1977 Pontiac "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am        Please make sure you know how much it will cost to ship your purchase before you place any bids. Internationally shipping can be quite expensive. Yes, It does cost $3500-$5000 to have it shipped to Sydney, Australia. I've been to Australia, and I can say with confidence that if the winning bidder that backed out of his commitment would have followed through and had this car shipped there, it would have been worth at least 30-40K in its present condition. That's how much Australia values American muscle cars. They don't get much more original than this Bandit car! I was going to restore this sweetheart myself, but I'm getting tired of trying to please every eBayer out there, and all my hard work gets unappreciated, so I'm selling this Black and Gold treasure un-restored. I have done many daily drivers, and have had many extremely happy buyers, so that last comment is exempt from those valued customers, but after the last two buyers I'm taking a break from doing cars for awhile. I know every car is different, but the eBay viewing audience that views my user rating might not look at it that way, so I'm choosing to leave the restoration of this real Bandit car to the winner for his or her choice of bringing it up to whatever level they choose. Most people looking at this car will know exactly how much it will cost to make it into Star Car status, and they know exactly how extremely valuable this model is, especially with these options. I value my feedback rating, and I always strive to make every single one of my buyers as happy as possible. When people watch too many Barrett-Jackson auctions, and think they are getting a car of that quality for quarters on the dollar, that is simply unrealistic. Yet I've been confronted with more than my fair share of those buyers. I love muscle cars, and I always put my heart and soul into every car I do. This one will be left up to someone else, but I will give my most accurate opinion of what I know about this car. I saw no signs of this car ever being involved in an accident, so all the panels still line up like they should, because they were never tampered with from what I can tell. I was told this car has the original paint, and I see no evidence of any re-paint work other than some gloss black spray over several blemishes. The previous owner never mentioned it, but I'm assuming this car was factory undercoated from the plastic plugs in the door jambs. Even the front ground effects panel below the Endura front nose, which is typically long gone is still in place. This Bandit was ordered with the screaming fire chicken delete, but they are available in an aftermarket decal. All of the 1970-1981 Trans Am parts are readily available at a wide variety of classic part suppliers, and swap meets are a great place to acquire many of these parts at a discounted rate. I'm leaving the restoration of this Black Bird up to the level of the "Smokey and the Bandit" movie if they so desire. I just saw that movie on the Turner Classics right here in Wisconsin yesterday, and it really is dis-heartening having to sell this one. To start with, this is one of the most highly documented cars you are ever going to come across selling at "No Reserve". This car was purchased brand new from Alpine Buick Pontiac GMC Inc. in Lake Geneva Wisconsin on June 6th, 1977 as shown on the motor vehicle dealer statement for a grand total of $8,184.26. That was a boat load of money back in the day. All of the documentation shown is original to this car, and not just picked up attending a swap meet or purchased through eBay. Apparently, the gentleman I received this car from had owned it since 1979 when it was a year and a half old. He said the 6.6 Litre 400 cubic inch engine is absolutely original to the car. Anyone can take one look under the hood, and see all the original little parts that came on these cars are still in place. I don't know these cars at all, but I've been doing GM A-body cars for 35 years, and I can tell when a car has original factory equipment, and I personally can't see much of anything missing. The entire amount of documents I received from my seller will be included with this sale. He knew the original owner, so he got all of the new car documents including the original car paper folder that was issued by the new car dealer showing it was delivered on 6/6/77. Here is a list of everything I have for documentation including a very nice copy of the August 1976 issue of Motor Trend magazine that features Pontiac's Rare Bird, the '77 Trans Am T-Top car on the front cover, and a fascinating featured article. I don't know the production numbers on the "Smokey and the Bandit" cars, but in the article that came out before these cars were released, it said that they don't expect more than 2,200 to be made. That makes these cars even more super rare, so included with that copy of the August 1976 Motor Trend is the 1977 Pontiac consumer information pamphlet, the 1977 GM accessory catalog, the '77 general information owner's manual, the '77 operating instructions owner's manual, the Hurst Hatch operation and maintenance instructions, the Space Saver spare tire warranty, the 1977 Pontiac maintenance schedule unused, the 1976-1978 Pontiac Hurst Hatch roof limited warranty, the warranty information on 1977 Pontiac new cars, the Firestone limited warranty pamphlet, the Dura-Coat limited original owner lifetime warranty issued by the Alpine dealership that sold the car new, and the original Thank You note from the salesman Mark at the dealership that sold the car from Alpine Pontiac in Lake