This is the ONLY Pontiac Firebird that Callaway Cars put the entire  C8 Supernatural package on (approximately 55 Supernatural Camaros were built). Shipped directly from GM to Old Lyme, it was built at the Callaway plant. The car was featured, by Callaway, in a promotional article in August 1997 Sports Car International magazine. It includes the Supernatural 400/383 cu in engine sporting a forged steel crank, CNC machined heads with matched combustion chambers and Callaway cam; 1.5” lowered suspension upgrade with stronger trailing arms, Eibach springs, stiffer anti roll bars and Koni shocks; Callaway/Brembo brakes with 4 piston calipers and 13” cross-drilled rotors; Supernatural Tri-Y ceramic coated headers; Honker air intake system and Bridgestone 275/40ZR17 tires. It was painted by Callaway Cars in Glazurit paint to the original Pontiac Aqua color. Originally delivered, new, in March 1995, it was returned to Callaway Cars for the 435hp upgrade in January 1997. The car is original, in excellent condition with all original documentation, including engine dyno sheets and shipping papers. This car is known and remembered by Callaway Cars today.

I am the original owner. Car drives beautiful, well balanced. Engine smooth and strong. There is some drivetrain vibration due to installation of 3.70 posi-traction differential gears. I never worked out the vibrations. Also, ABS is inop. The car was ordered with every option including T-Tops, 10 speaker Radio/CD sound system, cruise control, 6 speed Borg Warner manual transmission, steering wheel accessory controls and leather interior. All accessories work and A/C is cold. Never driven in rain. Always a Southern California car. No expense spared on maintenance. Original mileage 66,140.

Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.
