Extremely low mileage, flawless condition E55 with RENNtech upgrades and HRE 560C modular 3-piece aluminum wheels. Without exception, every system on the car works as it should, from the interior switches to the suspension. All original documentation is present: owner's manual, maintenance manual, etc. All service work is up to date. The RENNtech upgrades, detailed below, were installed prior to delivery to the original owner in Beverly Hills, CA.

Exterior: The car has never been hit and the paint was buffed to remove any hints of orange peel when new. The finish is spectacular.

Interior: As stock, with light grey Alcantara headliner and A-pillar dressing. Sunroof. Pedals are genuine AMG stainless steel cover for throttle, brake and e-brake. Genuine AMG-logo carpet mats. Upon delivery to the original owner, the OEM Becker radio was removed and replaced with what is still today a state-of-the-art Kenwood DNX-8120 touchscreen audio and bluetooth-integrated cell phone system with integrated Garmin navigation. The unit is updated with the latest Garmin map data. The sound is absolutely jaw dropping. The Kenwood Operator's Manual is included. The steering wheel audio and telephone buttons function with the Kenwood unit. The windows are OEM factory tinted with the darkest shade offered by Mercedes Benz.

Engine: The ECU was updated with the appropriate RENNtech map when new AND was updated by RENNtech this past February. RENNtech carbon fiber airbox. AMG 80mm (stock 74mm) throttle body and plenum. RENNtech 168mm (stock 152mm) crank pully. VRP shorty headers, ceramic coated. New RENNtech intercooler pump. Newt's resonator bypass pipes. Identical equipment installed on RENNtech prototype produces 589 hp. This car has never been measured on a dyno.

Suspension and Wheels/Tires: RENNtech V1 lowering module; the cars sits about an inch lower than stock with an understated aggressive curb appeal. The tires NEVER contact the fenders. The wheels are HRE 560C modular 3-piece 6061T aluminum, 19 inch front and rear, which currently retail for about $1,200 per wheel. The tires are Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 ultra high performance. The rear size is 275/30-19, the front 245/35-19. The rears are NEW (I have the TireRack receipt!) and the fronts have easily 85 percent of tread depth remaining.

Every factory campaign has been completed by an authorized MB dealer on this car. These are:
- SCN recoding
- Battery cover replacement
- Alternator voltage regulator check
- SBC bracket
- Power steering hose bracket
- Air relay
- Front axle bolt
- Fuel filter module

The SBC system remains under warranty by Mercedes Benz until September 6, 2013.

This E55 has very, very gentle driving manners that defy the beast under the skin. The car starts, runs and drives as well as a bone stock E55...until your right foot pushes down. You will not find a more attractive, compelling W211 E55 available.

Firing of M-B boss upheld

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

Ernst Lieb, the disgraced former CEO of American operations for Mercedes-Benz, will not be getting any more money from the Silver Arrow'd teat. His wrongful dismissal suit against MB's parent company, Daimler, was tossed out of a German appeals panel. This, followed the initial rejection by a lower court last year.
According to court documents acquired by Automotive News, Lieb was found to have "accepted payments of substantial value to which he - as he was aware - had no claim."
Lieb took over American operations from former CEO Paul Halata in September of 2006. Reports surfaced in October of 2011 that Lieb was dismissed from his posting at MB, with a variety of rumors swirling. Eventually, news broke that financial wrong doing was responsible for the German's firing.

Ecclestone wonders if F1's upcoming turbo V6s should get augmented sound [w/videos]

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

While every team on the Formula One grid is worried about making a good showing in this year's championship at the same time as they develop a brand-new car for next year's championship, Bernie Ecclestone and F1 circuit promoters have a different concern: how next year's cars will sound. The current cars use 2.4-liter, naturally-aspirated V8s that can reach 18,000 revolutions per minute and employ dual exhaust, next year's engine formula calls for 1.4-liter turbocharged V6s that are capped at 15,000 rpm and are constrained to a single exhaust outlet. Ecclestone and promoters like Ron Walker believe the new engines sound like lawnmowers and that the less thrilling audio will keep people from coming to races. If Walker's Australian Grand Prix really is shelling out almost $57 million to hold the race, every ticket counts. As a fix, according to a report in Autoweek, Ecclestone "suggests that the only way to guarantee [a good sound] may be to artificially adjust the tone of the V6s."
However, neither the manufacturers nor the governing body of F1, the FIA, think there will be a problem. Ecclestone fears that if the manufacturers "don't get it right" they'll simply leave the sport, but the only three carmakers and engine builders left next year, Renault (its 2014 "power unit" is pictured), Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari are so embedded that it would stretch belief to think they'd leave the table over an audio hiccup - if said hiccup even occurs. And frankly, these issues always precede changes to engine formulas, as they did when the formula switched from V10 to V8; fans, though, are probably less focused on the engines and more on the mandated standardization of the sport and the spec-series overtones that have come with it.
No one knows yet what next year's engines will sound like, but we've assembled a few videos below to help us all start guessing. The first is an engine check on an Eighties-era John Player Special Renault with a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, after that is Ayrton Senna qualifying in 1986 in the Lotus 98T that also had a 1.5-liter V6 turbo, then you'll find a short with a manufactured range of potential V6 engine notes, and then the sound of turbocharged V6 Indycars testing last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Any, or none of them, could be Formula One's future.

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."
