Thief River Falls, Minnesota, United States

Up for grabs is a very nice Oldsmobile 88 sedan.  Car originated from North Dakota and is overall very solid.  Car was sitting in a barn since 1990 and I purchased it in the fall of 2012.  Car was way too nice to let go and I decided to bring it back to life. Driver side front floor pan has small amount of rust that was patched prior to my ownership.  Due to this car originating from the Dakota's, it is overall very solid.  I have been working on the car off and on and have now decided to move onto something new but older.  When I purchased this car the engine was stuck from sitting.  Engine/tranny was pulled and disassembled for a complete rebuild.  Block was bored .30 and engine received a complete rebuilt master rebuild from top to bottom.  Crank/rods/mains were all ground .10.  New everything and I mean everything.  All parts were cleaned/blasted, primed and painted and reassembled with care.  Heads were also rebuilt.  Tranny was rebuilt in a local tranny shop with a complete kit.

There has been a lot of detail work done on the engine compartment.  A new radiator was built using the original tanks and a new core.  This car shoul never have cooling issues.  All radiator and heater hoses have been replaced.  All fittings/lines have been rebuilt or replaced.  Purchased new fuel pump and updated lines. New fuel tank, filler tube, sending unit and  filters.   Carb was completely rebuilt.  Power brake booster was sent off and completely rebuilt.  Brakes have all been completely rebuilt in including all new wheel cylinders, brake shoes and flex lines.   Exhaust is in good condition and sounds great.  Exhaust manifolds were cleaned blasted/painted with Eastwood manifold paint and reassembled with new gaskets.  New battery and hold down.   Car has been converted from generator to alternator  using a new one wire alternator.  New plugs/wires/coil and converted distributor to electronic ignition using a Pertronix conversion kit.  Car has good radial tires on original rims with hubcaps.  The original rims were removed sandblasted/painted and put back on the car.  Trunk area is original and very solid.  Trunk cardboard on the sides and behind the seat. Original burlap style trunk mat is in place.  I think the jack is in the car is the original?

Prior to my ownership and at least 25 years ago, someone re-did the seats/headliner and carpet in this car.  They did a nice job and the interior is still very presentable.  Headliner has some spots and a couple small holes.  Door panels are original and very presentable, but do show some wear.  Carpet is very nice and could use a good cleaning, but overall very nice.  Car has duel exhaust and the original fender skirts.  Chrome Paint and stainless on the car is nice driver quality.   Bumpers have a few bad spots, but overall nice.  The paint on this car has been there for a long time and is not perfect.  Darker green paint has some light spots and the lighter green has scratches and chips.  Car really does look nice but problem areas need to be discussed.  Problem spots on the car were included in the photos.  I have tried to describe the car to the best of my ability but have more than likely forgot a few things that I purchased for the car.  The photos show the car pretty well, but please ask questions regarding any issue you may have concerning this cool cruiser.

There has been a lot of work done on this car since my purchase and there really is too much too list.  All work done was to ensure that this car was a dependable driver.  Car is not a perfect car like most and will require some tinkering to make it yours.   Wipers have not been addressed yet and the heater motor has not been cleaned and wired.  Glass is overall nice, but has a few chips/spots.   FYI:  This car is prior to park in transmissions and the parking brake is your park.  Parking brake works well along with the brake lights, headlights and turn signals.

Car is overall a very nice cruiser.  Car currently has a clear title.

Car is for sale worldwide, but payment will need to be through a certified US Bank.  Payment will require a $500 deposit within 24 hours via paypal followed by full payment within 7 days of end of auction.  Full payment to be made by wire transfer, cash or certified bank check which will be verified.  Upon payment clearing, vehicle will be released.  Vehicle needs to be picked up  within 21 days of end of auction or as agreed upon by the seller.

Buyer responsible for any transportation arrangements or costs.

This auto is for sale as/is with a clear title and a hand shake.  There are no warranties, guarantees or returns.  Ask questions prior to bidding.

Jay Leno bangs up his own Toronado in GT6

Wed, 11 Dec 2013

Ever since Gran Turismo 4, Jay Leno has had at least one of his cars included in the popular racing simulator (starting with the Tank Car), and more of his machines appears in Gran Turismo 6. They include this nose-heavy, front-wheel-drive V8-powered muscle car. Yes, that aptly describes a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado - except Leno's is rear-wheel drive. And it has a Cadillac CTS-V race engine modified to pump out 1,070 horsepower.
For the latest Jay Leno's Garage episode, he takes his real Toronado out for a cruise and then drives the virtual one like he stole it, accruing some body damage along the way. Leno also drives the virtual supercar Mercedes-Benz designed for GT6, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept that debuted at the LA Auto Show, along with the real one, which is a 1:1-scale model. The model is radio-controlled and equipped with a small electric motor, sufficient to move it on and off of auto show floors.
Head below to watch the episode, which includes a few words from GT6 creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

Wed, 18 Jun 2014

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]

Thu, 09 Oct 2014

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