Geneva. I'm a 442 guy, so I don't know where the build sheets are in any Trans Am's, but I feel certain that whatever lucky person restores this car will find any of them wherever the factory stashed them in these cars. If your dream was always to restore a true "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am, then this could be the car you have been waiting for. It is extremely hard to find an unmolested all original 1977 in this day and age. They've mostly all been either crushed or brought back to their former glory already. This just might be your last chance!! Don't let this opportunity slip away!!! From my experience and from what I've learned, 1977 is the most valuable of all the Black and Gold Trans Am Bandit car models, since it was the '77 model that was used in the original movie with Burt Reynold's. From what I understand 1977 was the only year with Hurst Hatch T-Tops, and that is what makes this car so rare. I want to give an awesome story of how valuable this model can be. These 1977 models have shown to consistently escalate in value with each quarter. I know there are some people that will view this auction who were at the Barrett-Jackson auction that I am about to explain, but this story can be verified at the Barrett-Jackson website if the auction I am about to mention is looked up on-line. I researched the Nada Classic Car Price Guide values that anyone can also look up online at the Nada website to verify the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am with the 400 cubic inch engine, and air conditioning is valued at $36,375 in the highest condition, $21,250 in average condition, and $13,312 in the lowest possible condition, which pretty much means a car that is completely gone, and needs everything with missing parts, but is still worth that lowest amount. However those prices don't reflect an original Hurst Hatch T-Top car. If you check the sunroof box, the prices go up to $37,830, $22,100, and $13,844, so I'm sure if the Hurst Hatches, or a "Smokey and the Bandit" Special Edition model were added, the value would increase substantially. The moral of all this information is: I saw an original 1977 fully restored "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am paired up with a 1981 "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am that sold at the Scottsdale Barrett-Jackson auction in 2010. The seller ran those two "Smokey and the Bandit" cars as a pair. He paid to run them with Star Car status on that weekend, and during the week leading up to his auction block time he had two smoking hot girls dressed in black mini skirts, with fishnets, and stiletto's passing out "Smokey and the Bandit" promotional material about the movie, and his two cars up for auction. I can't say for sure the final gavel price, but I know it was well into the 6 figure range. I think the bidding ended up at $150,000 for the pair. Now, we all know it wasn't because of the 1981 Black and Gold Trans Am. It was mainly due to the 1977 Authentic Hurst Hatch Special Edition Trans Am that had the bidders of that auction all excited and ready to pay those type of prices. Well the way the seller promoted his two cars didn't hurt either. This all original Trans Am has never been restored, so what you see is exactly what you get. The last time this Pontiac was on the road was when the last registration expired in September of 1999. It was stored in the 2nd owners garage from then until I made the purchase last summer. I replaced the alternator with a brand new one, and changed the oil and filter. After I put a battery in this tough Bandit car it fired right up. The engine still sounds strong! The brake light is on, and the brakes feel a little spongy, but they do stop the car. The speedometer is currently not working, but the tachometer works fine. It might just need a new speedometer cable. This "Smokey and the Bandit" Black Bird Trans Am has the Special Edition stripes, and power disc brakes, power steering, power windows, power door locks, power trunk, tilt wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, rear defogger, dual sport mirrors, and best of all the rare original Hurst Hatch T-Tops. Needless to say this original "Smokey and the Bandit" Black Bird is fully loaded. I'm selling this car as needing a full restoration, but it sure is a great candidate to start with. If you have the funds to restore a car of this magnitude properly it will be worth a great deal of money. There is a set of four B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A raised white lettered tires with decent tread on a full set of the original Gold Snowflake sport wheels. The original trunk mat is still in place with the original Space Saver spare tire that looks like it was never used. Plus the original jack is mounted in its proper place. The Black smoked lenses that some people had over the headlights are included inside the trunk. I don't remember ever seeing them in the "Smokey and the Bandit" movie, but the mounting hardware is still in place on the original gold grill bezels. I showed a picture of the original rear end tag proving it still has the original Posi-traction rear end. It also looks like the original catalytic converter is on this car with the single muffler system split into dual exhaust. The rear sway bar is on this Bandit as well. Please ask as many questions as you like. They will be answered as proficiently as possible. I pride myself in answering every question in explicit detail with the utmost honesty. This unmolested original will sell to the highest bidder on Sunday evening at 8pm Eastern time, 7pm Central time, and 5pm Pacific time.
