1973 Pontiac Grandam on 2040-cars

Bellevue, Nebraska, United States

got a 73 Pontiac grandam up for sale. bought this at an auction, was told that this sat indoor storage for over 20 years. odometer reads 66,000.  restoration had already been started. from what I was told, this was a white car with burgundy interior. it is now silver with black interior. the paint looks good but I don't think much time was spent on making sure car was straight before it was painted. several flaws under the paint. there is no where on here you still see white paint. the hood does have what I'm calling some hail dents. not sure if that's what happened. maybe those can be worked out. one pic shows small dent between the passenger window and louvered  window. new full lenth 1/4 plus outer wheel wells on both side. I do have the wheel well moulding which look all most new. new weather stripping all the way around, trunk, doors, windows. do have a set of window felt for upper door panels. dash has no cracks, has original radio but don't work. package tray was redone with new 6x9 speakers. all this needs is to have the front bucket seats recovered and a new head liner. both are on ebay.  the dash and drivers kick panel were painted black.  rest of interior was replaced with original black parts. there is no rust on this car.  trunk looks like it did when new. has the original spare tire. new duel exhaust, looks like motor was rebuilt. started life as a 2 bbl, now has a 4bbl.  carb # 7043264 jc 0273 which was also rebuilt with electric  choke which is not hooked up, no power going to it.  this car runs and drives like new. new 4 core radiator. new fiberglass front facia. new black carpet. tires are near new.  radial gt grandam  225/70/15 and 275/60/15. with what I believe are cragar  rims.  once the headliner gets replaced, the remainder of the interior trim can get installed.  you take care of shipping details. I will help out shipper the best I can.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

2008-2009 Pontiac G8 recalled over airbag concern

Mon, 07 Nov 2011

General Motors is recalling around 38,000 Pontiac G8 sedans from its 2008 and 2009 model years. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the cars may have a passenger-side airbag flaw that might prevent proper deployment in certain scenarios.
According to NHTSA, the airbag might not adequately protect a fifth percentile woman - that is, a woman around four-foot, 11-inches weighing 108 pounds. The New York Times indicates that the anomaly was found during a crash test conducted by GM's Australian branch, Holden, which was testing the G8's twin (read: Commodore) for head injuries. According to that report, the test in question is specifically tailored to simulate injuries to females, so the results do not apply to men or children.
The issue has been blamed on a seat position sensor that governs airbag deployment rates. NHTSA indicates that when the front passenger seat is moved all the way forward, the faulty sensor may inappropriately trigger a 30-millisecond delay between airbag stages, potentially leading to greater injuries.

Saturn Vue ignition switch leads to new group of GM recalls totaling 312k

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

General Motors has another spate of recalls to announce. This time they cover 312,280 vehicles worldwide, including 269,041 of in the US, in a total of six campaigns. In 2014, the automaker has recalled 29,079,765 vehicles worldwide, with 25,754,356 of those in the US.
The largest among them covers 215,243 units of the Saturn Vue from 2002-2004 model years worldwide, 202,115 in the US. It's possible for the for the key to be removed even when the ignition isn't in the OFF position. The company knows of two crashes and one injury caused by this problem. Dealers are checking the parts and replacing the ignition cylinder and key set, if necessary.
Next is 72,826 models worldwide (48,059 vehicles in the US) of the 2013 Cadillac ATS four-door sedan, 2013 Buick Encore and 2013 Chevy Trax in Canada. It's possible that the for lap belt pretensioner to retract but not to lock, which could increase occupant movement during a crash. Both front, outboard lap belt pretensioners are being replaced, and a stop-sale is in effect on unsold models until the problem is repaired. There are no known crashes or injuries, though.
