1971 Pontiac Trans Am T/a Transam 455 H/o Pontiac Historical Society Documented on 2040-cars

Year:1971 Mileage:100000
Location:

Birmingham, Alabama, United States

Birmingham, Alabama, United States

I've had this car for a few years, and it has been babied in a climate controlled space. It has not seen water since I have owned it, and it has been driven no more than 10 miles in a day, over the last few years. This car is a very-nice, restored, cruiser, that really grabs attention, anywhere it goes. If you know Trans AM's, you know this is a rare bird that not only has great upside because it is a second generation T/A, but because of the popularity of the Smokey and the bandit T/A's. This is the bandit predecessor, and is a 1 of 2100 production model. This car is just flat out sexy and from all of the ladies that stop in to hang out in our shop (We have a vintage shop,) they are always drawn to this one.

THIS CAR RUNS very nicely. It starts quickly, idles nicely, handles well, and stops on a dime. I do not believe it has the original oval port heads, and I have not had time to source them for install. I'd recommend putting different heads on it, in lieu of the oval ports, for durability sake. This is a 455, but is not the original block, to my knowledge. It't a rare car, and just incredibly hard to find a numbers matching version. If you do, it pushes 6 figures. This car has a reserve that is reflective of that concession.

Everyone's going to want to know what the reserve is, but I'm not inclined to disclose. I know how to buy cars at a fair price. I also know how to sell cars at a fair price that gives the buyer some upside. This car has a lot of equity left in it, if you want to create some upside. I don't think you will lose money on this car. I will sell this car at a fair price. If you are a real car collector, you know where I'm coming from. Tire kickers need not waste my time, and on the flip side, if you want to come to Birmingham to drive it or send someone to inspect it, please feel free.

I don't have time to baby my collection of cars. I have many muscle cars, and I am thinning my herd. I also have a 71 T/A and a 66 GT 350 in separate auctions. I also have a 72 C10 Fleetside and a 69 VW BUS.

This car has been restored, but because of the extra set of Torque Thrusts, which are wider, this car handles really well and looks more like an awesome resto-mod. Do you agree? It's a really exceptional looking version of a 70-74 model T/A. It also has a Super Duty carb.

I really love this car and have taken great care of it, but business comes first.

In case you did not know, Woodside Credit will loan money to you, if you have decent credit, and their rates are good too. Just a heads up: You don't have to borrow the kids college money to own this car. Just cut down on the beer and chips a little and you'll be able to make your monthly payment. I'm kidding, but seriously, this car is a good investment!

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.

Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit

Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
