Up for grabs is a 1976 Mini Cooper Classic that was updated/rebuilt a few years ago by a previous owner with all the mechanical and interior items from a late 1990's low mileage Japanese spec Mini Cooper Classic with A/C.  The odometer reading is correct for the mileage on the engine and running gear from the Japanese donor car.  Items that I have taken care since owning the car:
-New front and rear window seals
-Dash recovered
-New Radio
-Driver's seat rail extensions---I am 6' tall and have no problem driving the car for long distances.
-Rebuilt the heater with new heater radiator and updated fan.
-Rebuilt alternator
-Recent Tune up including new spark plugs, wires, belt and air filter
-Coolant system flushed
-New rubber floor mats

Only item that was not fully hooked up during the rebuild of the car by the previous owner was the Air Bag, but I was told everything is in place if someone was interested in having it completed.  Only flaws in the paint are rock chips on the rear wheel arches on both sides, otherwise the paint looks great including the racing strips.  The car gets great gas mileage in the mid 30's and is a blast to drive.  Several spare items come with the car including oil filters, air filter, fuel filter and a few hard to find electrical items for the fuel injected engine.I would feel comfortable driving this car anywhere and if the future owner wishes to fly into to drive the car home the closest Airport is in Redmond Oregon and I would be happy to pick you up.  Car has a free and clear title in my name and the only reason I am selling this car is that I have found another toy that needs its garage space.  Let me know if there are any questions or additional photos needed.  Also I will give the winning bidder the option to purchase the correct service computer for the car for $500.00.  Happy Bidding!

New Zealand SPCA teaches rescue dogs how to drive a Mini

Wed, 12 Dec 2012

No, this isn't an April Fool's joke or some sort of wacky car commercial. It's the SPCA Auckland (located in New Zealand) coming up with an innovative way of proving that it's possible to teach a rescue animal new tricks. Monty, Porter and Ginny are all dogs rescued by the SPCA Auckland, and each was taught the ability to drive a Mini Countryman around a track.
After being strapped into the driver's seat, the dogs are able to use their paws to start the car, steer it and work the gas and brake, which have been modified similar to a car setup for a special-needs driver. These dogs aren't being trained to drive on the street as any sort of driving-eye dogs, rather it is just a demonstration of how smart and docile rescue dogs can be regardless of how they ended up there. Porter was found wandering the streets, Ginny was abused by her owners and seized by the SPCA and Monty was surrendered by his owners to the rescue. Ironically, Porter and Ginny initially got carsick during the exercises, but have since gotten over this.
Think it's a joke? Scroll down to watch four videos showing the dogs in action and another to see what mods were made to get the Mini ready for canine duty. In the first video, you can also see that Porter does a better parking job than most humans!

Mini ditches four-seat Countryman

Wed, 10 Oct 2012

Mini is walking away from the rear bucket seats in its Countryman crossover. MotoringFile.com reports that starting in 2013, the CUV will no longer offer just two seats in the second row. Originally, Mini was forced to offer the buckets due to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rules governing the the minimum vehicle width for the allowance of three-wide seating. That rule was recently changed, which allowed Mini to offer the bench seat. Not surprisingly, few buyers have opted for the awkward bucket-and-rail configuration since. Moving forward, all Countryman models will also come with the vehicle's flat-load rear floor as well.
During our time with our long-term Countryman, we found the middle rail between the two buckets to be a bit gimmicky, especially given the fact that the cup holders were only large enough to accommodate a 12-ounce can.

Mini locks out the podium at Dakar Rally

Tue, 21 Jan 2014

Motor racing is often overcome by dominant forces. In Formula One these days, it's all about Red Bull. Le Mans is absolutely dominated by Audi. Citroën devastated the World Rally Championship for years. And the Dakar Rally is no exception to that particular rule, either.
The Mitsubishi Pajero won the event seven years in a row and many times before that. Then Volkswagen took the lead, winning three years running with competition-spec Touaregs once the rally shifted from North Africa to South America in 2009. But these days it's Mini that dominates.
The Mini All4 Racing team won in 2012, again in 2013 and has just won it again for 2014. Not only did it win again, but it took a devastating 1-2-3 finish to lock out the podium. Over the course of 13 days, Minis won 11 out of 13 of the total stages that make up the grueling rally, at the end of which Nasser Al-Attiyah crossed the line in third, Stéphane Peterhansel finished second, and just five minutes ahead of him, Nani Roma crossed the finish line in Valparaíso in first place. (Of course it didn't hurt that there were no fewer than 11 Minis entered in this year's rally, but still.)
