EXTREMELY NICE ORIGINAL 1985 MERCEDES 380SL CONVERTIBLE.2 OWNER CALIFORNIA CAR.IT WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AT THE HOUSE OF IMPORTS IN BUENA PARK.I DO HAVE ALL THE BOOKS,MANUALS,AND MAINTENANCE RECORDS.2 ORIGINAL FACTORY KEYS.THE CAR JUST PASSED SMOG WITH GREAT READINGS.THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS JUST REPLACED AS IT WAS NECESSARY TO PASS SMOG.THE CAR RUNS PERFECTLY.IT IS SO SMOOTH AND QUIET,YOU CAN HARDLY HEAR IT RUN.THE CAR DRIVES DOWN THE ROAD PERFECTLY.NO PLAY IN THE STEERING.TRANSMISSION SHIFTS IN ALL GEARS PROPERLY.BRAKES AND SUSPENSION ARE INCREDIBLY SURE FOOTED.IT WOULD MAKE ANY KIND DRIVE WITH NO PROBLEMS.CLIMATE CONTROL FOR A/C AND HEATING OPERATE VERY WELL.IT DOES HAVE ANT-LOCK BRAKES.THIS IS THE LAST YEAR FOR THE 380SL MODEL,SO IT CAME STANDARD WITH THE HEAVY DUTY DUAL TIMING CHAIN. THE PAINT IS METALLIC BLACK,CODE #199,WHICH MANY CALL PEARL BLACK.IT IS VERY RARE FOR THE 1985 MODEL. IT BECAME A STANDARD COLOR IN THE 560SL MODELS.GORGEOUS PAINT.YOU WON'T FIND MUCH OF ANY DEFECTS ON THE CAR.NO RUST.NO ACCIDENTS.ALWAYS KEPT INSIDE.I HAVE THE MATCHING HARDTOP.IT IS IN GREAT SHAPE.PERFECT HEADLINER. PALOMINO INTERIOR IS SUPER CLEAN AND IN AMAZING CONDITION,ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN DONE TO IT.IT STILL LOOKS AS GOOD AS IT DID WHEN IT WAS 2-3 YEARS OLD.NICE ORIGINAL DASH.SEATS HAVE NO WEAR.STAIN-FREE CARPETS.IT ALSO HAS A NICE BLACK CANVAS CONVERTIBLE TOP.NICE REAR WINDOWS YOU CAN STILL SEE THROUGH PERFECTLY.NO WEAR MARKS ON THE CANVAS. BUMPERS,INCLUDING THE STAINLESS AND RUBBERS, HAVE ALMOST NO WEAR.THE REST OF THE TRIM ON THE CAR ARE IN MATCHING CONDITION.ORIGINAL CHROME MERCEDES RIMS ARE IN SUPER SHAPE.NO FADING OR PITTING. XCAR marks 20-year anniversary of Senna's passing with Mercedes 190E Cosworth
Thu, 01 May 2014While the automotive world is focusing on the twentieth anniversary of Ayrton Senna's death, there was much, much more to the legendary driver than his untimely passing at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
XCAR has the story of a younger Senna, who, by a stroke of luck, found himself matched up against a veritable dream team of nine Formula One champions, not to mention a cadre of German touring car aces. A "probably still pissed (drunk)" James Hunt, hard-driving Niki Lauda and future champion and rival Alain Prost, were in attendance for the one-off, spec race, which was put on by Mercedes-Benz, in honor of the opening of the Nürburgring's Grand Prix circuit. And Senna was on hand with the explicit goal of besting them all.
Each driver was handed a lightly modified, but brand-new 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, a car that can best be though of as the distant ancestor of the lovable C63 AMG. As for the race itself, well, it was sort of like an introduction of what the sport could come to expect from the Brazilian.

Mon, 15 Jul 2013The sole purpose of this post is as a time-waster, and since you shouldn't have to work to waste time, we've done it for you. In the numerous videos below you'll find cars that have lately been in the news tramping all over the grounds of Lord March's estate in Goodwood, England.
There's the McLaren P1 heading up the hill, the Jaguar Project 7, then a casually-driven Porsche 917 followed by an even-more-casually-driven Porsche 956, topped off by a Porsche 936 that is anything but casually driven. The next round is the flame-spitting Peugeot 405 T16 Pikes Peak from Climb Dance, a camera mounted on the Peugeot RCZ R after it showing you what the whole, uninterrupted run up the hill looks like. For a real head-turner, we couldn't embed it but there's Andy Reid blasting up the hill in a Ford Transit Supervan with a Cosworth 3000 V6 engine.
The modern racing contingent has Allan McNish doing the hill in the Audi R18 e-tron quattro he used to win Le Mans and Lewis Hamilton making lots of tire smoke in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas MGP-W02. For comparison, that's followed by Nick Heidfeld's record-setting run up the hill in 1999 in the McLaren MP4/14 . The classic racing contingent is headlined by 71-year-old Giacomo Agostini on an MV Agusta.

Mon, 23 Sep 2013The Singapore Formula One Grand Prix is the Monaco GP of the Orient - a weekend known more for its glamour and time-slot than on-track action, with a temporary circuit that punishes every mistake, usually terminally.
Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas got the best of Free Practice 1, opening the curtain on a possible resurgence of Silver Arrows performance. By the time qualifying was done, though, it was his teammate Nico Rosberg who lined up second on the grid, followed by Romain Grosjean with a beautiful performance in the Lotus, Mark Webber in the Infiniti Red Bull, and Hamilton all the way back in fifth. Behind them were Felipe Massa outqualifying Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button getting the McLaren into eighth, Daniel Ricciardo with another good Q3 effort to get into ninth, and the shocker of Esteban Gutiérrez getting his Sauber into the top ten for the first time this year.
At the front of the pack was Sebastian Vettel. Again. But he was only ahead of Rosberg by a single tenth of a second...
