Up for auction is a 1972 Plymouth Duster that is in SURVIVOR condition.  It retains it's original paint, interior, glass,drivetrain, fender tag and build sheet.  The current actual mileage is 48,185 and has had only four documented owners.  The original owner ordered this car from Schwartzwald Chrysler Plymouth Inc. of Alexandria, Minnesota and kept it until 1998.

DESCRIPTION OF CAR

   Body:  All original body panels and FY1 Lemon Twist paint.  There are some small paint chips and door dings and some light surface rust on the bottom of the rockers.  The paint has a nice gloss to it.  The car is factory undercoated, as ordered.  The 340 stripes were added by the second owner, the car was ordered with body side molding which deleted the stripe.  The bumpers are original.  The wheel lip moldings were added by the dealer after delivery.  The black hood paint is thin at the cowl, but still presentable.

   Drivetrain:  Numbers matching 340 V-8 and 4-speed transmission with a 3.23 sure grip differential.  The original owner added headers two weeks after taking delivery of the car.  The second owner replaced the headers & exhaust system with a modern TTI aluminized exhaust system and at that time added a mini starter.  The heater core, water pump, spark plugs, filters and carburator have been either replaced or rebuilt by previous owners. Within the last 6 months, I replaced the fuel pump, 2 freeze plugs, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing as the original finally went bad.  Engine compartment still retains it's original carburator, hoses, alternator, radiator, fan, voltage regulator, distributor and ignition box.

   Suspension:  The rear springs have been replaced and the drive shaft has been balanced.  Upper and lower control arm bushings, idler arm and shocks were replaced and the car has been aligned.  The brake system has been rebuilt and within the last 6 months it was again inspected and the brake fluid was flushed.

   Wheels:  Rallye wheels with E70-14 RWL bias ply tires are on the car now, but this car was ordered with the steel wheels, hubcaps and blackwall tires.

   Interior:  100% original. The bench seat on the driver side has a 1" section where the seam is starting to separate.  The tach was added by the original owner and remains on the car today.  Everything electrical is in working order, even down to the seatbelt and door buzzers.

  Trunk:  Has it's orginal bumper jack and hardware.  The trunk mat and fiberboard have been replaced.  The spare tire is original, but has been on the ground. There is no rust in the spare tire well.

  Options:  AM radio with rear speaker and fader switch, power disc brakes, 4-speed transmission, manual steering, FY1 Lemon Twist paint, black performance hood paint and the vinyl body side molding.

Items that will be included with the sale of the car are:

   Original Items:  14" steel wheels (4 each), 4 hubcaps, tire, heater core, fuel pump, starter, exhaust manifolds and hardware, exhaust tips, body side molding and fan belt.

  New Items:  Factory reproduction exhaust tips, head pipes for the stock manifolds that will work with the TTI exhaust system, 1 pint of black hood paint, car cover, cooling hose set, fan belt and radiator clamps.

Again, this is a highly documented car with known owner history.  Actual mileage is stated on the title, and good amount of documentation including selling dealership information, picture history and repair receipts are included.  The car has been featured in three publications and was invited to participate in the survivor tent at Chryslers at Carlisle in 2010.  This car has been very well cared for by all of it's owners and runs & drives as it should.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
