1985 Mercedes 280se Rare Euro Model, Low Miles, Clean, Cold A/c, S-class on 2040-cars
Willoughby, Ohio, United States
This is a NO RESERVE listing. This is a rare European model that was imported to this country by a doctor when it was new. This model was not sold in the US but Mercedes-Benz still supports it and parts are available. This car is unique in that it has the European-spec high-horsepower 2.8L Twin-Cam fuel-injected Inline-6 engine. This engine makes an outstanding (for the time) 185 HP and still gets superb fuel economy. This car has a US VIN and it is registered and plated in Ohio. It has a clean and clear OH title ready to transfer. The gauges are in miles per hour and everything is marked in English. The US-model S-class cars were nice, but they had cosmetic and performance modifications that make them less appealing than their European counterparts. I particularly like the European bumpers which are much more attractive than the big heavy US model bumpers. Finding a Euro model here in the US is hard since they were extremely expensive to bring over. This car was brought over new by a doctor. This car is autobahn-ready. It is a smooth, powerful and quick car that doesn't have any of the US performance-robbing mods and was built the way Mercedes-Benz intended. This car has the following equipment:
This is a tight, nimble car that drives like a much smaller vehicle. This was the top-of-the-range full size car but it is quick and great-handling. The engine is smooth, quiet and powerful and it runs beautifully. The transmission shifts great and the car drives very well. It doesn't have any known mechanical problems or issues. I don't see any reason why this car couldn't make a long drive anywhere. The interior is clean and in very nice condition. The upholstery is a European-only cloth that you won't find in US-spec cars. The seats, carpets and interior are all clean and nice with no undue wear. I have just had the car serviced and replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil and electronic ignition module. Other recent work includes brakes and a recent oil and filter change. This car runs very well. The air conditioning is working and the sunroof opens and closes properly. All of the gauges are working. The paint and body are clean and in nice shape. The paint still carries a shine and looks nice. The aluminum wheels are in good condition. This is a very presentable, clean car. The vehicle VIN is WDB1260221A128375. This is a foreign imported vehicle. This is a 29 year old car and as such it isn't perfect or brand new. Here is a list of every known issue: The passenger door power window isn't working. Some of the wooden dash trim is cracked and broken. The left rear corner of the car had a shopping car dent and has been repainted. The rest of the paint appears to be original and is in very presentable condition. The tires are older but have good tread. The edges of the rear bumper have a few corrosion holes which is common with these cars. The ABS light seems to be on most (not all) of the time but the brakes stop very well. This is not a cosmetically perfect car but it looks very nice for a 29-year-old car. It has been very well kept. This car is kept inside my climate-controlled garage in Willoughby, OH. For shipping please contact Angels Moving Autos at 530 245 0481. Questions, please email me or call/text me at 440 339 4341. Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA gets official ahead of Shanghai
Thu, 18 Apr 2013Mercedes-Benz has something special planned for the Shanghai Motor Show - a new CUV concept that we first saw when it leaked on the internet yesterday. The GLA Concept compact crossover will hit the show stand with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive, and likely previews a new production model that we've already spotted testing.
That's not news, but the laser-based headlamps with video-projecting capability certainly are. Mercedes-Benz says the array can project any image or video onto a screen, which is handy since there are a pair of HD cameras mounted to the roof rack. The cameras can be removed and taken with you on all sorts of adventures. The lamps also feature a visible cooling system comprised of a series of fans, and the system helps give the headlights their "sparkle" effect.
Step indoors and the GLA offers up the interior of a high-quality crossover, complete with contrasting leather and plenty of aluminum. The automaker says the cabin was inspired by saddle craftsmanship with "more than 65 feet of hand-stitched seams to hold the raw edges of the leather together."
European automakers gear up for Brazilian production
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.
Aston Martin and Mercedes-AMG formalize technical partnership
Thu, 19 Dec 2013The development of a partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin has been a long time coming. The news dates back to 2008, and over the five years since was supposed to lead to a rejuvenation of both the Maybach and Lagonda brands. That program ultimately fell apart, but the tie-in was forged afresh in July when the two automakers signed a letter of intent over a renewed partnership. And now that partnership has been formalized.
In a deal just announced, Mercedes-AMG will build a new V8 engine for Aston Martin that will power a new generation of luxury GTs for the British marque, presumably to replace the 4.7-liter V8 in the Vantage. The relationship appears to be similar to the one already in place between AMG and Pagani, only in this case, will involve Daimler taking as much as a five-percent stake in Aston Martin and an observer seat on Aston's board.
The technical partnership is also set to lead to the supply of electric and electronic systems, and could incorporate "additional areas of cooperation in the future." Whether that will include a fresh attempt at reviving Lagonda remains to be seen, as does the future of Aston's long-serving, Ford-based 6.0-liter V12 engine. But for now you can read the full announcement below.
