Up for auction is this unique Cameo white with white/blue interior SD Trans Am 4spd. "X", the character in the VIN that makes all the difference in the world in a Trans Am...As if the 212 4spd production total figure isn't rare enough, this particular one retains it's numbers matching original engine, transmission, and rear axle. This car comes stacked full of interesting documentation that every car buyer dreams of! It even has an original gate release! It was purchased from the original family roughly 4 months ago. Upon winning the auction and making payment in full, all of this documentation will become available to you. Out of respect for the privacy of the previous owner I will not put that out here in the internet. The car itself in the vintage muscle car rating scale is a 3. It runs strong, shifts ok, brakes are good but could use a front ball joint and steering kit to tighten that back up a bit. There is also a small manifold exhaust leak that would be fixed with the replacement of the steel shim gasket. The only thing missing under the hood is the air cleaner snorkle tube. We were told it was painted back in the early 90's and we have reciept for engine parts and machine work showing the engine was rebuilt roughly around 1980/81. As far as we can tell it does have all of it's original sheetmetal and that sheetmetal is in really nice condition. There is 1 rust spot about 1" high by 2" long at the bottom front edge of the 1/4 panel behind the drivers door that will need to be patched. Interior I would actually go so far as to say is an 8 out of a 10. The 3 things that need to be corrected are a cig burn in the center console, aftermarket gauges were installed in the dash bezel, and the cig lighter was relocated to the glove box so there is a hole in the glove box liner as a result. I have purchased a really nice original correct turned metal dash bezel for it and original glove box liner to fix those issues and if the burn bothers you your local upholstery shop should be able to recover the console to look good as new. The trunk I would say is all original and very solid. It does show age but looks very good yet. The original spare tire, jack base, stud, and wing nut are ther but the mast and wrench are missing. The original honeycomb wheels are in good shape with only some minor cracking in the urethane coating. Overall the car with a little tlc would be a great car for somebody to enjoy many warm summer days worth of fun. Because nothing has the stump pulling torque of a 455 in the small Trans Am platform! Please feel free to contact me with any more questions you might have. Also available is transport at of fee of $1.50/mi if interested. |

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod
Fri, 21 Feb 2014There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car
Fri, 17 Oct 2014Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.
GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes
Mon, 31 Mar 2014When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:
