact information.

WHO YOU ARE BUYING FROM: My name is Ron Watson and I live in the small town of Athens, TennesseeAthens is called the friendly city”. We are located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee “I am truly qualified to be called a Hill Billy”. I am 67 years old and work with my son Keith who is now 41. I am now retired and living my dream restoring, selling and improving classic cars. For 12 years I was an auto mechanics instructor at Tennessee Technology Center here in Athens. I am also a veteran of the US Army; I served as a Chinook helicopter mechanic, crew chief and instructor in the late 60s, I did spend a year in Vietnam. I’m Southern Baptist faith and proud to be an American. I’ve been married to the same good woman for 44 years. LIFE IS GOOD IN THE GREEN HILLS OF EAST TENNESSEE!

Sorry, I do not show cars on Sunday! I worship on Sunday, I spend time with my family, I'm 67 years old and need some rest. I love cars and will help you 6 days a week, but not on Sunday.

Sorry, I do not do videos. I'm old and just don't enjoy doing them.

HAS THE CAR BEEN IN A ACCIDENT? I see no signs of accident damage, the frame looks straight, the sheet metal is not wrinkled up that I see, by law the title has to state it if the car has ever been in a bad accident and it does not.

IS THERE ANY RUST PROBLEMS: I see no rust bubbles in the paint,  no swelled places, the sub frame member look good, the bottoms of the floor pans have been replaced and it looks like a couple of other places.

IS IT A MATCHING NUMBERS CAR:  No, the engine is now a Pontiac 350 cubic inch, the car was born with a 301. The transmission is now a 4 speed manual, it was not born with it.

ENGINE: Good running engine, no knocks, no rattles, no bad oil leaks, "I will not guarantee you it won't leave a drop of oil on you wife's nice clean floor, its just a old car".  It still has the 4 barrel Quadrijet carburetor and the choke it not great, you have to let the engine warm up.

EXHAUST:  Old school glass pac mufflers.

TRANSMISSION: Its a  4 speed manual, the clutch and pressure plate fell good.

REAREND: Its a 10 bolt with a good highway gearing, no whines or growls.

BRAKES: Disc brakes in front, drum brakes in rear, they are power.

STEERING: The car is power steering and drives good.

LIGHTS: The headlights work, tail lights work, brake lights work, dome light is not working.

GAUGES; The gas gauge works, the temp works, the oil works, the speedometer works, the tachometer is working.

WIPERS WORK! HORN IS NOT WORKING! CLOCK not working.  Speedometer is not working, reason being it is not hooked up at the

transmission, the shifter linkage is in the way.

INTERIOR: Decent interior, good seats, good door panels, carpet faded a little, seat belts are ugly, the headliner looks new, the dash pad is cracked ( a new molded hard cover can be bought the fits and looks great).

DECALS: Nice and bright and not cracked up.

PAINT: Good looking paint, but not perfect, its just good driver quality, the black has a brilliant shine, no big dents, no rust bubbles.

HOW IS THE PANEL FIT: Good other than the hood, they were junk on the Trans Am, they were too long and heavy and not braced enough, this one has a bow up like a lot of others. The doors fit good, the trunk fits good.

TRADES: Please no trades, they never work out and are just too hard!

CONTACT INFO: my cell telephone number is 423-506-8987, I do not answer when driving, while meeting with people, after about 8:00 PM Eastern Time.  Please leave a voice mail and I’ll get back. I do check my emails several times a day.

cell 423-506-8987                                 email: dreamcar@live.com

PAPERWORK: I know what to do! We are just a father/son 2 man operation, but we are a Tennessee licensed/bonded car dealer and have sold cars all over the US and exported many.

THIS IS NOT AN AUCTION, THIS IS A FIXED PRICE LISTING: I reserve the right to stop the listing at any time and sale the car “come look”.

I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO STOP THE LISTING AT ANY TIME. THE CAR IS FOR SALE ON THE LOCAL MARKET.

WHERE THE CAR IS LOCATED: The car is here at my garage in Athens, Tennessee. Athens is in east Tennessee, we are 50 miles south of Knoxville and 50 miles north of Chattanooga. Look at a Road Atlas and follow interstate 75 south from Knoxville. I live one mile and one turn from the interstate exit. My zip code is 37303. The closest large airport is Knoxville. Athens does have a good small airport, but has no commercial flights.

Transport US OR EXPORT “I like Nations Auto Transport". They are located in Kansas City.

Contact: Jim Page his office number is 816-295-6887 and his email is jpage@shipnat.com

MY AREA CODE FOR TRANSPORT: The area code for Athens, Tennessee is 37303. I live 1 mile off a major interstate (I-75) and 35 miles south of interstate 40, so transport is usually very fast.

PAYMENT: I require a $250 deposit for a Buy Now or to hold the car.

I will take paypal for the deposit, but not for full payment.

Option 1: Pay the old school way face to face.

Option 2: Pay by check, I will wait till the check clears, I have had

a fake bank certified check.

Option 3: The safest is to let our banks handle it, my bank is a

member of the US Federal Reserve, this is called wire

transfer. And its safe for both of us.

WILL I HOLD THE CAR UNTIL YOU GET HERE TO LOOK OR HAVE IT INSPECTED? Its good business for both of us the take a deposit. A $250 deposit locks it in for you! I have held too many cars that people promise me they are going to buy and they never show up, their wife won’t let them buy it, they can’t get a loan or they just back out. Before you drive or fly a long distance you need to make sure the car is not sold. “The way I look at it is until you pay a deposit you’re just looking and dreaming”.

INSPECTIONS: Please come look and be happy. All inspections are required to be done before the end of the listing. I listed this car as I see it as a 66 year old car restorer, please come and judge it for your self. I judge the car to my standards, this may not be yours. Paid inspectors have to be very critical to cover their back sides. I understand how hard it is to buy a car without looking, but I think you should come look yourself. I don’t like paid inspectors, I like for the person that is buying to inspect for themselves. I think its fine to send a friend to inspect for you. To make it clear, don’t hit the buy now button and then inspect, come inspect first!

If you are not registered with ebay motors, I will work with you, "YOU CAN BUY DIRECT".

BOTTOM LINE: Sorry, but my firm price is $12,999 I'm asking more on the local market. The game is not rocket science, ask a price and come down. It’s not fun to bargain over the cell phone all day long with people that live 2000 miles away and are not going to buy anyway. My firm price is the Buy Now price. I have sold every car I have ever tried to, so I’m not motivated to be bargained down.

WILL BE VERY HAPPY TO SELL YOU THE VEHICLE WITH-OUT AN INSPECTION; YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE A LOT OF NERVE AND PLEASE DON’T BE A CRY BABY.

Read the ME section on the upper right hand part of the listing marked seller info.

Thank You,

Ron Watson cell: 423-506-8987 email: dreamcar@live.com

I am very careful about taking payment, I have had a fake certified check, it looked real and the buyer seemed real. I will take one, but I will check you out. I am ebay varified, that means you can buy ebays buyer protection plan and they will guarantee thats I'm real, they will not guarantee the car.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.
