1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone on 2040-cars

Year:1964 Mileage:54086
Location:

Vienna, Virginia, United States

Vienna, Virginia, United States

1964 Comet Cyclone: Only 7,454 of these were made.  How many would you guess are left? Only one year of this body style was ever built.

This car's Data Plate: 63E (2dr.Cyclone) J(Carnival Red) 05 (White interior) A28 (Jan.28 build) 22 (Dallas Texas) 1 (310 to 1) 6 (3 Speed Automatic)

This car runs and drives like new. The engine and three speed automatic transmission were rebuilt. The exhaust is new with stainless mufflers and tips, and has a fabulous sound. The list or things done to it is endless but include: Petronics, tires, brakes and lines, radiator and shroud, heater core, halogen headlights, belts, hoses, generator, regulator, brake solenoid, seat belts, battery, and more.  The undercarriage was so excellent  that it has been cleaned and painted. (Pre-paint undercarriage pictures are available) You'll be impressed with the detailing and overall integrity of the lines and body. The older paint  is buffed to a beautiful luster- not perfect but is excellent and gets a ton of compliments. The chrome is in excellent condition and the front bumper may have been re-chromed. Back bumper is very nice original. The headliner is original.  As you can see, the door and trunk gaskets have been replaced. The interior is excellent having been reupholstered at some point and shows very little wear.  The title and odometer show that the car has 54k miles and it looks and feels believable, although I would not represent a car this old as original miles. This is a rust free, drive anywhere no-nonsense car that is as unique as it is beautiful. The Carnival Red color is really rich, and has various looks depending on the light as you can see from the pictures.

If you are looking for a car that will stand out in any meet or show, this is one to be proud of.  You will, more than likely not see others in this kind of condition.  I believe that if you search the country, you won't find another one like it as of this writing for sale. The car is being sold where is, as-is with no warrantee expressed or implied.  I recommend you come see it prior to bidding. The car is not advertised anywhere else, but I reserve the right to end the auction at any time prior to it hitting my reserve. Everything but the tachometer and cigarette lighter works including the AM radio.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible

Wed, 31 Aug 2011

Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey

Wed, 09 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.
