This auction is for a 1991 Mercedes Benz 350SD. The Mercedes has 452,572 miles on the chassis and body, however, the original engine was replaced at about 250,000 miles with a brand new Mercedes Benz 6 cylinder diesel engine that now has about 200,000 miles on it and many would say is just now broken in. This engine was installed at the top Mercedes Benz mechanic in Wilmington, Delaware, Ezio's Car Care. Ezio is a Mercedes Benz mechanic exclusively and has maintained this vehicle since my father bought it in 1997. This car is owned by my father but I am handling the listing for him.
The replacement engine in this Mercedes is the upgraded version with improved connecting rods and internal components. The original engine was replaced at Ezio's suggestion when it started to use oil. The original version of this engine was known for using oil. This replacement engine runs smoothly, burns no oil, does not smoke and has ample power. I will describe this beautiful Mercedes as accurately as possible. If you have any questions, please ask. Plenty of power in this heavy luxury sedan yet still gets about 26-30 mpg around town with the a/c on. * Automatic transmission with rear wheel drive. Transmission shifts smoothly between all gears. * Power windows, seats, mirrors, steering, and brakes. Heat and memory function for both front seats. * Recently repainted in original maroon colour with tan leather interior. * Regularly maintained and serviced. We have most of the service records including record of engine replacement. * Ten stacker CD changer in trunk with a Kenwood stereo/head unit. * Tires were replaced last year and are in good shape with plenty of tread left on them. * Oil changed within the last week and every 5,000 miles before that. * Rear shocks recently replaced. Front shocks replaced within the past year. * New brakes on all four corners within the last year. * All switches, gauges, and components working except for sun roof (described below). * Interior and exterior trim pieces are generally in good repair and firmly attached. * Starts immediately as soon as glow plug light goes out. * Air conditioning serviced in April, 2014. * All the seats and dash are in great condition with no holes, rips, cracks, or tears. * Battery replaced last year, 2013. Flaws: * There are some dings under the new paint on the left front door and left rear door. * Some paint overspray on a few of the trim pieces. * Sunroof does not open. Bracket on drivers side track is broken. * Front bumper has some rust and could use replacing. (See image) * Small area of rust with bubbles on the left quarter panel at the bumper. (See image) * Head lights have some stone chips. * Centre arm rest worn. * Slight cracking on a few of the interior wood trim pieces. * Radio antennae does not extend. Firing of M-B boss upheld
Mon, 15 Jul 2013Ernst Lieb, the disgraced former CEO of American operations for Mercedes-Benz, will not be getting any more money from the Silver Arrow'd teat. His wrongful dismissal suit against MB's parent company, Daimler, was tossed out of a German appeals panel. This, followed the initial rejection by a lower court last year.
According to court documents acquired by Automotive News, Lieb was found to have "accepted payments of substantial value to which he - as he was aware - had no claim."
Lieb took over American operations from former CEO Paul Halata in September of 2006. Reports surfaced in October of 2011 that Lieb was dismissed from his posting at MB, with a variety of rumors swirling. Eventually, news broke that financial wrong doing was responsible for the German's firing.
European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
Does Alex Rodriguez' Mercedes dealership have a PR problem?
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Alex Rodriguez, in case you haven't heard, is seemingly the new Most Hated Man In Baseball, ostensibly replacing commissioner Bud Selig (for now). Rodriguez was slammed with a 211-game suspension due to his role in the MLB's latest steroid scandal in which "A-Roid," as fans have taken to calling the former superstar, was cited with steroid use and attempts to hide his involvement by "engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate" the investigation, according to the MLB's official report.
Why is this on a car site, then? Because Rodriguez' name is attached Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz in League City, TX. An Ad Age report cites Mercedes-Benz USA in saying that A-Rod owns "about half'" of the dealership. Mercedes, for what it's worth, isn't going to any to any lengths to distance itself from its dealership or its controversial namesake, saying, "We never promoted the fact that A-Rod owned a dealership, so there's really nothing to 'distance' ourselves from. And since his activity is not illegal but rather prohibited by MLB, there's nothing actionable here."
With the scandal still a fresh piece of news and A-Rod's pending appeal, it's difficult to tell what sort of effect, if any, his name will have on the dealership's sales. Ad Age contacted the GM of Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz to get the dealership's view, but no calls were returned. According to Mercedes, any name change is up to Rodriguez and his partner(s) at the dealership. Somehow, though, we think A-Rod has other things to worry about beyond his dealership's name.
